The soviets are to blame for the start of the cold war. The cold war revolved around three conflicts, spheres of influence, ideology, and military factors. The soviets used these three conflicts to start the cold war. One way the soviets started the cold war was through spheres of influence. In document number two it says, “The following circumstances should not be forgotten.” The soviets had forgotten the promises they had made at the Yalta conference. This made the soviets untrustworthy and made them unpredictable and dangerous. The soviets also used ideology to start the cold war. In document number six the author wrote, “Russians learned something new.” The Russians learned about the foreigners. The Russians wanted to control the whole …show more content…
The United States would send money and troops to countries fighting against communism. Some examples of containment where North Korea against South Korea, Truman Doctrine, and the Marshall plan. Containment was very important during the Cold War.
Even though the Soviet Union has collapsed, there are a few accomplishments that deserve to be in soviet text books. In the Cold War it was the soviets against the west, where the soviets were communist and the west were capitalist. Communism is when business are owned by the community or government and everyone makes the same amount of money. Capitalism is when business are privately owned and your income depends on your job. Three accomplishments that should be in soviet text books are socio-economics, military strengths, and space exploration. Here are a few

From document E, “the soviets had more submarines.” This was important because submarines guard the oceans, and the soviets can use these submarines to guard the oceans near their county, after all every county needs protection. Another accomplishment that comes from military strengths. Is also from document E, “the soviets had more nuclear arsenals.” Nuclear arsenals where massive weapons, and the soviets were obviously more dangerous. More weapons meant that they were more prepared for war. According to document E, “The soviets spent millions of dollars more in weapons than the United States.” This made the Soviet Union confident for wars and they weren’t afraid to go to war. All these three examples helped improve the soviet
The cold war got started by the erection of the Berlin Wall which was used to stop people from escaping the country. When the wall got put up the Americans started flying spy planes and found out that Soviets had nuclear missiles capable of going off and heading straight for places in the United States. When the United States found out about the missiles they got a navy
The Cold War was the result of a clash between communism and capitalism, two opposing world-views. Another cause of the build up to the Cold War was the intransigent attitude of both sides. The Soviet Union was extremely concerned about its security after having been invaded twice in the twentieth century. In 1945 America created and used the atomic bomb against Japan and the USSR was determined to create one of its own. Both the
When trying to figure out the factors that lead to the cause of the Cold War, it is best to look at other factors as well. It is best to look at both the Soviet Union and the USSR's policies and plan. For example, the United States held true to their idea of Capitalism while also being cautious of Soviet Communism. When Europe was in desperate need to rebuild after World War II, The United States made monumental moves to prevent the spread of Communism as seen with the passing of the Marshall Plan which had been a reaction to the coup in Czechoslovakia. The Marshall plan was designed to give immediate economic help to Europe. There was a confliction of deciding whether or not to allow the Soviets to join the plan or to exclude them. This aspect was solved by setting down strict criteria to qualify for American economic aid. This incident allowed the United States to investigate the financial records of applicant countries. However, the USSR would never tolerate this condition. The United States wanted to invite the USSR to join the Marshall Plan. The aim of the Marshall Plan was to revive European working economies so that political and social stability could ensue, and the other aim of the Marshall Plan was to safeguard the future of the U.S. economy. The Soviet reaction the the Marshall Plan was not very well. The Soviets rejected the Marshall Plan. The Soviets saw this as a prime example of American ¨dollar imperialism.¨ In other words, the Soviets
The various miore events of invasion and prevention of expansion had sharpen the Cold War to become what it was. The various events in question mostly involved the United States and Russia arguing over territory. Although these events influenced the outcome the Cold War, undoubtedly the formation of the Soviet sphere, the Truman Doctrine, and the attack on Afghanistan prolonged tensions during the Cold War. During the span of a few years, the demand and production of nuclear arms was increased significantly.
The Cold War was all about capitalism vs. communism, where the soviets were communist and the west was capitalist. From The Geography of the Cold War: What was Containment, “communism is a belief that private property should be replaced by community ownership.” Also from The Geography of the Cold War: What was Containment, “…private ownership economies of the United States and its allies.” One thing that started the Cold War was Winston Churchill’s speech, “Iron curtain.”
