The Civil War was a war between the South and the North. In the South they wanted slavery, and if they were in the North they did not. The conflict arose when the North wanted to abolish slavery, and the South wanted to continue. The Civil War was a 4 year battle, in the United States. The Union and the Confederate soldiers fought from 1861 to 1865 in the Civil War.

The Civil War was a great deal about slavery. Slavery was overwhelmingly the cause for example, the "states' right" always mentioned seems to have been the right to have slaves. IMHO. If you wanted to stop the war you needed to stop slavery.

Throughout the annals of American history, the advocation for freedom and the unification of southern and northern societies under the union had been an idealistic hope for America. But, as the new country evolved, with that evolution came division. The deviations that overcame these two factions ultimately led to what we know as the American Civil War. For former slaves were in a difficult position following the war they had received their freedom, but not much else. For the freedmen there was a brief belief that freedom would grant them everything that they needed to succeed. They wanted an equality of rights with whites. African-Americans wanted these rights to guarantee their status as citizens who would not be dominated by their former Confederate neighbors. The civil war began on April 12th, 1861, and ended on May 9th, 1865. It had lasted about four years. The war was between the North and South. Northern states fought to abolish slavery and southern fought for slavery and states rights. At the time our president was Abraham Lincoln. All battles were bloody and worth a fight. The result of the war reunited us together as one.

Abraham Lincoln once said to George Robertson “‘Can we, as a nation, continue, together permanently—forever—half slave, and half free?’ The problem is too mighty for me. May God, in his mercy, superintend the solution.” (Hobson, 1912) This he wrote in a private letter in 1855. It was another year before Lincoln felt ready to think about saying the same thing in a way that would be really heard. He made his position clear September 18, 1858, stating “I will say then that I am not, nor ever have been, in favor of bringing about in any way the social and political equality of the white and black races,” going on to say that he opposed blacks having the right to vote, to serve on juries, to hold office and to intermarry with whites. (Mintz, S., & McNeil, 2016) The Civil War in the United States was inevitable. The great sectional differences between North and South were far too great, and the main reason for these differences was the fact that slavery underlay both the southern economy and society. No one, not even Abraham Lincoln could dispute the growing gap between the nation at that time.

The question “What is the root cause of Civil War?” is easily answered in a simple word: slavery. The enslavement of thousands of men and women is one of the main reasons as to why the Union broke apart and went against itself. Slavery influenced many factors such as geographical expansion, political endeavors, industrialization, and economic structure. The issue of slavery caused problems concerning new territories, political disorder, and economic stress. With slavery at the very root of these oppositions, it ultimately led to the division of the nation; North against the South.
