the revolution - Today, 100% certified organic, non-GMO foods are not a luxury for hippies and hipsters, but a natural path of survival and longevity. Recent studies prove that foods directly affect health and wellness. Toxic food (junk food, sodas, excessive caffeine, processed foods, foods treated with harmful antibiotics) cause obesity, high blood pressure, cancer and a host of other diseases and disorders.
Eating and consuming the healthiest foods possible should be the primary goal of good nutrition and wellness. If you eat meat, poultry or fish choose meats and chickens that are grass-fed, free-range with no antibiotics or harmful toxins. Choose certified organic as often and readily as possible to ensure that the most nutrition is absorbed
GMO’s or Genetically Modified Food is one of the most controversial topics that have been studied and debated for over 40 years. Scientists on both sides of the spectrum claim that these modified foods are safe for consumption, but also some argue that these foods are toxic and very harmful to human life. GMO’s are genetically modified organisms that are created and added in a lab experiment where DNA are extracted from one gene and added to another plant or animal. This allows the genes to mix with the DNA to create a desired product. For example, bigger apples, larger oranges, taller animals, and plants that can survive the changing climate. GMOs are different from organic food and products because chemicals and DNA modification is not needed for these natural stuff.
Within recent years there has been an uprising movement to eat organically. Some choose to do this to because of GMO’s while others make this choice because of a want to eat healthier. Locally grown foods do have their pros and cons. While eating locally provides beneficial aspects to society, the locavore movement does not necessarily affect the cost, environmental, and health factors.
As Gliessman, an agricultural researcher, says in Agroecology, “conventional agriculture is built around two related goals: the maximization of production and the maximization of profit. In pursuit of these goals, a host of practices have been developed without regard for their unintended, long-term consequences” (3). The industrial food industry has created a process to produce as many crops as possible in the quickest amount of time to put onto the market. The several ways utilized to achieve these goals are those that are harmful to the consumer. Two main threats are genetic modification, and chemicals. These issues are a spark of concern in addressing the health of consumers. Food industries often try to tantalize their audience with the promise of untouched, pristine produce when in reality these foods are heavily tainted by pesticides or are genetically modifieds. “One will find this obliviousness represented in virgin purity in the advertisements of the food industry, in which food wears as much makeup as the actors. If one’s whole knowledge of food from these advertisements, one would not know that the various edibles were ever living creatures, or that they all come from the soil… “ (Berry 147). People are informed little about the pesticides that we often ingest from products like these and little do people know the negative effects of GMOs.
Native Americans are often portrayed as possessing deep spiritual insight and wisdom. This stereotype suggests that indigenous peoples have a unique understanding of spiritual matters, including a deep connection to their ancestors, the natural world, and the cosmos. Another stereotype is that they are commonly depicted as having a strong and profound bond with nature. This stereotype highlights the idea that Native Americans maintain a close and harmonious relationship with the natural world, viewing themselves as interconnected with all living beings and the environment. The stereotype of a profound connection to nature reflects an admiration for indigenous cultures' ecological consciousness and stewardship ethic, promoting a deeper appreciation
In order to establish eating the healthiest foods possible, any individual can shop for organic foods that have “organic” labels on them. Organically grown foods have an immense amount of pure nutrients and healthier ingredients than GMO food. This high-quality alternative accomodates a healthy and safe lifestyle. The ultimate gain of health is indulged by considering a wise decision such as consuming organic foods and products. Diverse organic produce generates health benefits that outweigh the price premiums associated with it. Due to countless usage of unadapted chemicals, crops are evidently damaged and captivated with extremely toxic pesticides and insecticides. Recently, GMO foods have severely
Over the year’s man and woman conflict have been a normal part of life. Where there are relationships there will be conflict. Researcher Anna Snyder says “A critical component of successful male-female relationships is the ability of the couples to handle conflict” (Snyder 10). Resolving conflict, or not can be vital for the fifty-fifty survival rate of marriages. In the two plays, Trifles by Susan Glaspell, and Death of a Salesman by Arthur Miller. Both actors have a great background of literature, Glaspell an American Pulitzer Prize-winner, playwright, novelist, and Arthur Miller who also was awarded the Pulitzer Prize for Drama. Withal plays can relate in ways to different gender conflicts, and the problems that takes place in everyday relationships. Men and women may face different demands of resolving these conflicts. Men tend to handle things in a more aggressive way, as to woman being the calm ones. Throughout these two plays they may differ.
