Christmas is arguably the biggest holiday in the western world. It is the holiday that brings forth the spirt of joy, giving’s and love. Christmas is also the year that brings forth remembrance of Jesus Christ’s birth. However, the nativity story, the story of Christ birth, has much more meaning to it then what people reflect on it as. When the Nativity story is told it seems the main focus or the “happy ending” is always the savior birth. That arguably is not what the Bible fully attended the focus to remain on. The Nativity story is more than just a story about Christ birth; it is a metaphor that paints the picture of the two people’s faith in God and ultimately the gospel in a nutshell. Mary knew that Joseph would most likely leave her due to her mysteries pregnancy and a tarnished reputation. Although, those things are very important factors to look at when considering the risk Mary took, when she accepted to birth the Messiah, the most significate risk Mary had taken was the endangerment of her own life. According to the Old Testament law, if a women failed to remain physically pure before marriage she would be brought “to the door of her father's house, and the men of her city shall stone her with stones that she die: because she hath wrought folly in Israel, to play the whore in her father's house: so shalt thou put evil away from among you.” And if the women was “betrothed unto an husband, and a man find her in the city, and lie with her; Then ye shall bring them both out unto the gate of that city, and ye shall stone them with stones that they die.” Again, Mary knew the challenges she had to face. She had nothing but a story of an angel to give to Joseph and the towns’ people. The possibility of Joseph and the towns’ people believing that Mary, a poor servant, miraculously became pregnant by the Holy Spirit is as slim as it would be now. In fact, most would conclude that Mary was covering up an immoral relationship with Roman soldier. Yet, Mary kept the same attitude that her son had in Gethsemane when He prayed, “not my will, but thine, be done.” Regardless,
All Christians believe that Jesus is their savior, but there are many different ways his death can be interpreted. One of the ways we can look at Jesus’s death his through historical accounts. Almost all historians believe that there was a man named Jesus who had a large following, and was put to death by the Romans. But why, from a historical point of view, would Jesus be crucified? One major reason is that the Romans seen Jesus as a political threat. The Romans view order as the most important thing in their empire, and around that time there was a zealot uprising. Then, they see Jesus preaching about the coming of his “Kingdom” and so they thought that he was leading a revolution. Therefore, Jesus was executed at the hands of the Romans for being a Lestes, meaning bandit or outlaw. However, Jesus
Who is Jesus? We have never seen him, so how would we know for sure that he exists and is indeed God’s only son? Jesus is the central figure of Christianity. His name appears in the crucial part of the Bible, especially in the New Testament. The coming of Jesus had been prophesied by many Old Testament prophets, such as Micah and Isaiah. The name Jesus is often used in both positive and negative ways. For example, people receive blessings from God and praise Him; but in another way, they use the name of the Lord in vain when they encounter any mundane failures. Through reading the Bible and devotional books, we can learn more about the interesting and meaningful life of Jesus.
John nine verses one through seven is the being of the grace giving and truth telling of Jesus in this section. When Jesus spoke with the man that was blind I believe he ministered to him and gave him a brief explanation of who he was. The disciples asked him if this man sinned from birth or did his parents sin? Jesus used the truth telling when he answered the disciples by saying this man didn't sin at birth and neither has his parents sinned. It also gives truth-telling by letting the disciples know that it was to give God the glory. Now for the grace-giving part of Jesus, is him giving the Blind man back his sight. The reason why this was grace-giving was because this man had been blind his whole life, but when he came in contact with Jesus, he showed him grace by healing him.
The earliest Christians did not have church building. They typically met in homes. (The first actual church building so far found is at Dura Europos on the Euphrates , dating about 231.). They did not have public ceremonies that would introduce them to the public, and they had no access to the mass media of their day. So, to understand the steady and diverse expansion, we can have a conversation, about the Apostle Paul, we don't run across many "big names" as missionaries in the first few hundred years of Christians history. Instead, the faith spread through a multitude of humble, ordinary believers whose names have been long forgotten.
I was first introduced to Jesus Christ through several Korean missionaries from America, who came to my orphanage in Russia one day. A bright green church, which is my favorite color to this day, was implanted right behind my orphanage and the people of the church went around inviting and encouraging people to join them on Sunday mornings. We were told there would be donuts and other food. Of course that would lure any orphan right off the bat. I among other children, joined the church on Sunday mornings. Maybe it was simply the donuts, but I felt accepted right away. Although I was very fond of the things we were told and taught, they appeared to be only stories to me. The stories did not become an entity or reached my heart until after I got adopted into a Christian family three years later.
