Climate change is an increase in the Earth’s average temperature. It’s a massive problem because of the disastrous effects it can cause and has caused. The current effects and proof of climate change include ocean acidification, more extreme weather events, melting glaciers and ice sheets and warming oceans (NASA). Almost 97% of scientists also believe that climate change is due, at least in part, to human activities that pollute the atmosphere . The evidence that shows climate change is occurring and is due, in part to human activities is overwhelming. However, people still deny it’s existence, hindering those who want to look for solutions. Climate change is very real, whether you choose to believe it or not. The evidence of climate change has been measured and tested and shown to be very accurate by organizations like NASA and the EPA. Scientists have even used this evidence to source the cause of climate change. Satellites recorded a dramatic increase in carbon dioxide levels in our atmosphere. There was an increase from about 300 parts per million in 1950 to 400 parts per million in the last several years (NASA). This …show more content…
This includes famous scientists and several reputable scientific organizations, including colleges and government run programs. Colleges like the U.S. National Academy of Sciences state that the evidence for climate change is more than enough to justify actions to prevent greenhouse gas. Government programs that recognize climate change as a real problem include U.S. Global Change Research Program and the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (NASA). Famous scientists who believe in climate change include such recognizable people as Neil Degrasse Tyson and Bill Nye. Both of these men are highly respected in the scientific community. Not just random people are supporting the existence of climate change, it’s also respectable people and
According to the IPCC (2007), climate change refers to a change in the state of the climate that can be identified (e.g. using statistical tests) by changes in the mean and the variability of its properties, and that persists for an extended period, typically decades or longer. It refers to any change in climate over time, whether due to natural variability or as a result of human activity. Studies suggest that the global climate has been warming and will probably continue to do so. Thus complicated process drives an array of effects, from distinct events like extreme weather to long-term impacts that vary by location, intensity,
Climate change is a serious threat that has dramatic effects on the world ranging from melting glaciers to disappearing islands. Climate change has seen a drastic change since the period of rapid industrial growth for humanity due to the higher reliance on fossil fuels in order power the technologies that were developed such as cars and factories which created harmful gasses which had minimal effects in the beginning but later began to have major effects on environments around the world. Although climate change is denied and questioned that it even exists by many people today, including president elect Donald Trump and a significant portion of the scientific community, scientific evidence shows that it does in fact exist and is a serious threat
In the past few years, the issue of Climate Change has been introduced as an new and upcoming problem for modern leaders. There are many people who think Climate Change is a hoax, but at the same time there are many people who thinks it is the real deal. I am here to tell you that Climate Change is real and a very big problem. First off, Climate Change describes the increase level of greenhouse gases and the increase of temperature of the Earth overtime. In recent years temperatures in many areas have reached the highest they have ever been, and temperatures look to continue to rise.
Climate change is defined as the change in global or regional climate patterns, which is apparent from the mid to late 20th century onwards. When looking at climate change there is an abundance of evidence that supports that humans are the leading causes of the drastic shift in the weather pattern but there is also a lot of evidence against humans actually causing climate changes. For example, the increasing levels of man made gases that are let into the atmosphere may have created a greenhouse effect, which traps heat and ultimately causes global warming. But there are also many scientists who believe that the earth has always naturally cooled down or warmed up at its own pace.
For those individuals who doubt climate change is real, I would strongly recommend they watch this documentary; it just might change their perspective on climate change and how it has led to extreme weather changes. Research shows that "Eighty-eight percent of natural resource professionals in this study agree or strongly agree that the science indicates that our climate is changing" (Allred et al. 10). The problem is most people do not truly believe the facts that are discovered by scientist. President Donald Trump is one example, you hear it over news reports saying that us as people do
Climatologist Tim Ball argues this point in his article, The Science Isn’t Settles – The Limitations of Global Climate Models. Dr. Ball looks at the data of global temperatures and concludes that the earth’s atmosphere is actually cooling while in its cooling cycle, which is the complete opposite to the assumption that the atmosphere is heating up. In 1999 a petition was asked the U.S. Government to reject the environment treaty The Kyoto Protocol, which was signed by over 17,000 other scientists sharing the same views. These scientists view that there is no convincing scientific evidence around the idea of global warming and all of these conclusions are not justified. They believe that the human release of CO2 and other greenhouse gasses are not contributing to global warming and the climate change, instead the increase of CO2 is promoting plant and animal growth. Some other scientists argue that global warming is being blown way out of portion and its effects are so small we will not notice its effects. They believe this increasing in extensive publicity is an environmentalist scam for more recognition, power, and
Global warming is not fiction. Scientists have found new and dramatic evidence of what’s happening to our world, and the impact is already being felt; it’s time for the non-believers to begin believing. The extreme weather we’ve all suffered through, all across the world should be a default red flag in your mind letting you know climate change is occurring. People put forth climate change as if it was something new although the science demonstrating man-made climate change is quite old, presented, and well established. For the past 150 years, scientists have been aware that carbon dioxide is a greenhouse-gas. In the 1800s, Svante Arrhenius, a Swedish chemist, performed the first calculations of what would happen in a hypothetical scenario where
Climate change is a fake. Many people say we have climate change, it’s because we use too much fossil fuels. We produce too much carbon dioxide or greenhouse gases. And then we have global warming. But actually, we feel the climate change or global warming it’s because human existence too short. Earth was formed around four and a half billion years ago. But human just appear only a sudden.
