For my observation hours, of infants and toddlers, I observed at Milestones Childcare and Learning Center in Norfolk, Nebraska. This daycare takes children 18m to 12 years. I observed over the course of five days, two hours each day. Monday March 6, was my first day at Milestones and I observed from 9:30am-11am, and then again at 5-5:30pm. These were the same hours that I did on Wednesday, March 8. March 7, March 9, and March 10, I observed from 10-11am and then again at 5-6pm. After the week, I had a total of 10 hours. The entire week I was in the toddler room, with children 18-3. Most of the children were younger, around 18m to 2 years, because Milestones also has a 3 year old room, and many of those who were potty trained go to the 3 year old room as well. I felt like after being in the toddler room, I learned multiple things, like how to watch multiple children or how to deal with temper tantrums at a young age. I also felt like Milestones did a good job teaching young children and helping their development, while also providing safety for them, which is what childcares are for. The first aspect of development that I saw at Milestones was social and emotional. This is an area that child care providers should foster the most. They should make children feel safe and secure, but also have room to explore and gain confidence. Social and emotional skills are needed by everyone …show more content…
Most of the children could talk and seemed to understand. The teachers responded to children and talked to them like adults, which is important. There were two children who did not speak and the teachers worked on sign language with them. This is one thing that I thought stood out and was important. I could see the children were frustrated because they could not speak and many times when they got upset they would spit or bite. The teachers worked with them and made sure they learn to use their
When I went to go observe the preschool lab I saw right around thirteen kids and two teachers that were in the room with them at that time. The reason why I believe it is important to have more kids than teachers is that it allows the kids to interact with each other which will allow them to develop better socially with kids their age. Having a few teachers also allows them to have an authority figurehead that they answer to and listen to. It is important to only have a few though because I feel like if you had a ton of different teachers it would confuse the kids who to listen to because there are multiple authority figures who may be saying different things.
The school I went to visit was Public School 69. It was my little brothers elementary school. The reason I chose the school, was because I remember seeing him happy every time he came home from kindergarten. Every day he would come home and have a different project he did in class to show off. The outside of the school looked like a regular public school, but inside Miss Suzy’s* (not her real name) classroom was bright, warm, and inviting. My visitation was in the morning, right when the children began school at 8:00am. When I walked inside, the class room was baby blue with all kinds of art projects on the walls. Miss Suzy welcomed me very kindly, and discussed with me, her srtudents and what they have been learning. You can not help but
For my observation assignment I chose Sam, a four-year-old boy who stays in my class for the aftercare program. I have worked with Sam previously in the camp last summer and became aware of his challenging behavior.
In preschool children get lots of opportunities to play and interact with one another, and who they play with and where they like to play matters. A study was done to observe preschoolers in their social contexts such as where they like to play who they like to play with and playgroup size. The purpose for the study was to observe whether behavior in the fall was related to spring bullying and to see if bullying is different for boys and girls. Participants were preschool children gathered from eighteen head start classrooms and they were observed in three groups over three continous years. The study had a total of 255 children with 131 boys and 124 girls. “Children were observed in their classrooms and on their outdoor playgrounds. Trained observers coded childrens social and interpersonal behaviors over the fall semester of preschool.” (Andrews, Hanish, Fabes and Martin, 2014) Children were observed throughout the school day and obserevers noted if children played one on one or in groups and the gender of childrens peers was noted (Same gender, other gender, and mixed gender play groups) Lastly childrens location was noted. Observers also noted any peer bullying that was observed. The results of the study were that children spent more time playing one on one then in groups for both boys and girls.
From what I have experienced in my community of Warren County, the breakfast and lunch provided by the schools are inadequate. These meals are often undersized, ill-prepared, or are non-existent. Though all Warren County school students do receive free lunch, people still choose to pay for the prepackaged goods sold by the school to substitute the lunch offered. In the mornings, the breakfasts that I have seen have been continuously dismal. They are often small, sugary items such as Pop Tarts or cereal. In preparation for an important test, we are always told by the school that it is of the utmost importance that we eat a filling, healthy breakfast, yet they don’t provide one. Hunger or a sugar rush makes it harder for students to focus during
In the time I have observed this person, I noticed that he was always wearing a sweater every single time I’ve seen him. He would always have his headphones on one in his left ear and the other hanging in his right ear. Every time in the morning he would say good morning to the whole class and he would sound like if he was tired. A few times he didn’t want to do his work because he was sleep deprived and slept during class. However towards the end of my observations, I noticed that he didn’t care about his future and learning environment.
