In the play a Raisin in the Sun, Walter Lee Younger is an African American man who portrays the role of a father, son, and husband. He has a dream to invest the incoming inherence into something that may help his family in the future. Once this idea comes to him it takes over his mind, and he cannot stop thinking about it. It acts as though its a drug, he addicted to talking about it. Also, when it is brought up in a conversation and someone disagrees he become very defensive. In addition, he is very proud of this idea, and is hoping others will agree with him. In conclusion, when the money comes to plays, Walter’s attitude changes, he wants something from the money, and the money impacts his family. This is clearly showing that not only Walter sees that he needs something, Ruth also sees it. Weather she is just being a supportive wife to Walter, she still sees that he is need of something to remind him that not all dreams do not work out. Adding to that, even though she might disagree with Walter on this she can tell that Walter is going to be broken if he cannot use the money for it. In conclusion, Walter needs this money to remind him that life is not always bad and some dreams do come true. Lastly, the inheritance that has not yet come has already impacted the family. There has been many different ideas of how to spend the money which has caused numerous problems. Beneatha wants Mama to use it. Which causes problems between Walter and her. Mama wants to save some of it for Beneatha's school. Which once again causes problems for Walter because alter wants it for the liquor store. Ruth is caught between being a good wife, and doing the correct thing. Which is letting Mama decide herself. Obviously, the family is having a hard time coming to a mutual agreement about the money. The money has also has made a huge impact in the family by taking over the family conversations. Adding to that, when its brought up in conversations it is not being talked about in the correct way.
