Chinese Culture Vs American Culture

Have you ever wondered how High Schools are in other countries? Despite sharing some minor similarities, the differences between Nicaraguan and American High School education are clear. Such as, note-taking methods, grading system, classroom environment.

Another challenge pointed out by most of the respondents is Chinese cuisine/food and dinning practice as one aspects of culture that tend to provide diverse perception and misinterpretations to both Chinese and Africans as the Chinese cuisines and way of dining is mostly interpreted by for instance most Chinese that Africans don’t like Chinese food, whiles the African on the other side wrongly classifies Chinese as a “groups of people that eat almost everything”.

It doesn’t matter what kind of ethnicity you are, or how you were brought up. Everyone is deeply rooted in their own culture. “Culture” has a different meaning to everyone. Comparing American culture to Chinese culture we will find many different meanings to the word “culture”. Because my neighbor is considered suburban it often gets a bad rep. A lot of people think that suburbs are boring and aren't interesting. As this suggests, the problem is also cultural. For the most part, American culture and opinion are still created, even in the Internet age, in cities at either edge of the continent. If intellectuals do deign to look at the suburbs they assume that so much banality must be hiding something deeply

According to the Merriam Webster dictionary, the definition of culture is “the customary beliefs, social forms, and material traits of a racial, religious, or social group”. Every country has its specific culture and there are some obvious cultural universals between China and America. One example of such cultural universal is the directness of American versus the humbleness of the Chinese people. Another example would be the self independence of the young Americans versus the young Chinese who tend to depend on their parents. What I would like to cover are the holidays observed by United States and China, roles played in the family by husband and wife, parenting styles and conflict management.

Cultural differences are apparent from one group of people to another. Culture is based on many things that are passed on from one generation to the next. Most of the time people take for granted their language, beliefs, and values. When it comes the cultural differences of people there is no right or wrong. People should be aware of others culture and respect the differences that are between them. The United States and China are two very large countries that have cultures that are well known through out the world. There are many differences between the United States and China, but there are many contributing factors that shape the cultures of these two countries.

Economy is the main element of every country.It is like a heart for country.It holds the status of a nation.It is mainly the consumption and production of goods and services available in country.It keeps on changing with time.Many country goes under debt with economic change whereas some become the most powerful nation in world.Mostly, China , America and Europe suffers a lot in economic change. My main concern is about the economic development in China and United States of America. These countries have lots of similarities and difference in many aspects.They are at the top of the list in power and wealth as compared to other countries.

Every time I come home from college, my family and I would go out to yumcha or, as directly translated from Cantonese, to “drink tea. However, drinking tea is only one component of yumcha. To yumcha is to converse with company over a meal of many small dishes and hot tea. Going yumcha is social activity brought to the United States by the people from the Guangdong region of China, also known as Cantonese people. When they immigrated to the United States, yumcha became an important tradition because it also enabled Cantonese parents to socialize their children into the Chinese culture through the language and social practices involved in the meal and the ritual and meaning surrounding the tea. However, to Chinese-Americans such as myself, going yumcha with native Chinese people also emphasized my American identity due to my food choices. Yet when I go yumcha with non-Chinese people, I become distinctly aware of my Chinese identity when they fail the language or rituals of this tradition. There are about 195 countries worldwide, yet if one were to be questioned about any one specific culture, they would not be able to answer. As already known, the United States is a country of immigrants. It could be described as “a ‘melting pot’ in which different cultures have contributed their own distinct ‘flavors’ to American culture” (Zimmermann, 2017). One of the most distinct cultures that have entered America would have to be the Chinese culture. China is a unique country in itself yet with so much to learn, it is safe to say that the average person would not know a small fraction of what makes up the Chinese culture. Much like Richard Rodriguez, my parents were not native to America and therefore, learning a new language and adapting to the culture was an indefinite struggle. Growing up, many Americans perceived my family and I as “too Chinese” and in the eyes of the Chinese, I was “too American”; this concept was only intensified after my trip to China in 2011. Chinese-Americans authors Amy Tan and Gish Jen have both grappled with the idea of mixed identity in America. For them, a generational problem develops over time, and cultural displacement occurs as family lines expand. While this is not the problem in and of itself, indeed, it is natural for current culture to gain foothold over distant culture, it serves as the backdrop for the disorientation that occurs between generations. The United States of America and china have very different political culture. They both have many similarities and differences. The United States of Americas politics are based on equality of all people and equality opportunity. China differs in many ways politically but most importantly in equality. China does have most of the same rights but they are not always followed. Most women do not receive the same opportunities and are not treated the same.

The United States of America and China have a rough relationship, but it is clear to anyone that they are the two biggest superpowers in the world. These two countries have the highest GDP (gross domestic product) out of any other country, and they are both very influential over other countries, making them the two largest powers in the world. Being two major powerhouses, the two countries have many similarities, and after taking a closer look at the geography, people, and history of the two countries, it becomes evident that there are many differences as well. The geography of the United States varies in many ways.

The United States and Vietnam have almost opposite cultural systems under Hofstede’s cultural dimensions. There are four main categories which is a power distance, uncertainty avoidance, masculinity or feminine, and individualism or collectivism. Vietnamese has a high power distance when the US have much lower power distance. For instance, they respect others by their ages because of their culture. Usually an elder man is the most powerful person in a family and a decision maker. Parents didn’t used to allow to speak up anything from their children and also some physical violence were accepted as discipline, but it’s been changing. Uncertainly avoidance is weak in a family situation, on the other hand, the US has weak uncertainly avoidance

This year is my forth year that I has been studying in the United State. I’m already used to the U.S. culture and the U.S. living style. So in general, I didn’t experience any culture shock after I got here. If I had any culture shock, it’s probably three years ago. I couldn’t remember any of them. However I do have some thoughts about the differences between the U.S. and China after four years of studying in the United States.