Climate change, global warming, greenhouse effect—even if you only watch the news periodically, these are phrases that you have most likely become aware of. In short, climate change is the change global and regional patterns regarding climate; this is due to possible changes in the Earth’s axis, human activity modifying the composition of the atmosphere, or geographical activity such as volcanic eruptions [1]. Many have speculated and argued whether climate change actually exists. Regardless of your opinion, a staggering amount of scientists have accepted climate change as a reality. In fact, the much-admired astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson claims that individuals denying scientific facts is the “beginning of the end of an informed democracy” [2]. The article Climate Change: No Hiding Place supports Neil deGrasse Tyson’s notion stating “those who doubt that greenhouse gases are quite the problem they have been cracked up to be by most of the world's climatologists” [3]. While it may be difficult to see climate change presently, there are many indicators of its existence with the higher temperatures and acidity levels in the ocean, the melting of Arctic ice caps,
The definition of climate change is “a change in global or regional climate patterns, in particular a change apparent from the mid to late 20th century onwards and attributed largely to the increased levels of atmospheric carbon dioxide produced by the use of fossil fuels.” (Google Dictionary). Due to our dependence on fossil fuels as our main source for energy and our carbon dioxide emissions over decades, climate change has rapidly emerged on Earth. Yet, we still have those who deny any scientific evidence of the effect of the dependence on fossil fuels. Climate change is a threat one should not ignore but want to reverse with the transition from fossil fuels to clean energy.
The evidence supporting the fact that climate change is occurring because of man is strong. It’s just to spread out over so many fields of study that linking them all together and proving it remains elusive. Man-made climate change is very real, despite denial by some and our government’s failure to act, the consequence appear too grave to ignore. Reducing carbon emissions would mean disrupting the livelihood of lots of people, that is usually the reason that people continue to not believe. More people have to be made aware of what is going on, because our governments cannot solve this problem on their own. Convinced or not, any mature person should realize that wasting energy is wrong and there are laws against it. All one can really do in
There are many factors leading into why climate change is not as of a concern as people make it out to be. What is known as the ‘Climategate scandal,’ demonstrated that data used to show results of climate change was manipulated. In 2009, the leaked emails from a university exposed the scientists who have been using this false data to sway the public. Dr. James Hanson and other scientists were all involved in this scandal. They lowered past temperatures, changed recent temperatures and deleted data that proved them wrong. The emails also showed that the scientists attempted to censor any scientific journal that opposes their work. Alongside the scandal of 2009, there was another scandal in 2011 in which an organization attempted to hire an
Climate change is now at a point of being undeniable by anyone who gives it a serious look. Ten of the hottest years since they began keeping records of global temperatures in 1880 have occurred just since 1998. What's more, 2014 was the hottest year in the record books according to NASA and NOAA. These simple facts cannot be refuted by a simpleton Senator bringing a snowball onto the floor of the U.S. Senate and seemingly thinking that snow still exists therefore climate change must be a hoax. One area of serious study by climate scientists currently is the degree to which it is causing extremes in weather patterns around the world.
Climate change has been in the news for years. Earth's average temperature has risen by 1.4°F (0.8 degree Celsius) over the past century, and is projected to rise another 2 to 11.5°F (1.1-6.6 degree Celsius) over the next hundred years. The main cause of climate change is due to the
This doesn't necessarily mean that every scientist sees eye to eye on each component of the climate change problem, but broad agreement exists that climate change is happening and is primarily caused by excess greenhouse gases from human activities.” (EPA)
