The Cenozoic era (65mya to present), the current era of Earth, includes three periods, Paleogene period (65-23mya), the Neogene period (23-2.58mya), and the Quaternary period (2.6mya-to present). After, the decline of dinosaurs, mammals took centerstage, and the climate changed drastically. Paleogene period (65-23mya) is the first period of the Cenozoic era, during this period most of the Earth's climate was tropical, and the continents of Earth drifted further apart producing expansive oceans. In addition, invertebrates, fish and reptiles started to evolve into the species we know today. Towards the end of this period mammals, birds, protozoa, and flowering plants experienced a distinguishable evolutionary change. Tertiary fossils are used as evidence proving the existence of the life forms in this period. The second …show more content…
At the end of the last Ice Age smaller mammals replaced large mammals of the Ice Age. It is proven through radio carbon dating that during the end of the last Ice Age, humans migrated their way to what is now England which was in a rapid warming cycle. Again, carbon dating is found by, “The determination of the age or date of organic matter from the relative proportions of the carbon isotopes that it contains.” The events that began in the Cenozoic era have helped to determine what flora and fauna exists on Earth today. Concerning the history of the Earth I am ambiguous to all of the milestones presented based on scientific evidence that are discovered through the use of the law of superposition, index fossils, radioactivity, and the relative age of a rock. These are seemingly sound methods to gain more information regarding the Earth's history. However, I am also partial to the ideology of the bible and cannot yet accept or decline the research I have
The age of the earth has been debated for centuries. Many people believe in evolution that it took billions of years for everything and everyone to form. Others believe that God created the earth in seven days and that the earth is young. Secular scientist and Christian scientist both use different methods for determining how old the earth is. For example, Secular scientist look and use the layers of rocks to help them, while Christian scientist uses the Bible and look at historical data from other cultures to help them. Doesn't looking at archeological data seem more accurate than looking at rocks? If the earth is truly billions of years old, then why is there little sediment on the sea floor? Or how can secular scientist explain finding soft tissue in a fossil if the earth is old? The most logical explanation is that the earth is young. Many people believe something just because people say that it is true, sometimes it is good to investigate for yourself and see if it is good for you.
Paleolithic: The Paleolithic period lasted from about 200,000 b.c. to about 10,000 b.c. It was the early phase of the Stone Age; and encompassed a steady development of stone tools, antler and bone artifacts, engraving on bone and stone, and paintings on the walls of caves and rock structures. There was not much structure built or agriculture done in this period as the people lived a nomadic lifestyle, migrating with the herds of animals they hunted for food.
The Jurassic Period is a time period were new dinosaurs were being discovered and found. It was about 199.6 to 145.5 million years ago. Some of the species that were found in the Jurassic Period are the Stegosaurus, Ceratosaurus, Brachiosaurus, and Allosaurus. Each dinosaur had their own characteristics for survival.
Mainstream science make predictions based on varies tests. For instance, one of the test said that in a certain geological eras some animals should have transitioned from fish to amphibians. This helped the scientists find just such fossils in that era. Old-Earth seculars believe “tree rings over 6000 years old, thick layers of limestone, and the sequence of animal fossils in rock layers” are evidence for an Old-Earth view.
Shifting from the end of the Permian period 250 million years ago into the next era, the Triassic period occurred between 250 and 199 million years ago and was know for further diversifying life on land. After the Permian period, the Triassic period was largely successful in adapting and evolving, as the world was going through many changes. The land mass known as Pangea began its separation, which would be completed in the Jurassic period. The climate was relatively more severe during this time, with hotter summers and colder winters, but because of the warmer atmosphere, there were no polar ice caps at this time. Towards the center of Pangea, it was mostly a dry desert climate. As for life on earth, most of the marine life had been wiped
Paleontology or paleobiology is the study of plant, animal, and microorganism fossils found on the earth. Paleobotany focuses on algae, fungi, mosses, ferns, seed plants
For the time compass enveloping vertebrate advancement, there are three periods: the Paleozoic, the Mesozoic and the Cenozoic. The very effective mammalian versatile radiation is altogether inside the latest period of topographical history, the Cenozoic. There are seven ages in the Cenozoic - Paleocene, Eocene, Oligocene, Miocene, Pliocene, Pleistocene and Holocene. In Paleocene (65 m.y.a.), the Lemuroids were the gathering of primates that existed. The Ruffed Lemur began in the tropical rainforests of Madagascar.
