On May 28, 2015, high school students Morgan Cassidy and Coralyn Whalen performed their self choreographed jazz duet, titled Clarity. Clarity is the story of two people in a very addicting relationship, that is completely hopeless, but continues to hold on to hope. Clarity, along with many other pieces performed in St. Theresa Catholic Secondary Schools dance recital, was an effective and eye catching piece that used distinct emotion throughout the entire song. The piece had very substantial timing issues, and minor technique issues, but overall, the piece demonstrated excellent partnership and promising potential.
The dancers of Clarity used profound emotion not only in their faces, but in their movements as well. Throughout the entire dance

In this particular piece, it was clear that the dancers were striving to hit each beat perfectly, but their efforts weren't enough. In most sections of the dance, one of the dancers-sometimes both of the dancers, were not in perfect unison. Perfect timing is essential for a duet to look clean and professional. If the dancers were to perform this piece again, I would advocate them to work towards restoring the timing of their number.
My last point is about the dancers’ techniques, which especially relates to the timing of their piece. While observing the dance, I couldn't help but notice the amount free movement being used. I don’t necessarily think that using free movement was the best idea for this piece, because the tempo of the song Clarity is very technical. In my opinion, if the dancers had increased their technique to perfect their piece, it may have looked professional and complete.
The partnership that Morgan Cassidy and Coralyn Whalen displayed throughout this whole piece created an excellent number, and promising potential for future pieces. If both dancers work hard to improve on the few things I have mentioned, I feel that this number will reach its full prospective, in the near
Some of the movements executed by the dancers are similar to those executed by dancers in a stepping performance and also in a tap dance presentation. This presentation falls into the group of the new trends of modern dance, in which the choreographer are taking more and more liberty with various dance combinations, and including strong messages in their work. I would definitely attend other dance performance, not only from this company, but also by other companies; and would also recommend this performance, especially to people going through a dark period in their life. This performance finished convincing me that dance is surely the most communicative of the art forms, and that a single presentation can convey more than one
But this: this was really perfect--more than lived up to all the hype. I;ve only seen Patricia McBride on video, but from that viewing, I prefer Tiler's interpretation. I really like the way she does that sequence of attitudes derriere (sorry, I can't describe it better, it probably has some other name)--some dancers lean over their supporting leg too far and it starts to look angular and ungainly.
have been well showcased in this difficult piece. These pieces are seen as challenges for many modern singers as well. It goes to show just how talented and well trained the performers were.
On May 18 2016, I attended the La Costa Canyon Dance Recital, “A Night At The Movies”. The show was performed by the school’s dance team, Dance Mavs, and was well executed and rehearsed. The show provided an interesting interpretation of famous movies and their impact on the audience. Famous dances and themes were portrayed throughout the night, allowing for not only an entertaining experience, but an extremely memorable one. The amount of work put into the show was evident and allowed the audience to appreciate each dance with more respect and admiration. It is obvious these shows can take a toll on those performing, so it must be all the more rewarding when it turns out as great as the recital did.
Just recently I went to view the Dance Plus Spring performance on Saturday April 23rd, 2016. Overall, the show was unique and exciting at the same time. Each of the performances were very different and they conveyed their own separate messages and themes, which made them all so exciting and fun to watch. The performance that I will be critiquing in this paper is “Excerpts from The Rambler.” Choreographed by Joe Goode and Melecio Estrella, this piece was performed in a proscenium stage because the whole idea was to have the entire audience engaged and have them view and understand the message they were trying to communicate.
We went to see this last evening (opening night for this program) and were blown away. Never having seen anything on the program before, I didn't know what to expect, but each piece was magnificent. Stanton Welch's "Tu Tu" seems to me to be a kind of personal love song to ballet. The opening and overall structure reminded me of Ashton's "Sinfonietta" with a very energetic first movement followed by a stunningly beautiful slow movement and then a fast and again more lighthearted finale. It was the second movement that amazed me the most. A solo ballerina slowly emerges from darkness and seems to reflect on her career as a ballerina with tenderness and sadness. The mood of this piece was masterfully created. It was beautifully and
Their techniques was amazing, they have proper timing and the have the best showmanship. Their emotions were well shown to the audience and its very relatable, but theres something that I think that needs improvement and that is stage spacing. In some dances, most of the dancers stays at center stage and some dancers stays at downstage, I think they could use some movements that can move dancers to different positions. There’s a few things that I would change if i was the director, I would add more dance styles in the dances and I would also wanna change the costumes into more modern
The concern is fascinating. It is so beautiful to watch. I really enjoyed the concern. In the concern, I said “Awesome! Beautiful and good job guys” so many times. I appreciate choreographers, people who take care of music, sound effects, costume designer, and all dancers to give a fantastic concern for audiences. Each dance represents its meaning and messages that dancers want to communicate with audiences. For example, in “Rain Goddess”, I saw the eight birds are flying through raining on the ocean. I saw light rain, heavy rain, and heavy wind on the ocean. It was fantastic that by dancing, performers can bring audiences to the ocean and feel everything that dancers feel. I also love “The spell”, dancers look like angels. I saw purity, innocent,
13. During this piece I could imagine people dancing at an elaborate gathering in their large ball gowns, and all of the finest. This piece began slowly, yet cheerful then the tempo began to speed up. There was in intermezzo performed by Amy Schroeder which was moderately fast with movement. By the end of the piece there was a rapid tempo. This piece was beautiful, and at times seemed as though the music was jumping, again almost playful. The faces of the quartet was astonishing in itself. At times the musicians appeared in pain, and at others seemed to be in heaven. There were times during the concert where the musicians appeared as though they were about to jump from their seats. You could definitely see their passion, and it was exquisite. The dynamics of this piece were so that at one point I jumped. I was in shock and a little embarrassed that the music actually scared me.
