For my Observation I visited my daughter’s school at Cuesta Children’s Center on the Cuesta campus. Yes, my daughter has been attending here for about a year, but I wanted to insure myself that I have chosen the best qualified school for my daughter. When I arrived at the classroom I was so impressed with all the different activities to engage the toddlers. With a inviting environment, physical, emotional/social, age appropriate toys, and the best risk taking play area outside/inside. Of course the first observation I questioned was is this a safe environment. I observed clean disinfected tables, light switches/sockets covered, paint that were non-toxic out of reach or locked away, cleaning supplies out of reach, floors swept, and vacuumed. The child ratio at this time was on the higher end, maybe because of the time of day, so maybe a little overlap. The fire and disaster plans have been posted on the wall, with a backpack filled, readily checked with student emergency cards, and basic first aid needs. All toys are placed in bins or tucked away in a safe and presentable order. The outside had multiple opportunities for children to optimize risk taking tasks, with trappies, slides, play structures, age appropriate bikes, and tumbling mats.
I also looked around to see how healthy is the environment. I observed that each child washes hands when they enter the class, after using the bathroom, before meals. The diaper areas was wiped down with disinfected after
It is important to take into account the health and safe requirements of all pupils before planning or starting any activity, ensuring that the environment is free of hazards and the children can play and learn safely.
Security: Any outside area used by children should be secured and boundaries regularly inspected, to ensure the safety of all pupils.
For my middle childhood observation I chose a 10 year old female by the name of Mycah Landry. Just to give you a bit of a background, Mycah attends a magnet school and makes straight A’s. She is a very smart young girl. We will start off by comparing Mycah’s physical development to that of Berger’s in the text. As documented in the text “Unlike infants or adolescents, school-age children’s growth is slow and steady. Self-care is easy –from brushing their new adult teeth to dressing themselves, from making their own lunch to walking to school. In these middle years, children depend less on their families and do not yet need to cope with the body changes and impulses of adolescence. Muscles become steadily stronger.” From my observation I
Another hazard that could occur is the nappy bin overflowing the babies this is placed in both the 0 to 1 year old room and always the toilets that used for only the children. Children of the younger age may try to pull these items from the bin this puts bacteria and germs onto their hands if this is unnoticed their hands will not be washed and they may touch toys or put their fingers
It is important to maintain a safe environment for students inside and outside of the classroom. My goal is to make sure that the children understand what being safe is. I make sure that they know how to play safe. All of the toys and the materials that the children use are safe. I make sure that there are no broken toys that may harm them around. The children along with me create the class rules. I make sure that the outlet plugs are in place and that the cabinets are secure. The children follow the classroom rules. I make sure that I supervise the children at all times. I also make sure that I observe the areas where they play, work, and eat. I make sure that shoes are tied. I make sure that
Also, the staff should assist the children and make sure everything is put away and watch that no child attempts to chew on any of the little objects.
Early years require sponge flooring in the play area outside to prevent injury that you would receive from concrete areas. The equipment that the teacher uses needs to be safe. For example, when reaching up high in the classroom to do a display an elephant’s foot or stepladder should be used as opposed to standing on a chair or table. When using equipment for physical activity (PE) safety mats for climbing frames, the beam, etc. must be in place.
COSHH regulations exist to protect employees from risks associated with hazardous substances at work. To maintain healthy, safe and secure environment for the children, Keep all the substance or chemicals away that are extremely harmful for the children. Those chemicals should be kept in another building away from the school and locked up properly so that no children are harmed and so that children can be safe. Always put on gloves while doing any chemical work, messy work or while washing something. Be aware that the products are never mixed as this could give rise to hazardous by-products; e.g. Bleach will give off chlorine gas if it’s mixed with an acidic cleanser such as harpic. All the children are little and don’t know about any chemicals that are very dangerous to them in causing them to death. So such chemicals shouldn’t be kept lying on the floor in front of the children because they might start playing with it or might drink it which is very dangerous for them.
I observed in the preschool class for two hours, there were a total of 12 children in the class Most of the kids that are in the preschool class were four years old, but there was one five year old. When I first arrived at the preschool, the kids seemed very shy towards me and they did not seem like they were very sociable. I was a stranger to them, and I would have to guess that all of the children were experiencing a little bit of stranger anxiety. I talked to the teacher about how the children reacted to all “strangers” She said that the children often become very uneasy. As I sat down to observe the children, I noticed one thing right away. The boys in the group were very wild and rambunctious, and the girls seemed to be shy and
For this assignment, I observed my six year old niece, Faustine Bui who was born on August 16, 2007, at the park where I was babysitting her with her mom for approximately thirty minutes. The park I observed her at is packed with children and dogs are allowed. There is a large play area with jungle-jims and slide and it includes a sandy area which has a variety of playing equipment as well.
Subject “Chris” is a 7 year old middle class Caucasian male. Observation is taking place in the child’s home over the course of two separate afternoons. Chris is a friendly and well spoken child who is small for his age. Chris is the youngest child in his family and both observations take place while his siblings are home. In each case one or both parents are absent.
This study is intended to document my observation of a child between the ages of 2-5. The small child I observed is a 4 years old male. Family arrangements consist of the mother being the primary caregiver of her son. Since the child is not old enough to consent to my amateur study, I have received permission from the mother and father. The method used in this clinical report is a naturistic observation in which I went to the family’s household where I recorded his behavior for an hour.
Behavior Observed: Upon entering the house Abby politely took my jacket and hung it up on a chair. She then ran up the stairs and asked me to come see her dollhouse. She identified every little thing in her dollhouse as she was showing it to me. She showed me the “windows”, “stove”, “soap”, “mantel”,
The child I observed was a seven-year-old girl in Year 2 who sat on the second highest ability table in a mixed class. While not in school, she lived a substantial distance away meaning she travelled to and from school by car and was often the first child to arrive in the morning and the last to leave in the afternoon. I will focus on the social and emotional development of this child who, from now onwards, will be referred to as C.
This report is based on a “Systematic Observation” (Berk, 2003, p.44). I designed a simple form to record the data based on specimen record and event sampling in which the
