Do you think about other people's opinions versies yours ? "Before I can live with other folks, I've got to live with myself. The one thing that doesn't abide by majority rule is a person's conscience" (Lee). These qoute is a very good way to think about your opinion. In the book “To kill a Mockingbird” Atticus Finch has to make a decision to protect a negro in court. These was a hard decision for him because everyone in his town started to attack him and his kids with words. So he had to make a decision to not protect the man and live with others respecting him or he had to live with going with what he thought was right. These affected him throughout the whole book and was the main plot of the book. So these is saying you can live with yourself
In the novel To Kill A Mockingbird, Harper Lee presents Atticus Finch as a principled lawyer, committed but single father to Scout and Jem, and a law-abiding citizen. Atticus is a respectable gentleman in society and a role model for his children. Throughout the book we see evidence of his honorable intentions, though he doesn’t seem to reap the rewards. He is morally upstanding, even-keeled, and daring. Because of these things, Atticus is a man who deserves great respect and admiration.
Atticus Finch, the 50-year-old father of Scout and Jem Finch, “was Maycomb County born and bred” and is related by blood or marriage to nearly every family in town. In comparison to the fathers of the other children at Scout and Jem’s school, Atticus is much older and repeatedly tells Jem that he is much too old to play football with him. He is a passionate, hardworking and unbiased defense lawyer; consequently, the town views him and his family as wealthy and educated people. It is seen as bizarre that he works in an office since the fathers of other children in the town have less refined careers. Scout describes that “he wore glasses…was nearly blind in his left eye” and also that he has “graying black hair and square face” and gradually the book paints a picture of Atticus. He is quite tall, wears a three-piece
Some have more courage than others do. In the book To Kill a Mocking Bird by Harper Lee, Atticus, a father of two and lawyer, stands up for a colored man in a court of law. At first, the readers just see him as a studious, quiet father, who has unique parenting strategies, but as the book progresses, Atticus's character grows. His courage, honesty, boldness, and scruples shape his life. In the trial with Tom Robinson, this shows especially. His determination to create the best case he can even though the odds are stacked against him, show the perseverance and strength of mind he has. Throughout To Kill a Mocking Bird Atticus's character grows as a genuine, brave, godly, man.
To really understand someone's point of view, you have to walk in their shoes. People cast blame without knowing the whole truth. Sometimes the truth is that the person blamed is as innocent as a Mockingbird. In To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee, Atticus Finch was used to teaching us good behaviors such as being a committed and loving father, treating everyone fairly and equally, and standing behind his beliefs.
To Kill a Mockingbird I believe that Atticus Finch is a very empathetic character. Finch shows many ways in which he empathizes with others around him. This display of empathy is very prominent in his work and in his everyday conversations with his children. This impacts the novel because he wouldn’t have ever taken the case of Tom Robinson, proclaimed so many of his wise quotes or even handled Bob Ewell with such grace. Atticus has become the face of empathy in this book and without it the book wouldn’t exist the same way we know it.
Firstly in the novel To KILL a MOCKINGBIRD Atticus Finch is a great example of someone who is a good influence on Jem and Scout. Atticus is a kind, caring and loving father who wants to pass on his knowledge to his children. Atticus is a excellent influence on Jem and teaches him many life lessons that will help Jem in the future. For example Atticus taught Jem a lesson that he will carry with him for the rest of his life, the day he wrecked Mrs.Dubose’s flowers. Jem had to read to Mrs.Dubose everyday after school because he lost his temper and squashed her flowers. Mrs. Dubose ended up passing away but wanted to overcome an addiction before that day came. Atticus explains to Jem how that takes courage by saying ‘’ Son, I told you that if you
According to Scout, Atticus knew what he was doing to defend Tom Robinson, and it’s quite obvious from three main situations. The first is when he proved that Tom Robinson couldn’t give Mayella Ewell those injuries. At the beginning, when Atticus was questioning Heck Tate, the witness said that Mayella Ewell’s right side of her face was beat up. However, the fact that Heck Tate had mistaken the side because of his point of view was also very important. That way, when Robert Ewell was asked to write, it showed that he was left handed. As Scout said, it was obvious that ‘If her right eye was blacked and she was beaten mostly on the right side of the face, it would tend to show that a left-handed person did it.’ (Lee, 178) Moreover,
As we were reading to kill a mockingbird I realized that Atticus Finch Is a really great father and lawyer. What really caught my eye in the book was when they accused Tom Robinson of allegedly raping Mayella Ewell. The fact that Tom Robinson only has one good arm and is left handed when Mayella Ewell had punch marks on her along with her neck being choked, all the evidence that Atticus presented showed that Tom Robinson was innocent. And then Tom Robinson ends up being guilty and what happened to him at the kind of end wasn't right and all Atticus wanted was justice and what end up happening to Tom Robinson was very unfair, just because of his skin color. If I was in Atticus position I would be disappointed because you would think people would see all the injustice happening at this time. And would see that what was happening ruined his life and they wouldn't like if that happen to them.