Stalin’ actions were responsible for initiating the Cold War, through his machination to expand communism throughout Eastern Europe. In 1945, Stalin violated the Yalta agreement and inflicted Soviet expansion in Eastern Europe provoking tension. Stalin’s expansion of communism was enacted with invigorating force , as diplomatic historian Richard H. Ullman states, ‘communist regimes had been thrust upon them
The Cold War is unique among war’s to be not a war between states, but a war between ideologies. The United States and other allies defend social democracy capitalism, as the pinnacle of freedom and equality; and the Soviet Union though communism was the pinnacle of equality. These ideologies manifested themselves through the superpowers, which caused the conflict between them. Both the United States, and the Soviet Union are to blame for the outbreak of the Cold War. The United State’s mission to contain communism with the Marshall Plan, personal remarks against Stalin, the creation of NATO, and the use of the atomic bomb in Japan without warning the Soviet’s, their ally in the war. On the other side, Stalin’s remarks on Churchill and Truman, the Berlin blockade, and the breaking of agreements in Poland, escalated the situation from tense to a Cold War.
The Soviet Union wanted to eventually have a Soviet-led Communist world. This in turn wouldn’t have worked because of all of the people that they would have to defeat in order to get what they wanted. They had posed a threat to the Unites States, although they were much smaller in number than the United States was. Both of these countries had nuclear weapons but the only thing keeping this war “cold” from the nuclear weapons was the fact that they didn’t want to start a World War III. This is completely understandable because of the devastation and losses that both sides had seen during the first two World
The origin of the Cold War began with the Russian Revolution in nineteen-seventeen, which created a Soviet Russia. The Soviet Russia did not have the same economic and ideological state as the United States. The Civil war in Russia in which Western powers unsuccessfully intervened, dedicated to the spreading of communism. This fueled an environment of mistrust and fear between Russia and the rest of Europe. The United States pursued a policy of isolationism; however the situation
To understand the Cold War, one must first understand the reasons why each nation decided to engage in it, their thought process, and what they saw as legitimate and ideologically correct. Joseph Stalin sought protection against another German invasion by creating a buffer zone between the West and the East, and by making new allies in Europe. The West disliked how Stalin took an anti-democratic and strong-arm approach to create his alliance. However, one can better understand Stalin by comparing his post war actions to American expansionism in 1898 (Herring 2008, 335). The very same disliked approach favored by Stalin was taken by US President William McKinley in
The main events that caused the Cold War were at the Yalta Conference. Stalin had promised the allies that the USSR would respect the rights of the people in the liberated countries in regards to elect their own post war governments. At the end of the war, the Soviets broke that promise installed Communist puppet governments in the East European countries they occupied.
According to the orthodox view, the Cold War was caused by Soviet aggression in which the USA tried to contain and protect the world by means of the Marshall plan and Truman doctrine. It is however , easy to forget the loss that the Soviet Union experienced .
War Communism, ‘the measures introduced to gear the economy for the war effort’ and the first part of the Bolshevik Economic Policy, represented a turning point for the Soviet Union because it helped the Red Army to win the Civil War; in addition it was the first implementation of Communism anywhere, therefore this was the most significant effect. To defeat the White Army Trotsky developed ways to keep his army well supplied and battle-ready. Food was
According to (Clare, 2002), the cold war was the war of influence between the USA and the Soviet Union. Consequences of the Russian Revolution of 1917 and World War II.
In brief it can be said that the Cold War was waged between the U.S. and the USSR primarily due to the fear of the Western World (and specially of America) about a communist attack, both military and ideological (“Causes of the Cold War in 1945”, n.d.). Moreover, President Truman’s dislike of Stalin, USSR’s fear of the American atomic bomb, the nation’s aversion to the concept and philosophy of capitalism, and its actions in the Soviet zone of Germany, all contributed to the beginning of the Cold War (“Causes of the Cold War in 1945”, n.d.). The policy of aggression embraced by the USSR against Eastern Europe and simultaneously the fear of USSR about an American attack also culminated into the Cold War (“Causes of the Cold War in 1945”, n.d.). USSR had the need of securing its western border and it had the aim of spreading communism globally and these two desires also drew the attention of the Western world, the result of which was the initiation of the Cold War (“Causes of the Cold War in 1945”, n.d.).
