Climate change is the change in average weather of a region. Climate change can be, for example, change in region’s average annual rainfall or change in region’s average temperature for certain period (May, 2011). In a broader view, climate change can also be seen as change in Earth’s climate with an example being global warming.

We all see the weather change from day to day and it is just a normal occurrence. Seasons change from warm to cold and we all just go about our business. But what most people don’t see change is the climate. Climate changes over a long period of time and it has shown a warming trend in the past few decades. Many people attribute this warming trend to the alarming rate that humans are burning fossil fuels and pumping Co2 into the atmosphere, however some people think that climate change is merely a myth or that global temperatures have always risen and fallen during Earth’s lifetime.

Over the past 150 years there has been undeniable evidence that suggest the Earth is warming at a significant rate. Scientist who have done extensive research on Global warming as it as known have concluded that the major cause is the ‘Greenhouse Effect’. The Sun emits light waves and energy that pass through our atmosphere, this is absorbed by the surface and turned into heat energy, which then radiates off and is emitted back into the direction of space. Not all of the particles are able to make it out of the atmosphere due to gas molecules clogging up the air. This is warms the Earth very similar to the way a greenhouse would; the atmosphere being the glass of the house and the Earth being the vegetation inside the house.

Issues that arise because of climate change are sea levels rising, growth in ocean heat content, and buildup of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere due to human activities. Humans contribute the most to climate change by engaging in driving, burning fossil fuels, and natural gas distribution. Climate change is conceivably evolving due to human activities and minimally biological factors but, climate change is still a scientific phenomenon that requires further investigation.

Climate change could be described as any process that causes adjustment to climate system be it a volcanic eruption to a change in the solar activity. Today, however, the phrase is most often used as climate change caused by humans. Climate change is also used commonly with another phrase – "global warming" – reflecting scientific observations of strong warming trends over the past century or so. Indicators like rising sea levels, retreating snow cover and glaciers, longer growing seasons and shifting wildlife has alarmed scientific community unanimously agreeing that the earth has warmed in the last century. Experts however are of the opinion that climate change is a more accurate phrase than global warming as the latter is just one component affecting the larger climate systems of the earth.
