In what ways does he represent the catholic churches power in the worlds rise to the digital age? According to Merriam-Webster, religion is based on “an organized system of beliefs, ceremonies, and rules used to worship a god or a group of gods”. Even today religions still debate on their system of beliefs to the point where a war among the two may break out. For example, the Catholic church led a charge against Muslim Turks in the middle ages starting the first crusade. Pope Urban II initiated the crusade in order to aid the Byzantine empire. If the catholic churches goal is to promote peace love and happiness, why would the church lead an attack against Muslim Turks in a “holy” war? The drive for power drove every predating pope insane as each and every member of the church would try to claim this position for its power and wealth. The church was placed above royalty in the middle ages and in the renaissance. The church was so powerful due to the fact
Gabriel Garcia Marquez's Chronicles of a Death Foretold shows how Machismo drives all male ambition. Machismo, in Latin American countries was derived from the word macho meaning an intense masculine pride. Machismo was first used in 1948, and was taken as a code of honour for men, rules that would make you considered macho. Respect and reputation are highly regarded as important traits in Machismo, and are the driving force of reason in the novel. (Add another sentence about the broadness of Machismo).
The church in the Medieval era, however, was incredibly powerful and mostly unopposed. Salvation, to the religious, was and remains the most important aspect of faith. Religion without a fate after death is almost entirely hopeless and borders on nihilistic. The Catholic church used this incessant fear to fuel their political vendettas. This is made evident by the attempted squelching of the Reformation sparked by Martin Luther as well as the expulsion of the Moriscos, Jews, and Protestants from Spain. The church had successfully convinced an entire continent that the only true way to attain eternal life was through the doctrine of the church. This gave the Pope authority, power, and uncontested control over the Christian people, for a
“In a time of great political chaos, the Roman Catholic Church was the single, largest unifying structure in Medieval Europe. It touched everyone's life, no matter what their rank or class or where they lived” (DBQ 2, Doc 3). The church may have tried to unify Europe, but how could it have, with all the invasions. The Vikings stormed in and raided the churches. If anything the church further promoted the dark age. They practically made themselves sitting ducks. They took lots of money from the people, but had no way of protecting the money. With the Christian beliefs, how were the people supposed to defend themselves during an invasion? The Vikings raided the church of their wealth, sending them further into poverty. Then, continued to collect money from the people, saying that they would one day go to heaven. How is it an Age of Faith, when the Vikings would burn down the monasteries and churches, and raid them? Further showing how dark of an age it

Almost all religions around the world are based on a belief. Almost every religion have certain rules and principles that order together within a society: Many people misunderstand and misinterpret the holy texts the Bible, Quran, Torah, and others fabricate. Religion is defined as faith to a higher being who one believes has created us. It has also been used as laws through history to stop the committing of crimes. In many religions, the consequences of breaking rules and regulations of the religion are burning in the pit of hell. Religion is man-made and was created for many reasons but mainly to keep peace and justice in the world. But the words can be manipulated and used as an excuse to start wars on this planet. This caused many to believe that the world would be a better place without religion.

kings have been using religion for generations to control the populous. These religions have been using their gods as excuses to go to war, attain more land, and institute its own set of laws, Christianity, one of the oldest religions and most followed religion, has been using the idea of heaven and God’s will to say that their god is right and other gods are the “enemies”. One huge examples of this would be the Crusades, a set of three holy wars, the first of which started in 1095. The pope wanted to reclaim the holy land because it was under the control of the Turks and Saracens, who the pope thought was unholy. Pope Urban II said to the leaders of Europe in the Court of Clermont in 1095, “Concerning this affair, I, with suppliant prayer-

Maria Alejandrina Cervantes is the town madam which by society’s standards makes her to most marginalized, but ironically she is not brought down by her society’s rules. Gabriel Garcia Marquez uses characterization and irony to demonstrate Maria Alejandrina Cervantes’s contradictory role and to develop the theme of going against society in Chronicle of a Death Foretold.

In Chronicle of a Death Foretold, Gabriel Marquez uses symbolism and irony to achieve the theme of feminism. Angela Vicario has been obligated by her culture to marry a man whom she does not love. However, she has broken the tradition of remaining pure in her wedding day."... the fact that Angela Vicario dared to put on the veil and the orange blossom without being virgin would be interpreted as a profanation for purity” (Marquez 41). Females are held to an unobtainable standard that no woman can fulfill this is shown by the fact that Angela is impure in her own wedding.
