Christopher Columbus was a well-known traveler who originated from Italy. Christopher Columbus had a legacy that was troubled with disagreements for reason of his treatment towards the native population. His journeys encouraged mass amount of Europeans to obtain interest in taking over the Americas. Throughout his letter written to Sant’ Angel, Columbus explains his emotion in being very satisfied with the results he has revised throughout his first voyage. Christopher Columbus then goes into detail concerning his appreciation to the royal King and Queen, Ferdinand and Isabella as he mentions, “I passed over the Indies with the fleet which the most illustrious King and Queen, our lords, gave to me” (Columbus 8). Christopher Columbus creates a powerful image for the King and Queen because he trusts that the maintenance of Ferdinand and Isabella throughout his journey was an incredible aspect that resulted in his spectacular accomplishment.

In summary of his first voyage, Christopher Columbus would spend two months travelling to the Indies, lose many men to scurvy, and turn not a profit but instead the promise of the New World (1; 2). Rife with shortcomings, Columbus’ voyages would have little to no short-term practicality, and rather leave a trodden path for future explorers to follow into the Americas—a path pleasing investors. The popular story about Christopher Columbus we’ve all been told since we were young is simple. He was a radical explorer who was the only one of his time who thought that the world was round, while everyone else believed it was flat. After getting denied his voyage multiple times, he finally got to sail for miles and miles with a complying crew to where he thought was the West Indies. However, he discovered that he was in fact in the Americas. He befriended the many indigenous people who had lived there for many years before he’d gotten there, and everyone was happy! Yet, almost all of this popular story is false.

Christopher Columbus was a sailor from Genoa. He always wanted to explore new places. One day he was looking out at the ocean and he thought about if the earth was really round. He wondered if he would be able to get to the Indies by going west. He wanted to try it.

Totally under pressure to deliver, Columbus set out for Asia. On the line was the fame of Spain, the governorship position (over new found lands) promised him, and the title of the “Admiral of the Ocean Sea.” Therefore, Columbus had to succeed by any means possible because he had been told to bring back “ships of gold and slaves” although success wasn’t guaranteed.

They were considered to be the lower middle class back in this time. This town was almost surrounded entirely by sea, and there were a lot of sailors. Christopher Columbus grew tired of working on land and became fascinated by the ocean and sailing, so when he became a teenager he got a job working on a merchant ship. Were he stayed out at sea until fourteen seventy, when pirates attacked the ship he was working on. Christopher Columbus managed to escape on an ore, and floated for days until he reached the Portuguese coast. Portugal was the leader of ocean navigation during this time and this was a perfect place for Columbus. In this biography I plan on talking about how Christopher Columbus planned on seeking a royal sponsorship on his outrageous plan to discover a new route to China, but instead he stumbles upon a new world.

Christopher Columbus, whom was born in 1451 in Geno, Italy, became to be known among history’s greatest explorers’. He was a son of a weaver and started sailing as a teenager. In the year 1492, he set off to begin his first voyage to establish an oceanic trade route between Europe and the Eastern Indies. However, instead of reaching any Asian countries he had landed in a place that he called “San Salvador”. Nonetheless by the end of his sailing career, he had accomplished 4 voyages to establish a settlement across the Atlantic Ocean and sailed to various other parts of the globe establishing territory for the Crown of Castille.

Christopher Columbus is an Italian Explorer who had convinced King Ferdinand, the Second and Queen Isabella the First to fund a voyage to Asia to establish trade with China, Japan, India, and the Spice Islands to get valuable spices and silks. Spain went with a foreign explorer because of his benefits over the local explorers. To see what these people's motives are and what they want I will do a background check for the King, the Queen, and Columbus. I’ll also go through why the King and Queen went with Christopher Columbus’s pitch for his voyage. This will shed more light on why King Ferdinand and Queen Isabella chose Columbus.

Christopher Columbus had been determined to find a direct water route from Europe to Asia. His first voyage into the Atlantic Ocean in 1476 nearly cost him his life, he was attacked by French privateers off the coast of Portugal. This should have been a sign for him to end his attempts to complete a voyage across the ocean. After he had been searching for a sponsor for about 20 years, King Ferdinand and Queen Isabella had finally agreed to pay for the expedition. Columbus and 90 other sea people took sail on August 3, 1492 to the “Americas” on the Nina, the Pinta, and the Santa Maria. He had encountered several issues on the way, and had to keep postponing his trip. It wasn't until his third voyage that Columbus actually reached the mainland.

Columbus’s dedication to his career and knowledge about his goal made him an appealing candidate for the exploration of what they believed to be the West Indies.Columbus’s strong persistence and knowledge made him well versed in the art of exploration. He learned how to make maps and navigate a ship. Columbus had the desire to explore the western course into the Sea of Darkness, about which little was known, which shows that Columbus was the most daring seamen in Spain. Columbus spent years trying to convince someone to pay for his voyage. He was turned down by Portugal because they had plans to go around the tip of Africa. He tried in Spain where the Spanish were in a war with Granada. He tried again Spain and was denied. However, Columbus was persistent and tried once more, and his efforts were rewarded. The Spanish granted his proposal to sail west to get in the East.

Christopher Columbus is an outstanding man in American History. Without him, who knows where the Americas would be at today, or how much longer it would of took explorers to find them, if Columbus wouldn’t have had the great idea to sail straight across the Atlantic Ocean, to try and reach Asia. Here are just a few little facts about Columbus’s life before he signed his contract with the Spanish monarch, he was born in 1451, in the Republic of Genoa, which today is known as, Italy, and was the son of a wool merchant. When Columbus was a teenager, he got a job on a merchant ship, and stayed at sea, until 1470, when his shipped was attacked; and made it to shore barely by floating on a piece of wood that was left from the ship after it sunk (History.com Staff) Later, in his life he decided to move to Lisbon, Portugal, where he studied many different subject, such as: navigation, mathematics, astronomy, and cartography.
