Many people think censorship will benefit the society because it can remove the bad things from our society. However, there are some censorships that did not bring any benefit, but damage to people in the society. In “ Letter to the Editor of the Charleston Gazette” a teacher asked to defend for his teaching book; because the book involve with violence. Also, two novels that were written by Pat Conroy were censored because they involve violence. In “Stutterer Speaks Up in Class; His Professor Says Keep Quiet” a professor told a student with stutter not to speak in class; because she thinks the student with stutter was wasting other students’ time. Sometime it can be an attraction to people. In “ Letter to the Editor of the Charleston Gazette” Pat Conroy wrote “Becasue you banned my books, every kid in that country will read them, every single one of them”(516). Conroy knew that kids are rebellious. They don’t like to follow orders; they like to do the things they were told not to do. A banned book will draw attention from a kid because they are curious about why this book is banned; to fulfill their curiosity they will find a way to get access to this book to see what is this book about. In “Pornography, Obscenity, and the case for Censorship” Kristol wrote “ Pornography differs from erotic are in that its whole purpose is to treat human beings obscenely, to deprive human beings of their specifically human dimension” (507). Kristol believes that pornography should be censored because it harm people in the society. He did not consider that censorship on something will not elimate that thing from the society.
