SPC Yancey this is your June monthly counseling, you have been doing an excellent job taking over for SPC (p) Wehle, and you have taken ownership of each task. Good job working on responsibility as well as being there for the section. I appreciate your willingness to take charge of situations in my absence. You have a good leadership ability, the Soldiers like you and want to work for you. This is a part of your leadership that you need to nurture. While you do take ownership of tasks and missions there is a weakness in your follow through on a given a task. I suggest that you trust but validate every tasks you give the troops. This confirms follow through and appropriate completion. Do not be afraid to make them redo a task if mot completed

The counseling session with my volunteer client began with an opening statement and informed consent. Also, I conducted a 21-minute interview with my volunteer "client." The session includes the mini-mental status exam (MMSE) authored by Kurlowicz & Wallace (1999) due to my client's age. After the MMSE assessment, I asked my client an open-ended question and continued to apply my counseling skills. I closed the session with a summary. However, I ran over the allotted 15 minutes. My client presented dressed appropriately, is of better than average intelligence, is well oriented, and appears as having good judgment, no delusions nor is he psychotic.

During the counselling session, your logics and philosophy must be directive to the communications that show those interconnection links in the client’s story that help the client to modify. The counsellor should reach at a score of the client’s motivation as excellent, good, fair, poor, or uncertain. In this chapter, different approaches to counseling were addressed. Of the five approaches, person-centered stood out to me the most. In person-centered counseling, “the counselor is most often interested in focusing on the meaning and feelings of the client; the actual facts of the problem are considered less important” (p. 397). I like this approach the best because I feel that therapy should focus on the client. The client is attending therapy for him or herself, not for another person. I feel that this approach is very authentic to the client because when decisions are being made, it is based on the client’s feelings and emotions rather than the therapist. In role play, I wanted to keep the focus on my client. I stated things like “Who do you think you are as a person?” and “I want to focus on you and who you are”. In this session, I really wanted
First Session Summary Summaries are used to clarify client comments, provide feedback and demonstrate that the counsellor listened and understood the client fully. I summarised using both factual information and Charlie’s subjective experience at the beginning of the session, to recap and orientate Charlie to the key points from the first session. I felt that the summary was done well. It summarised the major points of the first session, such as the panic attack and the subjective feelings of failure and worthlessness. I do however think that my speech was disjointed and did not flow as well as it could have.
