The intention behind Millennium Park was to create a crowning glory to the city of Chicago. In 1999, during the planning of Millennium Park (Chicago), two proposals were submitted for an installation sculpture. One by American artist Jeff Koons and the other by Anish Kapoor, in which Anish Kapoor’s design for Cloud Gate was chosen. A lot of speculation regarding the financing aspect surrounds Cloud Gate and other works in Millennium Park. They were funded by 125 private donors who contributed $230 million and with cost overruns; Chicago’s public coffers were tapped in to source an additional $270 million . Initially, the park was projected to cost $150 million, and open in 2001.
However due to a four-year delay, it was finally inaugurated in 2004. At this time Cloud Gate

The initial estimate given earlier was $5 million . After a few transitional acquisitions during its construction, its technical name was revealed as ‘Cloud Gate on AT&T Plaza’. AT&T contributed $3 million towards the project while Millennium Plaza Inc. funded the remaining amount.
In order to maintain the sculpture’s reflective surface, cleaners come twice a day, once in the early morning, and once at night, to polish and clean the entire structure . Another batch of cleaners come and wipe down the bottom six feet (to get rid of fingerprints) up to seven times a day! This is because visitors have an instant urge to touch the sculpture’s shiny silver surface. Tax money pays for services such as the maintenance and security of Cloud Gate.
While Cloud Gate has brought global attention to Chicago and helped bring in millions of dollars into the local economy, it has also been criticized. It is suggested that the money used for its construction and maintenance could have been directed towards philanthropic efforts in order to promote local artists, thereby enriching the local art
Excitement has engulfed Nevada following the news that a new stadium could soon grace the world famous Las Vegas Strip. On August 26, The Las Vegas Review Journal reported that a 62 acre piece of land belonging to a consortium of banks from New York and Dallas was favored as the venue to host the $1.9 billion, 62,000 sitter Raiders football arena. The banking consortium operating under the Nevada Land Group LLC includes Credit Suisse Management, Barclays Bank, NexBank, and Highland Capital Management. The much sought swathes of land lie west of Mandalay bay and Interstate 15. The cost of land, and undisclosed site infrastructure is expected to cost between $350 million to $400 million. The deal, whose details are yet to be fully revealed, is a partnership between Raiders Football Team, Las Vegas Sands Corporation and the state of Nevada.