There is a boy named Cory, he is is a 17 year old senior. He lives in Los Angeles and goes to Bass lake High School. Cory plays football for varsity team. He lives with his mother only because his dad died when he was 4 years old. He died from a car crash . His goal is to go to the college of UCLA but even though he is really good at football, he is not that good in school and his grades are not that bad but at the same time his grades are not that good. Once at one of his games one of the football coaches for UCLA went to his game, he was really interested in him but when he saw his grades, his interest went down. So now every time there is a test, he studies for hours . Even though he is excepted to some colleges like Arizona State
The evaluation of coughing and sneezing technique will use return demonstration to make sure children understand it. The teacher will use direct observation of the behavior to evaluate the children’s’ understanding of the skill (Miller & Stoeckel, 2016, p. 321). Direct observation is done by using the senses to observe the children (Miller & Stoeckel, 2016, p. 321). Then a rubric will be used to record the observation and how well the children did. Rubrics are often used to determine how the children preformed (Miller & Stoeckel, 2016, p. 324). Then, to evaluate cold and flu symptoms the game will address one and the teacher will make notes on how well
The second part of their grant consisted of collaborating with the Head Start program and Old National Trail Education Center children. These children were involved in the planting, harvesting and eating of the food they grew in a herb and vegetable garden planted onsite at the career center. They also used the resources of a local Master Gardening club to help instruct on wise planting choices, soil, water and weeding. They planted eggplant, zucchini, peppers, tomatoes, cucumbers, basil, cilantro and mint. They took as many of the foods they could from the garden and purchased the rest. Next, they used the vegetables and fruits to make bug creations. The Culinary Arts students began by asking the Head Start and Old National Trail children
As part of the evaluation, each parent were observed in natural and familial environment the children. Home visits were conducted in the residence, with each parent and the children. During these observations the following safety factors were noted in each parent’s residence. The mother’s residence had electrical outlets which were unplugged, chemicals under sinks without locks, door to terrace left unlocked. In the father’s residence there were plumbing area where they are exposed, plumbing with hot water traversing the pipes, electrical outlets unplugged, and chemicals under the sink were unsecure. In addition, there were outlets for both data wiring and electricity which did not have cover plates on them. In the back of the father’s home
The six weeks observations and discussions helped me to observe and evaluate the children’s interaction and the environment. I have never taken time to analyses things in detail. I learned that reflective practice process is to stop and think about my values, belief and practice, and aware of my decisions and reactions. It is more important to refocus my thinking and help generate new knowledge and ideas. When it needed, it better to write down my reflections and share with others. Descriptive interview is a great ways to work with children who have challenge behaviors. I have learned to work in a team and would modify my behaviors and attitudes to meet the needs of each family. It is important of reflecting back on what happened in the day so that I could think about the next steps I would take to improve how I saw and handled a particular
For my Observation I visited my daughter’s school at Cuesta Children’s Center on the Cuesta campus. Yes, my daughter has been attending here for about a year, but I wanted to insure myself that I have chosen the best qualified school for my daughter. When I arrived at the classroom I was so impressed with all the different activities to engage the toddlers. With a inviting environment, physical, emotional/social, age appropriate toys, and the best risk taking play area outside/inside.
On November 1, 2017, Reese, a female five-year-old child was observed in room CL 1309 for 40 minutes, starting at 9:00 am. She is the second child, with an older sister and younger brother. This observation consisted of questions asked by the professor and the answers provided by the child, in the form of the specific questions asked by the professor, or by demonstrations done by Reese. These questions went over the topics of the gross and fine motor skills, play, the preoperational thought, language development, attention, and self-understanding.
At 1:00 P.M. On November 8, 2017, I came in to the child study to do my observation. I found the experience very interesting and in a way, which I did not expect, kind of fun. The interaction between the kids, and observing their personalities between each other taught me a lot about the kids. To my surprise, I never saw any negative reactions or fights between the kids during my time spent there. At my daycare in my kid days, there were kids constantly having bad attitudes and fighting over toys.
For the final observation, I observed in the toddler classroom in the center. These are the older toddlers ranging from ages 2-2.9. There are 9 children in the classroom and 2 teachers. The kids come from many different kinds of households. Many live with grandparents and some in shelters with parents. They are all mixed race. There are some African American, Latino, and white. The majority of the classroom is on the lower end of the socioeconomic ladder. Most of the kids have vouchers from the government. There are no diagnosed special needs in the classroom currently. There are some kids with speech delays that are getting a little extra help. The classroom is a good size and is broken into sections. Everything is at the kids eye level and there are so many different things that they can chose to do in their classroom. Overall, I really enjoyed this classroom.
