There are many advantages and disadvantages of working relationships between foreign parties. In 1492, King Ferdinand and Queen Isabella of Spain put their trust in the hands of a foreigner named Christopher Columbus. They funded his voyage thinking that the outcome would be a shorter route to Asia, but instead it ended up being the discovery of a lifetime because in this situation one man and his team of men sailed three ships into the atlantic ocean and ended up in the Americas. The advantages of the Spanish monarch putting their trust into Columbus was that the voyage could bring great wealth to the monarchy while also strengthening trade with Asia. The disadvantages of putting trust into a foreigner would be that tension between the Spanish monarchy and Christopher Columbus could lead to untrustworthy behavior.
Christopher Columbus, an Italian explorer sailed across the Atlantic ocean in 1492 in hopes to find a new route to Asia. Before any of his amazing discoveries happened, there were many events which shaped Columbus in his early years. Columbus was born in the Republic of Genoa, in 1451, but later on settled in Spain which became his home for the rest of his life. Before Columbus’ life changing voyage, he had some sailing experience which added to his abilities. He participated in many trading voyages in the Aegeon and Mediterranean seas and also voyaged to the island of Khios, which would be the closest he would ever get to Asia. His first voyage, however, was unforgettable. In 1476, he sailed out to the Atlantic Ocean. While sailing, the ship was attacked by French privateers while sailing around the Coast of Portugal. His ship was attacked, destroyed and burned. This left Columbus with no other choice than to swim back to the Portuguese shore. After reaching the shore, he soon made his way to Libson, Portugal. When he made it to Libson, he met a beautiful girl named Felipa Perestrello and asked her to be his wife. In 1480, Christopher and Felipa gave birth to their son Diego.