Today we want to look at the causality that took place in the Garden Tomb during the 6 day war.
Early Christianity had a lot to do with the transformation of Rome and posed a challenge to the Roman Empire. Christians were known as the enemy of Rome, primarily because they refused to worship the emperors as the embodiment of Rome’s Gods meaning they were denying his divinity and authority. The one whom the Christians worshiped had been declared a criminal, was tried and put to death the roman state.
Throughout Jesus’ time here on Earth, he changed many peoples’ lives. For example, he would heal the sick everywhere he went, as well as preaching to thousands of people about God and His Salvation. The Pharisees, a group of legalistic people, were trying very hard to convict Jesus of a crime, because they did not like how he would “rewrite” the laws of the city in order to help people in need of a savior. In fact, there are three distinct times in Matthew 1-14, where Jesus “rewrites” the Jewish law in order to continue ministering to thousands, if not millions, of people.
Jesus was sent to live among humanity with the purpose of freeing us from our sins. His true identity is the one who saves us all from evil and keeps watch over all of making sure we are doing all the right things for a successful ascension to heaven. Jesus uses this true identity to make us greater humans and even better children of Gods earth. Jesus made the ultimate sacrifice to sacrifice himself so we can all live happily and safely on earth. But aside from his ultimate sacrifice, he lived perfect life on earth. He was merciful, never gave into temptation and never strayed from his beliefs in God. From his feeding a village with two fish and five loaves of bread, healing the blind, or even walking on water; Jesus was more than just his
In this day and age, Christianity is the most popular religion in the world boasting a following of about 2.4 billion people, or 32% of the world’s population. But this was not always so, it originally came from a small sect of the Jewish religion. Over time it gained mass amounts of followers and became its own faith, but this was not the original intent of Jesus. His intention was purely to spread the word of the Lord and try and save humanity from their sins.
First, The facts ABOUT JESUS were recorded by eyewitnesses, who gave firsthand testimony the what they had seen and heard. The apostles are the closest that we will get to verifiable truths. Where it can be argued that I as 21st centrury pastor , I am believing a lie that can be argued against the apostles, for they were in a position to verify the existence of Jesus, and willing to die for him. Now people die for lies all the times, however no one dies for a lie that they can easily verify as a lie. In other words The writers were all living at the same time these events transpired, and they had personal contact with the events or with people who witnessed the events. Many people that we assume as historical, is assumed as such with things with far less evicence. We don’t have anything close to eye witness testimony on Julius Caesar. I thnk the olderst document is written something like 300 years after his death, and I think I am being generous with that, if I remember correctly… 1) Plato has about 1250 manuscript evidence, Caesar has about 950 much of them comes from Rome. BUt the bible we have
Women played a most important role in early Christianity Women’s interaction with Jesus is very crucial roles within the life and teachings of Jesus. The resurrection of two people are restored to women, Nain to his unnamed mother (Luke 7:11-17), and Lazarus to Mary and Martha (John 11:1-44). Women attend to Jesus at the cross and are the first to see the resurrection of Jesus. More specifically Jesus infers there should be no hierarchy in Christian relationships (Matthew 20:25-26). Women also played a considerable role in the formation of the church. Many early churches were home churches and the environment was provided by the women. For example, Martha becomes a church leader by offering her house as a home church and by assisting in
Collating all the sources from early non-Christian sources, we can come up with the following facts about Jesus Christ which perfectly agree with the data of the New Testament:
friends. Their speaking in foreign tongues became their badge of honor. Competitiveness emerged to see who was more orthodox and more gentle and humble. All their time was devoted to performing good deeds as hurriedly as possible, not wanting their consecration to be challenged. One easy method to prove their devotion was to discover those in hiding without the mark and reveal them to the police. Everyone believed it a duty to report to authorities anyone not giving their loyalty to sweet Jesus. When such sinful people refused to repent, and were publicly executed, Christians of the world shook their heads in disbelief. They could not imagine the extent of the depth of a fallen nature capable of blinding people to such ruin.
