Globalization has been a process underway for hundreds, if not thousands, of years. From the Roman Empire, to caravans on the Spice Road, to the Transatlantic Slave Trade, the process of connecting the globe in an interdependent web has been underway for a long time. Today, it seems that this process has been quickly accelerated. Globalization is the process of world integration of ideas, cultures and economies. In the past five hundred years there were two major periods of globalization which have generated irreversible effects on the world. One period, began with the Age of Exploration in the late fifteenth century, and it spanned until the eighteen hundreds. The other period, the post WW II era, began in the middle of the twentieth century and continues today. Each of these eras marked a tremendous evolution in economic strength, religion, human rights, woman’s rights, agriculture and last but not least technology.
Some demographers believe that the demographic transition will happen to countries everywhere. With urbanization and modernization, they claim rates of natural increase will naturally fall. This is needed most, of course, in much of Asia, Africa, and Latin America where there is great poverty and rapid population growth. Most of the developed world has gone through the transition, and population in the wealthier countries is nearly stable. Detractors of this argument point out that those poorer countries today are very different from the wealthy ones during their early stages of economic growth. They also say the political and economic environment today also work to the disadvantage of the poor

Urbanization can be defined as a rapid shift in population of a group living in a specific area. This typically happens when the society decides that it is more advantageous to settle, rather than migrate.
