American senior citizens will account for 20% of the nation’s total population by 2030 (Nelson, 2007). With the growing population of senior living, healthcare facilities are becoming more popular than ever. Brightview is an up in coming healthcare senior living facility that will be opening up 13 more facilities on the east coast. The activities department plays a crucial role in Brightview Senior Living. The department function and how its managed ties into the overall function of the facility. The various activities that are ran and performed are to get the elderly involved. By doing so, this allows them to carry out physical activity and challenge their body and minds. As you get older you lose some cognitive and physical development. Giving
I am grateful that I am a client in the Elderly Services Program of the Council on Aging. The resources that I receive are: case management, electronic medical monitoring, medical transportation, Meals-on-Wheels, and home care assistance. They have become an integral part of maintaining my lifestyle.
The patient has the right to voice grievances and suggest changes in service or staff without fear of restraint or discrimination.

With the hopes and dreams of eventually having my own Long-term care community, I hope that we make our LGBT nurses/CNA’s comfortable as well as the residents in the community. There are a few different ideas that I would like to implement into the community in order to make them feel more comfortable. First, I would like to make an awareness group to better educate others in what LGBT is and how to properly treat others. I will not only make it specific to the LGBT community in how to properly treat them but other ethnicities, diversity, and races as well. Something that needs to be worked on in our time is how to better treat each other and realize that people can have their own opinions, that of which, should not make such a large impact
Communication between the volunteer and the program assistant at the Lions Park Senior Center was direct and to the point when requesting to volunteer at the center. Since the program assistant was away for an emergency, the volunteer deal only with the secretary Ms. Janie. Conversing with Ms. Janie was very pleasant, well oral instruction steps were given and rules were explained, even though, no instruction book was read (Janie Vargas, personal communication, September 1, 2017). The members of the center also communicate with the secretary and she makes them feel at ease. Transmission of information with the members at the gymnasium must be done in a way that the new members feel welcome and motivated to utilize the facilities, and with
Aging is a natural part of life. However, many people struggle to stay active in their golden years. The attentive staff at National Church Residences is committed to the health and overall well-being of their clients and residents. Their senior living community in Chillicothe, OH, has provided safe, affordable, and comfortable housing to seniors for more than 50 years. There may come a time in your loved one's life when they are no longer able to perform all of the tasks they used to without assistance. Despite their need for support, your senior loved one may decide they want to remain at home and enjoy their independence and freedom. While nursing homes and assisted living facilities serve a certain segment of the population quite well, others enjoy the quality of life that comes from living in their own home. For families that are able to provide the necessary care, arrangements can be made to make this work. Others, however, are left wondering how their senior loved one is going to receive the service and support they require to remain safe. Thankfully,
Though eating well may be vital for everyone, it is especially important as you grow older. As you age, your daily food choices can mean the difference in your health as well as how you look and feel. One of the benefits of senior home care services in Dallas is the assurance that your loved one has a balanced mix of foods every day.
One strength about the Martin County Senior Center is that it works with the aging/mature adults in Martin County, North Carolina. It is a state approved program which offers organized and unplanned events for education, companionship, exercise, health education and knowledge, hobbies, and group meetings. Another strength about the senior center, is that there are several satellite offices throughout the county to provide these services to outlying communities located outside of Williamston, North Carolina. One more strength about the senior center is most the volunteers are aging/senior adults with ties to people located in the communities throughout the county.
The reading that stands out the most to me personally for Week 8 is ‘Dementia: stigma, language, and dementia-friendly’, because I have members in my family who suffer from severe dementia. Moreover, it relates to the issues that I discussed in my AE3 essay. Hence, I think it will be really insightful in terms of broadening the knowledge I attained whilst writing my essay. It may also inform me of ways in which some of the issues raised in my essay may be combatted, specifically the stigma associated with dementia for sufferers and their families/ caregivers, as it explores the concept of a dementia-friendly community; a resolution mentioned in many of the readings I came across during my essay research, but did not explore with depth. In addition
The Nodaway County Senior Center is undergoing changes after their state and federal funding was cut 100 percent.
One in six Canadians have a chronic disease, with these chronic diseases being especially prevalent in the elderly population, individuals 55 years of age or older. Elderly populations have four times the rate of chronic disease compared to the overall population (Government of Canada, 2017). In fact, population aging was stated as one of the three most prominent elemental determinants of chronic disease development, along with globalization and urbanization, by the World Health Organization (WHO) in 2005. One major form of chronic disease is osteoporosis, with related expenditures totaling over $2.3 billion per year (Tarride et al., 2012), contributing to the ever-increasing health care costs in Canada. However, many chronic diseases such
In the middle of Southern Illinois, where the corn grows fast, and the grass even faster, there lies a town so small, the state actually classifies it as a village. Inside of this Midwestern microcosm is a specific building that has represented something greater than the structures around it. This establishment prides itself on its multifunctional purpose, and consistently excites any guest, regardless of age, who may pass through the worn, oaken doors. As many people enter, few, in the little village of just 3,000 residents, recognize the role it has facilitated from childhood to old age. When it comes to experience, no building in the entirety of the village gives the same
Simply treating mental illnesses in the geriatric community is no longer sufficient. The challenge of caring for the emotional, financial, and educational needs of families and clients is important to consider because this population is expanding every minute. Nurses, including registered nurses and student nurses, lack the knowledge to care for these individuals. In fact, most nursing students do not know how to effectively communicate with someone who has dementia. This knowledge deficit negatively effects the delivery of care for older individuals by limiting their power of knowledge over their current situation.
