Celia Drinkwater has a doctorate in Physical Therapy and specializes in neurological physical therapy. Ms. Drinkwater has been working with Performance Rehabilitation since 2009; they offer general physical therapy and specialize in neurological physical therapy, orthopedic physical therapy, and pediatric physical therapy. Performance rehabilitation currently has three offices in the state of Wisconsin, one of which is located in the town of Madison, Wisconsin. The office located in Madison currently employs nine physical therapists, including Ms. Drinkwater. Although most of Ms. Drinkwater’s training came from graduate school, she also received on the job training by a former employee from performance rehabilitation. Because Ms. Drinkwater is the only neurological physical therapist at her current place of employment, there is a demand for her at her job; she is the earliest person there and the last to leave. Her patients are referrals or walk-ins and the majority of her patients are short term, which run about 7-10 sessions. One-third of her patients are long-term patients each of which she has built rapport with; she has no access to patient lists, but does have access to records of the patients she treats while treating such patient. Ms. Drinkwater currently has a restrictive covenant contract with Performance Rehabilitation which states, “In the event of the termination of my employment with Performance Rehabilitation’s Madison office, I will not practice physical
My first experience observing a physical therapist, commenced in the summer of 2014. At the time, I was given the opportunity to observe a physical therapist named Jennifer Moreland. Throughout my time observing her, I began to recognize she was not just a physical therapist with her patients. Many times, she took on the role of a consoler, cheerleader, friend and supporter for her patients. Reflecting back on this, I am able to see that the primary reason she has succeeded as a physical therapist; is due to her amiable, encouraging and empathetic nature. These character traits have allowed her to do more than heal patients' musculoskeletal problems. She has also been able to heal hearts, souls and minds by cheering, supporting, listening
The medical field is expanding ever so rapidly in today’s society. In the field of Physical Therapy one needs to have the understanding of how the human body works and the injuries one body could sustain. I have chosen a career to help others to battle back from life-changing injuries or surgeries. I will take the first step of joining the medical field by obtaining a physical therapist associates degree. I will become a Physical Therapist Assistant.
Life can change in a split second when an unanticipated injury or disease hinders someone’s normal daily life. Modern medicine, physicians and families can only do so much but physical therapy can help recoup the life many of us take for granted. It often isn’t until we lose something that we as humans realize what we had such as the value of our body’s ability to take us through each day. A physical therapist is the person who stays with a patient for the duration of the rehabilitation process. A physical therapist leads the patient through the process of regaining physical strength and helps the patient regain control of their future. Much like many careers that involve interaction with individuals, physical therapy reaches beyond
When she sees a patient for the first time she talks to them about the doctor’s report and asks specific questions about their injury or experiences leading up to the need for physical therapy. Megan explained how important it is to make the patient feel comfortable and keep a positive attitude towards the patient’s recovery. These consultations were the most interesting to sit in on because it allowed me to observe the therapist’s ability to take the patient’s information and create a diagnosis and treatment plan for the injury or pain described. Megan may have multiple patients at a time so she stressed the importance of keeping up with each patient and why the physical therapy techs are so helpful. Scheduling is another job of the therapists that is important in keeping the clinic running smoothly. There is also paperwork that has to be filled out for every patient after every visit about their
Furthermore, a multidisciplinary team meeting will be presented to identify the impact of different health care professionals such as a physiotherapist, an occupational therapist and a nurse have on a patient with complex need and how the patient receives the care needed due to the collaborative practice. In addition, a comparison between physiotherapy, occupational therapy and nursing practice will be outlined regarding professional regulation and both pre-registration and continuing
I have worked for the West Virginia Division of Rehabilitation Services (WVDRS) for over three years as a Rehabilitation Service Associate. During that time I have been given the opportunity to work with the clients that we serve on a regular basis. However, the practicum experience provided me with an opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of the rehabilitation process and what it means to work as a team with individuals to achieve goals. The practicum experience also gave me insight on the processes involved in providing individuals information and assistance in finding solutions to help overcome or work through challenges encountered on a daily basis.
