Ah marriage! That one blissful day all young girls dream of, standing at the altar in a beautiful white dress, gazing into the dreamy eyes of her beloved and promising to be wed till “Death do them part.” Reality soon sets in after that. Her Prince Charming is a real man! His feet stink, and he throws his dirty laundry on the floor. Was it not meant to be? How does Cinderella handle it? I talked with a young woman in my church that is still relatively a newlywed. Mrs. Jewel Ward was raised in church, has been married for a little over 2 years and is expecting their first child. She is the only young woman in our church who is married and I was interested to see how she dealt with “reality” once the honeymoon phase was over. Would marriage be full of struggles like the world likes to tell us, or would having a solid foundation in God strengthen the bond?
Every girl plans out their life to some extent or another, and Mrs. Ward was no exception. Sitting in school, she thought of the future. “I want to get married halfway through college and be able to announce my first pregnancy on my graduation day.” she decided. Check, and check! Her life is coming together the way she hoped. One thing though that she planned on did not come to pass; before her wedding day, she was preparing herself for the inevitable struggles that would come along with the wedded bliss.