Later on Phoenix Bridge Company was chosen as promised and it was stated that their tender is the “best and cheapest” offer. The project began in October 1900. Cantilever design was the best fit and it would be the longest cantilever structure in Canada.
The main building of the Art Institute is constructed mostly of masonry, with few windows, and feels very heavy and overpowering. Grand staircases and large columns dwarf visitors as they move through the galleries. This is similar to the way the art in the space makes you feel: small, unimportant, and sometimes even afraid. The Modern wing in constructed of steel and glass, and is very open and bright (except when intended not to be). The large north wall facing Millenium Park is one large expanse of windows, letting in plenty of indirect sunlight, and opening the gallery to the park. The space feels very light, in both senses of the word. As with the old building, the art feels similar to the space in that it is more open and less opressive.
The Gateway Arch was designed by Finnish-American architect Eero Saarinen in 1947. Construction began on February 12, 1963, and was completed on October 28, 1965, for $13 million (equivalent to $190 million in 2015). The monument opened to the public on June 10,
The “ Keep Indianapolis Beautiful” organization is the reason there is a great appreciation for art, nature and sense of community in Indianapolis. As we know it today, Indianapolis is at its highest peak in employment and rated as one of the best cities to relocate to in America for better careers and quality of life. However, back in the 1940’s Indianapolis was referred to as a “raw, dirty and unkept city…”, a city people should avoid. Gangs, drugs, loitering and other illegal acts surfaced many neighborhoods and communities during that time. Considering where Indianapolis is today, one would never believe this city used to be ins such despair. Thanks to many civic leaders, devoted women and passionate residents, Indianapolis went from a trashy, neglected city to a place of beauty, pride and opportunities. Throughout this profile, I will identify how KIB’s legacy was created, its contibution to social capital through “private action for public good”, and why KIB is vital for not only Indianapolis, but the world in its entirety.
Construction costs totaled $232,372. Adjusted for inflation, it equaled $4,278,846.00 in 2016. The building opened for public tours for the first time in 1805 on New Year's Day.
My building(Palace of fine arts) contributed to the Chicago’s 1893 World’s Fair from many ways. First reason, how the Palace of fine art contributed to the fair was by “relieving them from monotony the exterior facades were adorned with mural paintings representing the history of art”(Says, 2017). This means this building was used to help people out. Second reason, how the Palace of fine art contributed to the fair was by “showcasing artworks”(McNamara, 2004). Palace of fine art shows off to Chicago to the rest of the world by “housing over 10,000 artistic works from around the world” (Wadsworth, 2014). This means that this building allows a safe place to put the exhibits. Finally, the Palace of fine arts is now called, “Museum of Science and Industry.
BP Bridge :- It is designed by Frank Gehry. It connects Millennium park with Daley Bicentennial Plaza.
State and federal governments wrestle with the many questions that come with the funding of public art. People wonder whether or not government has a legitimate role in the arts and if they do, whether or not the arts should be given funds when so many other needs are present in our society. I believe that art provides many benefits and that if policymakers would begin to understand these benefits that the arts have on government and citizens, then they would find a way to support the arts even through difficult financial situations. “Arts and culture are consistent sources of economic growth, during both good and difficult economic times. Specifically, arts and culture policies and programs increase economic development in states by attracting
At a recent management meeting Charlie Musselman, the president of the company, expressed optimism at winning the contract and revealed that the company could net as much as $2 million on the project. He also said that if they are successful, the prospects for future projects are quite good since there are quite a few major stadiums in Canada that will need replacing in the next 25 years.
Even though it was made out of expensive materials and trying to give a message to us as if the world is getting to a point where everythings is falling apart, and humans are decimating the environment and causing harm to a variety of different ecosystems, by giving that price Mrs.Canas is doing mostly the same thing by not allowing people to enjoy the work, display it at their offices or homes. But if the work was little cheaper than I believe everyone would buy it easily and use it for many good reasons.Overall visiting The Vault 1930 Art Gallery was one of the best experiences I’ve ever had thanks to the staff I felt like I was at a right place to learn so many new things, and get to know many talented people. It was much a clean and peaceful place that I spent almost 2 hours there enjoying every single artwork, I would recommend everyone to visit that lovely place ones in their lifetime to enjoy the real art because as Edgar Degas has said “Art is not what you see, but what you make others
The nonprofit organization begins their plan by assembling and discussing the right direction in planning the project of bringing back art program in Detroit schools but also making it a priority among other necessary courses. They will look to their community and government officials for funding. The board leaders will use their knowledge and research when lobbying to local government and the implementations of taking away these programs and the effects it will have on this generations ability to prosper in the future as well-rounded adults. They will work for the next five to ten years to bring back Detroit public schools art programs to all 81 public schools (Americans for the Arts, 2017). American for the Arts will ultimately argue to its political leaders to make Detroit Rock City musically driven again and consequentially lower crime rates and bring back tourism that will stimulate the city’s economy.

Given the fact that the city’s downtown district and main point of attraction is marketed as “The Arts District,” the community’s appreciation and support for artistic creativity is to be expected. The unexpected element that specifically Carmel provides is that this support is directed towards all local proponents in the area. In analyzing the recent advertisement for a community art fair (see Appendix B), this concept is more than clear. The poster, marketing the Carmel International Arts Festival, advertises the twentieth running of the event that showcases local artists of all backgrounds, mediums, and interests. At this event, artists (regardless of their skills or expertise) are able to generate self-exposure, sell their work, and introduce more of the community to their cultures and talents. These opportunities for local artists can serve as a means for many of them to use their artwork to earn their
