Hello Dr. Ullom, majority of the long term care facilities are under staffed. There is usually one registered nurse in charge to manage a 240 bed facility, with LPN's and nursing assistance. I feel that these patients would benefit from having one RN to every six -eight patients with a nursing assistance. Not only would this benefit the patient but the nurse as well. Patient are placed in long term care facility with a certain problem, but ends up with additional condition such as UTI, MRSA, pressure ulcers, and etc. These issues are related to poor care they receive because of unstaffing. I'm not placing blame on the LPN or nursing assistance, but with a RN and low nurse to patient ratio, they will receive better care.

Communication between the volunteer and the program assistant at the Lions Park Senior Center was direct and to the point when requesting to volunteer at the center. Since the program assistant was away for an emergency, the volunteer deal only with the secretary Ms. Janie. Conversing with Ms. Janie was very pleasant, well oral instruction steps were given and rules were explained, even though, no instruction book was read (Janie Vargas, personal communication, September 1, 2017). The members of the center also communicate with the secretary and she makes them feel at ease. Transmission of information with the members at the gymnasium must be done in a way that the new members feel welcome and motivated to utilize the facilities, and with

Overall I felt my time at South Shore Elder Services as very informative and helped me gain a greater understanding of home health and geriatric health care. It also helped me see if home health is a setting that would interest me as on occupational therapist and how my interventions could help this population of clients in my future practice. Overall I think that South Shore Elder Services is a great organization and is doing great work for their clients.
In the middle of Southern Illinois, where the corn grows fast, and the grass even faster, there lies a town so small, the state actually classifies it as a village. Inside of this Midwestern microcosm is a specific building that has represented something greater than the structures around it. This establishment prides itself on its multifunctional purpose, and consistently excites any guest, regardless of age, who may pass through the worn, oaken doors. As many people enter, few, in the little village of just 3,000 residents, recognize the role it has facilitated from childhood to old age. When it comes to experience, no building in the entirety of the village gives the same
My experience in the Weigel Center/Senior center was superb, I enjoyed helping the senior citizens very much. I thought it was a great learning experience for the future if I wanted to to that again or help anyone with anything. Doing this gave me more skills for volunteering in the future. I also enjoyed the people there, they were very kind not what I expected I thought they would all be grumpy and want to eat there hearts out but I was wrong really wrong they were all kind and there were even a few that spoke Spanish just like me.
