These athletes are a major source of income for their schools and they are not receiving a penny for it. These college athletes deserved to be paid, colleges are using these athletes to get money and they are never given anything but a pat on the back and a good job. College athletes work and train extremely hard to perform at the highest level possible. In most cases, they spend more time training and preparing for their sport than they actually do learning and studying. They put so much on the line to play and they get nothing in return. One of the most popular pastimes in America is watching college sports. Whether it’s football, baseball, or basketball, these student-athletes bring fans, money, and sponsorships to their schools. So why shouldn't these athletes be paid? The answer is that student-athletes should not be paid, because they have the ability to earn scholarships or financial aid, college athletes are paid in other ways than financially, and not all schools have the money to pay them. Ultimately, paying college athletes would ruin the current culture and competitiveness of college sports.

Each year in the United States over 100,000 collegiate student-athletes participate in a variety of different sports and currently they do not receive paychecks for their performances. What would it feel like to work so hard at something you love and are good at, but get nothing back from it. College athletes bring in enough money to the college to be able to get a little something back for the effort it takes. The amount of time college athletes spend on their sport takes away a huge chunk of time that could be used for more time on school work for a better education. Some might say that division 1 athletes are already getting paid by the amount of money going towards their scholarship to attend the school. Also people consider them amateurs and not professionals

We are all aware of the common misconception that college athletes should be paid. However, I believe that college athletes that not only should they not be paid but are undeserving of being paid. There are many things to consider and take into account when mentioning compensation and college athletes. Also college athletics have a huge popularity among Americans over the past few years, more American have turned their heads to watching collegiate sports rather than watching professional sports, to the fact that its way more exciting. This has resulted into increased revenues for the National Collegiate Athletic Association and the other colleges that’s participating with this, in this case the debate of whether college athletes should be compensated beyond their athletic scholarships. Student athletes have worked hard, have dedicated themselves to the sport and also sacrificed their own time for the sport they love.

College athletics are a huge part of the culture of the university and sports. The best of the best high school athletes go on to compete at an even bigger platform and competition through college sports. Universities put in money through recruitment to find the right kind of athlete for their school. These athletes, through all their hard work and commitment, are rewarded different scholarships to continue their sports. At the top level of college sports, athletes receive a plentiful scholarship of full tuition and room and board. That type of scholarship can range from $100,000 to even a $180,000 depending on the school. Other students at the same university, who are not playing sports, are expected to cover this tuition themselves. This large sum encourages athletes to put all their time and resources to the sport that they came to school to play. Even with the scholarship money that is given, some believe that college athletes should be paid to play their sports. This is a problem especially at the highest levels in NCAA football and basketball. NCAA sports have a unique competitive atmosphere that also encourages education; however, that would be lost if college athletes were being paid to play.

If college athletes were to get paid for playing sports then where would that leave their education? Their education would go down the drain because they could care less about school work as long as they are getting paid to play a sport. Student comes first in student-athlete. If a college athlete does not succeed in sports then they would need a skill to fall back on. Not all students will make it to the pros. Students are not professional athletes. Their sports included with their education can possibly be an avenue for them to get to the pros where they then can be paid. College sports are not careers or professions at that point in time. Their education should be first and foremost in their game plan. Worrying about money can distract them from their concentration on their academics which will pay long term dividends. Many college coaches emphasize the importance of education first. Parents and students are paying for a good education preparing for a profitable future. Sports pros don’t and cant guarantee how long their run will last. Then the money is gone especially if they don’t plan ahead.

College athletes more times then not, get the short end of the stick. Their referred to as "Student Athletes" ,but often are crippled with the stereotypes of "dumb jocks" or reckless athletes. When in reality they work twice as hard as the avergage student balancing sports, life, and academics. These athletes need to be rewarded and credited for their courage and perseverance. Yet again they get the short end of the stick, they not only don't get paid but they are also living with no money. Because many athletes are living off of no money or and or coming from conditions where they've had to struggle money from boosters and others that are willing to help them seems like the only way. Then the problem becomes athletes are not only getting
