‘Educating Rita’ is a play written by the British author Willy
Russell. It is set in Liverpool around the 1980’s. It explores the themes of education, poverty and working class life. The play is based on Rita’s enthusiasm and determination to be educated. Rita undergoes her course at the Open University. Here she meets her tutor Frank and it is here their

Then suddenly he remembers the author and pulls out a book to reveal a bottle of whisky. He pours himself a drink. The drink is interrupted by a call form his partner Julia. When he is speaking to her he uses negative and sarcastic language. An example of this is when he says ‘‘I don’t need determination to get me into a pub’’. This suggests to us he would rather go to the pub than go home or speak to
Julia. The audience are led to believe that Frank is miserable, rude and argumentative
We are first introduced to Rita when she knocks on Frank’s door. This gives Frank an excuse to end his phone call with Julia. Rita bursts through the door clumsily blaming this on the door handle. Rita sumps her bag. She seems to be a very inquisitive person because she starts inspecting the bookcase and notices the nude picture on Frank’s wall.
She moves around the room a lot; this indicates that she is also nervous. The audience is led to believe that there are two contrasting characters in the same room. We have Frank the very scholastic, well-mannered, prim and proper person and we have Rita who is working class, boisterous and loud.
Rita talks in a different way to Frank. Frank uses more structured sentences with proper known English words, whereas Rita uses colloquialism. An example of this is on page 15 where Rita says to
Frank ‘‘D’ y’ get a lot of students like me?’’ Rita uses this language because she

The Holocaust was one of the most tragic event in history when about six million Jews lost their lives to the Nazi. It was a very tragic and evil thing that the Nazi’s did. However, a Jewish girl, Anne Frank, said this: “In spite of everything, I still believe people are really good at heart.” Through everything Anne and her family went through, she always saw the good in things. After reading the play about her diary, I would have to agree with Anne’s quote. One of the main reasons I am agreeing with Anne is the kind and selfless thing that she did for her family and the people in the Annex on Hanukkah. However, I can see why you might disagree with Anne and myself by Mr. Van Daan and his selfish and unkind actions.

Educating Rita by Willy Russell explores the value of education, but also the wider education that takes place and how to use that education to your greatest benefit; not only during the school education but also the looking at the surrounding world. She therefore decides to do an Open University course in English literature. This she believes will greatly increase the horizons of her life and remove some of the limitations that she feels are imposed upon her. She wants to learn everything but soon discovers that even education has its limits. Frank, her tutor and lecturer,
Engaging students in the classroom can be a difficult task. Understanding the process of how students learn can help a teacher adapt the lesson to meet the needs of all students. I will encounter students that are not intrinsically motivated so I will need to find different ways to motivate each and every student. Understanding how my students learn can provide me with insights as to how to help each student learn which will minimize classroom management problems.

During the two gulling scenes, namely Act 2 Scene 3 and Act 3 Scene 1,
Anne’s accomplishments in the movement are very indirect. Throughout the entire story Anne shows us a great deal of personal growth. Anne overcame some very tough challenges in the book Coming of Age in Mississippi leading her to become a very strong and independent activist. Although Anne’s efforts did not greatly impact the movement directly, they did have a great impact on her personal growth. Anne dedicated her life after college to being an activist, this helped her grow in many different ways. This essay will talk about how Anne’s efforts affected both the movement and Anne personally.

Educating Rita tells a story of a 26-year-old married hairdresser, Rita, who decided to get education by taking a course in English literature from the Open University. Through the development of the relationship between Rita and her alcoholic and cynical tutor, Frank, this story brings up many concepts in adult development and education. After watching the movie, I have a further understanding of the concepts of changes, motivation to learn, freedom, and stability.
