The activity we received was a case study, I was expecting it to not be that descriptive. However, it helped me to understand how to apply the information from chapter nine to a client's suicide story. I'm looking forward to more case studies, this one was a little time consuming, because I was not exactly confident with how to ask the questions. The chapter nine lecture made me feel more confident when it came to knowing what to ask a client who is suicidal. I feel that this improved my weakness when dealing with clients who have these thoughts. It is a sensitive topic for many people to discuss that is why I have never received sufficient information. I did not know that the percentage of people who have thoughts of hurting themselves was that high. The lecture made me exposed to a topic I did not know about it made me feel aware that these feelings are not uncommon. If I ever have a friend who has these ideas it will help me be supportive or point them in the right direction if they need help.

The students in our class were seen as normal and did not have judgment difficulties so writing the report was not easy. It would have been better if we could make the mental status anonymous, because then we could get creative with the report and actually have a real situation. I noticed the way we wrote the mental status exam was concise not what I was used to writing. I was not aware that doctors were not interested in behaviors they only wanted a simple explanation so they can diagnose their
On October 5, 2016, Fowlerville High School freshman, Brendan Kangas, committed suicide. His whole school and community was struck with grief, previously unaware of Brendan’s battle with depression. The next day school was held on schedule, and it was a very unproductive day. According to the faculty, kids were crying in classrooms, and uninstructed teachers did not know how to handle the situation (Brent). Many Fowlerville students have struggled academically, unable to cope with the news of Brendan’s death. Fowlerville was not prepared to handle such a crisis and administrators were unaware of the effect Brendan’s suicide would have on the school. Since then, several other students in Brendan’s community have attempted to take their lives as well (Brent). Suicide has not only a problem in

Researchers conduct hypotheses that suicide could be contagious. Researchers had a total of 22,064 individuals ages 12 to 17. When conducting the study they met on cycles to monitor the exposure to suicide. All groups which were separated into age had an outcome of 95% of exposure to suicide. Researchers also questioned how often certain groups were or had feelings of depression or suicidal thoughts from stressful events during the cycles. In further research, 24.1% from the ages 16 and 17 responded that someone from school has committed suicide and which 20.1%
Over the days Komaeda spent bedridden and recovering from this Hinata found himself more and more at Komaeda's bedside. What had started as a series of strictly professional check-ups had evolved into a personal, close relationship. Despite Komaeda’s belief that Hinata had much more important manners to take of, but Hinata’s persistence presence couldn't be shaken by all the incomplete reports in the world.
Twelve students, one teacher, two murderers dead, and twenty-one injured in Columbine High School on April 20, 1999. The perpetrators Dylan Klebold and Eric Harris, were both intelligent, but had issues getting along with other students at Columbine high school. However seemingly normal, both were deeply disturbed, hating everyone but a handful of people, in journals found Klebold had been contemplating suicide since 1997, and both have been thinking about a massacre in April of 1998, a full year before it happened. The both of them had been arrested for breaking into a van on January 30, 1998, they had convinced people that they felt guilty for the break in, but behind the scene planned a large scale massacre. The plan of the massacre was
Thesis: While Suicide is a permanent solution to a temporary problem, I believe That Suicide is wrong.
Mr. Morris is a 36 year old male who presented to the ED with Suicidal ideation without a plan. Before the assessment QP received a call from the patient's mother who informed QP her primary concern with her son is his substance abuse and recent thought of self harm. She reports he has expressed suicidal ideation the past few weeks since he has returned to her home. At the time of the assessment Mr. Morris denies suicidal ideation, history of attempts, homicidal ideation, and symptoms of psychosis. He does reports a history of PTSD from seeing his uncle get killed in 1999, however no mental health hospitalizations. Mr. Morris states, "No, Not really thinking about harming myself, just situational stuff." He continues to state, "I just don't see the point of living sometimes, with all the stuff been going with me these past few months, but I have 2 daughter to live for and the people who do care about me." He reports consuming alcohol most of the day and feelings of depression for the past 3 weeks. His
In this chapter, Kanal (2011) focuses on Suicide, Homicide, and Psychotic Crises. It appears the overall theme of this chapter is the examination of extremes associated with physiological or crisis issues in a person’s life. The chapter begins with a discussion on suicide. The author emphasizes that in many instances the act of killing one self is driven by a sense of isolation. Kanal (2011) examples veterans, returning from Vietnam and after the prolonged disconnect from this society, had extreme issues of re-assimilation. Sadly, many who commit suicide may feel isolated but in reality often have family and do not realize the ramifications of their actions, especially if they are successful. In examining the symptoms associated with suicide, the author claims that in many instances,
The question that was aroused by everyone all over the world was, did the parents of Daniel James do the right thing in assisting him to die? First, a utilitarian’s thoughts are to maximize the happiness or leaser or preference of the individual. Part of the problem with utilitarian ethics is that they cannot be sure of the consequences. Also, they might argue that Daniel’s parents did the right thing in assisting him to die because it was out of the happiness of Daniel. No could predict Daniel’s future and Daniel could have been suffering from not only pain but he could have suffered deep depression problems, which might have lifted as his conditions improved but in the end that can not be proven. Not even from a utilitarian standpoint can
It's been over two weeks and Evan is still not sure what he's gotten himself into and the only one to blame is himself and his wired therapy letters. So now where is he? Oh yeah, pretending to be Connor Murphy's best friend because his parents thought he wrote a suicide note to Evan. And of course, he just went with it. Told the Murphy's all about his great friendship with their son who was surely going to kill him once he woke up. Evan would love it if the ground could just open up and swallow him whole. His phone ringing interrupts his daydream about no longer existing. Evan pulls his phone out of his pocket and blanches when he sees it's Mrs. Murphy.

Three people in my life have completed suicide; my uncle, my mom’s late fiance, and my step brother on my dad’s side, within four years of each other. I’ve witnessed each parental figure in my life become compromised by grief and the inevitable pain accompanying it, and I’ve seen the way depression can plague someone so deeply, even without the ending of suicide. The prevalence and growing numbers of deaths by suicide calls for a revised manner of education on all mental illnesses and the preventative measures one can take to reduce risk. Initially, when I heard of the Suicide Prevention Week Keynote event with Jamie Tworkowski (founder of ‘To Write Love On Her Arms’) I was thrilled. Hosting such an event on a college campus, presenting to a population greatly affected by mental illness, is demonstrative of the steps that should be taken toward raising awareness. Any opportunity for a comprehensive view on mental health and its significance is one to be taken advantage of. However, as the night proceeded, I did take note of several things that would improve the layout of any future events, as well as further deepen an individual’s comprehension of mental illness.
Someone, somewhere, commits suicide every 18 minutes. You might never be able to tell who it will be, it could be the person sitting right next . Statistics reveal that approximately three million youths, between 12-18, have either thought about or attempted suicide in the past year. More than 1/3, actually succeeded.
Suicide is currently the 10th leading cause of death in the United States (Suicide and Self-Inflicted Injury, 2017). On average, 121 Americans complete suicide each day (CDC Fatal Injuries Report 2015, 2015). The American people are living longer with advances to medical care and technology, yet suicide rates continue to rise. According to the CDC, suicide rates have increased by 24% from the year 1999 to 2014 (Curtain, Warner & Hedegaard, 2016). Consequently, the suicide epidemic continues to grow with no clear path to prevention. This literature review was conducted using the Robert Morris University Library online databases. Databases accessed include PubMed…………., from the years 2000 to 2017. Overall, most the articles obtained are
