Christianity is a monotheistic religion that uses the holy bible to guide Christian followers of God in a positive lifestyle. Christ has many symbols that depend on the branch one follows in Christianity. Three modern day main branches are Orthodox, Catholic, and Protestant. In Homo Religiosus Armstrong states, sons are taken from their mothers and put in a ritual to exit childhood to enter manhood, but they would not choose to do this if they were never taught to; therefore, the repetitive rituals as a modern day child, one learns from one’s elders about the belief one has (38). They each share similar biblical values along with the desire to have an afterlife in heaven with God; however, each Christian Modern Day Main Branch differs slightly …show more content…
The Orthodox branch has priests, popes, deacons, monks, and nuns. One who leads the worship services, honor ceremonies of life or ceremonies of death, and allows you to have confession with him in a double sided private talking area would be known as the Priest. Congregation (members) has very high respect for their priest and they have confidence and trust in him nearly like they would have in God. Popes receive this also; furthermore, he is in charge of choosing the church officials. Monks are males, and nuns are females who both take sacred vows to have zero valuable possessions in order to feel the deep faith of God limited to no distractions. The Catholic branch has the pope, priest, bishops and clergy. Bishops work above the priest to spread the word of God to the congregation and they can have the priest go to any church as necessary. Bishops are also teachers, and they purify the faith of the people. These duties are shared with the priests and deacons who serve under him. On the other hand, clergy’s choose the …show more content…
Followers view him as their salvation because he forgave their sins. Christians give to others in the name of Jesus. God's followers choose to give to others in order to replenish the action of God, offering his son. In Homo Religiosus, the author mentions, “... others bury these inedible remains, symbolically restoring the beast too the netherworld from which it came.” Christians believe if we do the right thing by God, then God will accept them into heaven in the afterlife after they have been buried (Armstrong
The Pastor is considered very similar to an Priest in the Roman Catholic Church but are recognized as having different roles and hierarchy. In the Catholic Church, a priest is an ordained minister who holds the fullness of the sacrament of holy orders and is responsible for teaching doctrine, governing Catholics in his jurisdiction, and sanctifying the world and representing the Church. While attending this church I was introduced to Bishop James Francis Checchio who would be leading the services. Equivalently, as the Baptist church services commenced at the same times on relating days. Thus I joined the masses on a Sunday morning at 11:30am after the early service which began at
Due to the catholic church being one of the oldest established organisations throughout the western and eastern world, the hierarchy and leadership roles are very complicated. E.g
In a Hierarchical church the level of power and importance comes from the top down. Therefore the person with the most power is the head of the church or religion and people
Originated in eastern Mediterranean throughout the life of Jesus Christ, in addition to it becoming the major religion of the Roman Empire by the end of the 4th century
The secular clergy helped the public, secular people spiritually. The secular clergy gave out sacraments, provided spiritual assistance, and led prayers. More specifically, bishops did jobs such as wedding ceremonies, performing absolution, and hearing confessions. Priests went to church on Sundays, talked about saints and their lives, and hear confessions as
Me: How are the basic beliefs of your faith similar to the other monotheistic faiths?
The Catholic Church believes that St. Peter was the chief Apostle, exercising by Christ's appointment the supreme power of governing His church. The priesthood was established by God among the Israelites during their exodus from Egypt. God chose the tribe of Levi as priests for the nation. Their primary duties were the offering of sacrifice and prayer for the people. Christ, in offering Himself up for the sins of all mankind, fulfilled the duties of the Old Testament priesthood once and for all. But just as the Eucharist makes that sacrifice present to us today, so the New Testament priesthood is sharing in the eternal priesthood of Christ. While all believers are,
Christianity derives from the teachings of God’s son Jesus of Nazareth and his apostles who later became known as Jesus Christ. Being a Christian is living a very righteous life. Christianity is a monotheistic religion such as Islam and Judaism. “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have an eternal life.” This is a major factor in christian faith. This exact quote is not a belief for other religions but, it is known to be the foundation to have a great afterlife. It shows how only Christians believed in Jesus being God's son and in the holy trinity. In conclusion, Christians are to live in
Priests also perform more quotidian rituals such as the blessing of new houses or cars.”(PANSTERS) A couple of things that have become a typical stereotypical believe for the Catholic Church is the thought that all priests, are child molesters (usually of young boys). This started with allegations against one priest and within a short time was discovered that several others were also accused and investigated. Now when one thinks of the Catholic Church or of priests it tends to be one of the first thoughts that tend to come to mind. Also, the Catholic Church is stereotyped as believing the Pope is the absolute power this is also not true.
A priest has many advantages. Such as being one of the most important roles in your group. Mainly because they are in charge of healing the members that die in the group, but if your group gets wiped out the blame pretty much get brought back on you. You get a lot of respect from the others in your group if
The Pastor is the overseer of all ministry, operating, and finance activities and works in cooperation with the Executive Team concerning these areas. The Pastor is also the main ambassador of the church to the community and is responsible for preaching, teaching, training, and upholding the church's doctrine. He or she is also responsible for counseling, comforting, and ensuring that the spiritual needs of the people are met. Moreover, the Pastor administers (or oversees the administration of) ordinances of communion and baptism as well as weddings and funerals (along with his/her associate ministers). Although the Senior Pastor is primarily responsible for these things, he/she may designate others to serve in these areas as necessary. There are two roles that cannot be delegated. First, the Pastor must nurture his or her relationship with God through consistent prayer (Luke 6:12 and Mark 1:35); failure to do so will negatively affect the church. Second, the
“The single most important belief in Islam, and arguably the central theme of Islam, is that there is one God. The Muslim name for God is Allah, which is simply Arabic for "the (al) God (Ilah)." The term is related to Elohim, the Hebrew word for God.
(SIP-A) The priest did church services, officiated weddings, funerals, baptisms, and visited the sick and was in charge of the seven sacraments in his parish (s8)
These included liturgical, ecumenism, the role of laity of the church and religious life changes. Some of the liturgical changes included active participation; meaning that the laity of the church were able of participate in responses, song acclamations and audible prayers; but one of the main changes were the liturgies being carried out in the language of the people instead of Latin. Ecumenism changes also occurred after the Second Vatican Council. These changes taught that the church is the whole people of God. Christians were brought to unity by responding together in prayers and they gave each other the sign of peace. The role of the laity of the church changes includes the teaching: the church is made up of baptised people not just popes, bishops, priests and other religious authorities. The role of the laity of the church is to bring the gospel of Jesus into ordinary society with authority, creativity and the power the Holy Sprit has given them in baptism. Another change that it brought was the change in people’s views. Before the Second Vatican, the people of the church felt as if their dignity was less than those of the Pope and bishops but after the Second Vatican, the role of laity of the church changed all that. It taught the people of the church that their dignity is the same as those of the Pope and bishop. The role of the laity of the church is to accomplish the mission of the church
They are subject to the authority of the pope as well as the authority of the leader of the state. Also, they are commanded subject to the rule of the Vatican as well as the rule of their homeland. For Rousseau, “religion of the priest” is “so bad that it is a waste of time to amuse oneself by proving it. Whatever breaks up social unity is worthless. All institutions that place man in contradiction to himself are of no