children very differently from one another. The children reflect who their parents are and how
“Atticus says that courage is ‘when you know you’re licked before you begin anyway and you see it through no matter what.’” In the novel To kill a Mockingbird, Atticus Finch,a lawyer, lives in the city of Maycomb. Atticus is a father of two to Jem and Scout Finch. Atticus is an only parent and takes care of his kids on his own. In the novel Atticus has to be very brave and stand up for what is right and what he believes in. In To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee courage is shown through the character Atticus through his behavior and actions.
Throughout a person’s life, they are given lessons that make them into the person they are. To Kill a Mockingbird, the coming-of-age novel by Harper Lee, shows the reader how the lessons a person learns shapes them and ether changes them for the better or for the worse. An example of somebody who evolves throughout the novel is Scout Finch. In the beginning of the novel the reader sees her as a young innocent girl with not much experience in the world, but as the novel comes to an end the reader sees as she turns into a young lady who is shaped by her experiences and the lessons her father and other elders teach. In the novel To Kill a Mockingbird, Scout learns how to stand in others shoes to get along better with them, that it is a sin to
“If you stand for nothing, you’ll fall for anything.” If you never stand up for what you believe in you will end up falling in line with the rest. Atticus Finch, a lawyer and well respected citizen of Maycomb County takes a courageous stand when he defends an innocent black man in a very racist and narrow-minded town. Atticus puts himself and his family in danger in order to prove Tom’s innocence. Undoubtedly Atticus is just when he takes on the challenge to defend Tom.
Atticus has many great attributes but sometimes he can be over confident and he is also very ignorant, making him not necessarily always right and making him assume things rather than thinking about what is actually right. How he assumed and underestimated Bob Ewell’s vicious actions is an example of his ignorance. Atticus is a very confident person but his confidence can lead to him not seeing different situations properly because he thinks he knows what is going to happen or in this case he thinks he knows Bob Ewell very well. “I know how that kind are about paying off grudges, but I don’t understand why he should harbor one—he had his way in court, didn’t he?”
Atticus Finch is a man of Fairness, He believes all people are equal and nobody should be treated differently.. Atticus is also an only father of Jem and Jean Louise also called Scout Finch. In To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee the Finch’s are living in a racist town and is also a small town called Maycomb County located in Alabama. Jem and Scout have a neighbor across the street named Arthur Radley but called Boo Radley. Boo never comes out of his house and for all the time Jem and Scout have been living in Maycomb they never seen him. Later in the year Atticus is defending an African American who is on trial for Rape. Mr.Ewell and citizen of the town is a poor man that gets government checks and spends them on Alcohol is accusing Tom Robinson for raping Miss.Mayella Violet Ewell. It does make sense for Atticus to defend Tom Robinson because Atticus is a fair man he believes everyone should be treated equally, and also a man of Integrity.
In “To Kill a Mockingbird” there are many teachers that teach Jem and Scout that give them life lessons to help them understand life better. One of the teachers Jem and Scout have is Atticus. Atticus is the most important teacher to Jem and Scout because he teaches the most important lessons out of all of their teachers and he has the most wisdom. One example of Atticus teaching the kids a lesson is when he said , “If you can learn a simple trick, Scout you’ll get along a lot better with all kinds of folks. You never really understand a person until you consider things from his point of view”(lee 39). This quote means that you cannot judge a person unless you know what they are going through, and also show respect