The Cambrian Period marks the beginning of the Paleozoic Era. This period gets its name from a place in Wales where the first examples of this type of ancient life was found. The period lasted for nearly 53 million years, from about 543 million years ago until 490 million years ago. The Cambrian Period marks an important point in the history of life on earth; it is the time when most of the major groups of animals first appear in the fossil record. This event is sometimes called the "Cambrian Explosion", because of the relatively short time over which this diversity of forms appears. It was once thought that the Cambrian rocks contained the
The Eocene era was the one that followed Paleocene period. There was mild climate during this time despite North America and Europe breaking the land. There was increased forest vegetation, sunny conditions and rainfall that started being observed at the poles. This period comprised the omomyids and the adapids primate groups. There happened to have differences and some similarities. Both happened to possess features linked with living the modern primates like grasping feet and hands that had nails rather than claws. They both had a postorbital bar that was complete (Soligo, 2007).
Newman is quick to point out that there are many variations of the old earth creationist position. Of these, however, he finds three main varieties, which differ primarily in their views on the nature of the days of the creation week. These three categories are: (1) The day-age view. As implied by the title, this view considers the days to be chronological, but not 24-hour periods. Rather, they are long spans of time,
The Pleistocene epoch was a time period of almost 2 million years of repeating glaciation around the globe. This epoch was known for its megafauna that roamed the Earth during the last great ice age. Although this was a time of mass extinction for species that could not adapt to the climate changes, many mammals and vertebrates that can be identified today were found during this time (Zimmermann, 2013). The Pleistocene epoch is an important foundation for understanding life that exists today, including carnivores, herbivores as well as the evolution of humans.
dinosaur age to the Cretaceous period, to the world we are living in today, where global warming
The Paleolithic is divided into three phases which are Lower, Middle, and Upper. The upper stone age began about 42,000-37,000 years ago and has continued up until the ice age ended. Their ways of forms of communication are much different of the way we communicate now. Their forms of communication is visual arts which consists of
Jurassic is a period of time with Dinosaurs, rodents and birds. There were also island seas consisting of sharks, sea monsters and blood-red planktons. The existing plants in that period were cycads, ferns and conifers. The Mesozoic era was about 245 million years ago to 65 years ago, so it almost lasted about 180 years in total. The Mesozoic era is divided into three periods of Triassic, Jurassic and Cretaceous. Mesozoic era means middle animals and it is the era, which the word’s fauna has changed from what is in the Paleozoic era and the most famous organisms of this era are dinosaurs. In the Mesozoic era, the extinction of more than 90 percent of species in the earth was observed and the reason behind it was mostly volcanic eruptions and climate changes. On the other hand, this era had massive changes that represented ecological niches and rise to new creatures such as rodent-size mammals and first dinosaurs. In Triassic, which was the first period of Mesozoic, the mammals and first dinosaurs existed. Later than that, the second period was Jurassic, which giant shaped dinosaurs and other kinds of dinosaurs were developed. Besides that the first flowering plants and primitive birds, with long teeth appeared in that era as well.
For decades the age of the Earth has been a major conflict between science and religion, but why is it such a big conflict? If, in the year AD 1600, an individual had asked an educated European how old the planet Earth was and to recount its history, the response would have been that it was about 6000 years old and that its ancient history was given by the biblical account in Genesis (Changing Views of the History of the Earth). If one asked the same question of an educated European in AD 1900, one would have received a totally different answer (Changing Views of the History of the Earth). The answer would have been the Earth was ancient, there had not been a Noachian flood, and that the species of life had not been fixed over the history of Earth (Changing Views of the History of the Earth). In short, Genesis was an allegory and not literal history (Changing Views of the History of the Earth). This brings up the different views between “young earth creationists” and “old earth creationists” and those that support an infinite universe. The problem today is each side contains major valid points of evidence of both biblical and scientific, on the age of the planet Earth.