Two dancers begin dancing a beautiful duet when the music begins with a delightful twinkle. They turn in unison and are moving gracefully to the beat. As the music swells a corp of ballet dancers come in quickly running to their spots. They quietly place one foot behind them as they are transiting to first person. The single male dancers reaches for the ballerina he is standing by and begins by pulling her into a romantic embrace
The performance appeared to represent a jazz, lyrical interpretative manner. The outfits also portrayed that to be contemporary and even futuristic. The movements of the dancers was very precise, quick and multiple, while occurring at the same time. The most interesting thing while watching the video was, the dancers were playing off of one another in a very timely
“Live in Awe” is a modern dance that has a lot of free movement mostly shown by the smooth spinning and unified arm movements. In the context of the evening, the dance was the grand finale of the evening, so expectations were high by the audience members. First, the dance steps and movements were almost always perfectly coordinated between all the dancers on the stage. Throughout the dance, the many dancers on stage performed the same maneuvers so it is important that they are counting to ensure that they all make the movements at the same time. In detail, the dancers did a great job in moving in unison and as one which really enhanced the dance. Furthermore, I understand that the scene was supposed to be slow and mysterious, but the dancers still performed many skillful maneuvers such as slow, controlled spinning and jumps which really added to the impressiveness of this dance piece. However, I think that some of the dancers could have done a better job at extending their arms and legs from their body which would have helped dramatize the movements. I think the dresses worn by the dancers were appropriate because they emphasize the movements without hindering the range of motion. All in all, the dancers in “Live in Awe” did a great job in using fast jumps, turns, and other skilled movements to create an impressive
There are several reasons why I loved this one. The first reason, because the background music touched my heart because it reminded of my father. Also, I the reason that made me like this dance because a lot of dancers participated in this dance and how they were very well organized and they were moving together and their movement wasn’t distracted at all. The costumes of the dancers were incredibly perfect as the dancers looked like angels. Moreover, the light was amazing. Also, another dance that I really liked called Paris this dance surprised me. I had mix emotions at the same time while I was watching this dance. Now, what surprised that it was performed by Dr. Yoav Kaddar and Maureen Mansfield and Dr Kaddar is the director of the Dance Now performance and he’s also director of the Dance program. The background music reminded me when I was in Paris and a lot of good memories there. The dancers were awesome as you I saw two old dancers dance like as they were very young dancers and they were connected to each other and their facial expression was very good and was suitable with the background music. Moreover, I liked the idea that Dr. Kaddar and Mansfield because the other dances was performed by young dancers but, this act was totally different and
I liked the dance piece because the dancers were limited physically in their bodies, but their dancing was beyond limited and astounding. At first, I was a bit doubtful and sceptical before watching the dance because I thought the dancers were going to perform with very minimal and stiff movements. But to my surprise, the dancers moved gracefully on stage. The two dancers used quite a lot of space. The dancers used all levels of space from low to high. For example, the dancers executed amazing leaps, jumps and lifts in their performance that represented as high levels of space. The dancers movements were grand; however, they were also whimsical, sharp, circular, and clean. The dancers utilized most parts of the stage. The pattern of the space that performers used was more curved than linear. There were two dancers in this piece, the male dancer that had only one leg and the female dancer that had only one arm. The genre of dance that was performed was a ballet; though, in my observations the dance seemed to be more contemporary than ballet. For instance, the tempo of the dance was slower and had less rhythm than most classical ballets I’ve observed. Also, there were a couple of pauses and rests during the performance. The dance
When I saw the piece, named, “Lapa’s Lament, I thought it was very unique and interesting. When the dancers were doing several movements with it, I got very confused. As a result, this confusion caused me to draw all the attention towards the dancer and to their performance. After a dance progresses, dancers were trying to tell a story with their movements. I think some of the dance movements, they were doing was very fascinating to watch. As a result, I was trying to make the whole story in my mind, as it was very unclear for me, what they were doing, but when Randy James came and talk little bit about the dance, I would able to understand what the dance is about. The way his dancers performed by showing their emotions, I thought it was incredibly performed. I felt that this dance was not losing its limelight throughout the performance. That is, the way they were communicating with each other through their body language and physical contact was just amazing. It shows their effort, as the dance steps included twisting and tumbling. Some of the dance steps, I have never saw in any of the dance companies who came to performed. I felt the dance was full of body movements, and I thought it would require a lot of physical strength to perform this kind of