The last few years American’s have been the center of attention when it comes to an example of unhealthy living. In 2013 obesity became recognized as a disease in order to help aid the fight for a healthy future. Fingers are being pointed at every company and government branch possible on who is to blame for the current crisis. One thing people are able to agree on is that the food we are eating is the main cause of the health crisis in America. At the heart of this debate is the discussion on genetically modified organism, or GMO foods.
GMOs (or “genetically modified organisms”) are living organisms whose genetic material has been artificially manipulated in a laboratory through genetic engineering, or GE. This relatively new science creates unstable combinations of plant, animal, bacteria and viral genes that do not occur in nature or through traditional crossbreeding methods.
Genetically modified crops are harmful to humans and the environment and shouldn't be used. Agriculture should proceed in harmony with nature and nature only. That is why some people have decided to buy organically grown food. From their experiences with organic food, they believe that the organic system can be economically practical. This system also provides a wide range of environmental and social benefits, and most importantly, it enables consumers to make a choice about the food they eat. According to Diana Brander, an American biology teacher, we should have the choice of the type of food we eat.
The taking in of GMOs is destructive because of the unexpected effects, resistance to antibiotics, and the deleteriousness of the pesticides. When ordering or buying food at a restaurant or store, it is important to remember the harm that GMOs cause. The harm that is caused is not worth it. Change the eating lifestyle for a healthier
Throughout the history of mankind there has always been war. Nations have always had disagreements with one another and the result is the death of many young soldiers. Although many men die in war, not as many men die if the war was fought to win and not only to stop the enemy. However, the wars that have not been fought to win, but only to stop a force, have had much greater a loss than those fought to win. In the Korean War the United States did not fight to win but just to subjugate the North Korean forces that were annihilating the landscape and its people. Although the Korean War was fought to protect the defenseless people, the casualties and other catastrophes that were brought upon the United States soldiers
This will lower all types of health complications like cancer, obesity, stroke, and heart disease. As a matter of fact, WebMD states, "About 300 of every 100,000 Americans develop cancer each year, which means the U.S. has the seventh highest cancer rate in the world" (Mann). This statistic shows that many people are affected by cancer every year in the United States. This fatal disease is mainly caused by food containing preservatives, GMO's, and chemicals which kill the nutritional value in food. Henceforth, organic food is grown naturally without the help of synthetic fertilizers and chemicals and can lower the risks of developing these type of
Organic, all natural, and genetically modified are phrases you find every day in your local grocery store. The most common misconception concerning GMO’s, is that they are harmful to humans. There are lots of benefits to GMO’s that most of the anti-GMO activists don’t know about because they don’t know what they really are. While the greatest feature for stores is to have their very own marketing gimmick, the gimmick being their products are non-genetically modified. There are lots of genetically modified organisms that humans have been consuming for many years without even realizing it.
In the past few years, society has been made more aware of genetically modified organisms (GMOs). Because of this, GMOs are being replaced in diets with more natural and organic options. GMOs have been researched and found to cause adverse effects on human health because of the gene splicing, or genetic alterations that are done to create them through genetic engineering. Before this issue became an issue, many people were eating processed and even healthy foods without understanding what chemicals and toxins they were actually putting into their bodies. GMOs are infused into food without awareness because one never really understands what all those unpronounceable words, label GMOs, really are. Due to recent research, it has been found that genetically modified organisms are harmful and can lead to increased risks of disease and cancer.
When speaking about the negative affects that GMOs have on ones health, I would submit my factual and narrative argumentations to our local campus newspaper, the diamondback. Not only is it local and relevant to me, but also the diamondback is apart of a great young community. We the University Of Maryland, and as a generation are in charge of the changes coming up in our future regarding ones health. What better outlet to express the importance and opportunity for change regarding GMO production than this one.