Seiler says her favorite part of being a Physical Therapist is having a relationship with the patients she works with because she gets to see them normally for a longer period and having the satisfaction when you see that you helped someone in a positive way. Although, some patients can be aggravating when improvement is not seen. Often this is because patients fail to do their home program. On an average day she sees about seven to eight patients one every hour. She enjoys the pace that the clinic she is currently at because often other places have you see more patients in shorter amounts of time. Some places have more patients in secessions of 30 minutes with a Physical Therapy Assistant and will only see the Physical Therapist for short amount of time. Seiler believes with more time she is able to build a relationship and gain a better understanding of how to explain things to patients as well as what works well for them. It also allows the patient to trust the therapist and keeps them complying with doing the exercises. The other
I am learning about the significance of being committed to patient care and dedicating your life's work to the betterment of every patient. I possess a strong academic history as well as a willingness to commit my time to uplifting of my community. Even as a student who has had some hiccups academically, I am proving that I can overcome adversity and "keep my eyes on prize". Furthermore, I am devoted to being the future of physical therapy and displaying selflessness, dedication, compassion, distinction and authenticity. I have learned to sympathize and empathize with patients, however, at the same time stand firm in the therapeutic methods that need to be implemented for the patient's

On September 8th, 2015, I first began interning for Dr. Dawn Cox and her staff of experienced Physical Therapists at PRANA Functional Manual Therapy in Lancaster, PA as a Physical Therapy Aide. Intermittently, on the first day of my internship, I would ask the therapists “Why choose Physical Therapy as a profession?” One of the Physical Therapists conveyed that aside from the substantial benefits a job provides, it was the intangible materials that gave the profession a meaning. As a student exploring the field of Physical Therapy, I have infallibly witnessed professionalism at PRANA and other Physical Therapy facilities through the therapists’ altruism towards patients -without violating ethical practices as professionals; their apposite use of communication with each individual at the workplace; and their sense of accountability when things go unforeseen.
A current issue the physical therapists in the state of Georgia just confronted this year and successfully attained was gaining limited self-referral or direct access. Previously, physical therapists in the state of Georgia, under the old practice act were only able to conduct a physical therapy evaluation without a referral from a practitioner of the healing arts and provide services for the purpose of fitness, wellness, or prevention that was not related to an injury or disease (GA Physical Therapy Act, n.d.). Updating the Georgia Physical Therapy Act dealt with more than obtaining limited self-referral, it was to modernize the practice act to represent the contemporary practice of physical therapy with respect to what physical therapy means, term and title protection, and patient/client management expectations (Donnelly, 2015, February). This battle began in the beginning of January 2015, and final negotiations reached with the Georgia Orthopaedic Society (GOS) and support of the American Medical Association of
For my field study, I visited the alternative health practice, Rivers of Health, a place that is meant to assist one in reaching their wellness potential. Located in Roseburg Oegon, Rivers of Health primarily utilized a form of therapy known as manual therapy. However this is a manual therapy center that is unique from other similar organizations that focus on body manipulation. This is due to it specializing in a classification of manual therapy called Lowens System Dynamic Manual Interface, or as it is more commonly referred to as DMI. The owner and sole care provider of Rivers of Health is Peggy Thompson-Rhodes, who has had much experience in her field. Peggy has been a liscensed massage therapist for more that two decades, with her training being from the Oregon School of Massage. She is a relaxed and methodical individual who portrays a sense of confidence in her work.
Throughout the years, many processes have been created to form the rehabilitation process of criminal justice. Rehabilitation has many different process, but most, if not all have been proven successful in returning offenders to the community as changed individuals.
Rehabilitation technology services are utilized to assist clients who need technology to eliminate barriers to employment. The technology is all items that maintain, improve, or enhance the functional capabilities of clients with disability. These services can include mobility aide devices, vehicle modifications, prosthetics, hearing aids, and equipment for the visually impaired. These services are based on the needs of the client and vary. According to research, rehabilitation technology is a significant service for individuals who cope with multiple sclerosis, cerebral palsy, and cancer survivors (Chiu, Chan, Bishop, Cardoso, & O’Neil, 2013; Huang, et al., 2013; Strauser et al, 2010). These individuals and other clients utilize the technology to provide the necessary accommodations that they may
The internship that I acquired during the summer of 2010 at the Greenwood Sports and Industrial Rehabilitation Center (GSIRC), allowed me to gain an immeasurable amount of experience during my tenure at this facility. Within this period, the exposure to new concepts within the physical therapy industry allowed me to observe and work hands on with patients of all ages and disabilities that exposed me to various treatment plans and programs to restore client’s mobility. The essential Physical Education and Exercise Science (PEES) courses taken at Lander University were beneficial to my academic knowledgebase, which prepared me and developed me for the opportunity within the physical therapy discipline.
