With Will Grier eligible to play in the opener against Virginia Tech and Jake Spavital at the helm of the offense, the West Virginia University football team could explode for a high-scoring and exciting season.
Entering the 2017 season, the highly touted redshirt junior has high expectations placed upon him.
During his sophomore campaign at Florida, Grier started five of his six games, where he completed 106-of-161 passes for 1,204 yards and 10 touchdowns. In those six games, he threw three interceptions.
Against Tennessee, the 6-foot-2, 204-pound quarterback threw a season-high 283 yards on 23-of-42 passing.
Coming out of high school, Grier was named the Parade National Player of the Year, Maxwell Player of the Year and Tom Lemming

With the loss of Cody Saunders, the Mountaineers are limited at the quarterback position outside of Grier and Chugunov.
Next in line is David Isreal, a transfer from Butler (Kan.) Community College. He is a dual-threat quarterback with an exceptionally strong arm and is extremely athletic.
The 6-foot-3, 175-pound sophomore was forced into the starter role with Butler last season. He threw for 1,841 yards and 13 touchdowns.
However, Isreal was sacked 10 times and threw 12 picks. Coming out of high school, the Blythewood, SC native was lightly recruited.
According to Rivals, he was a two-star recruit. Isreal will have four years of eligibility with the Mountaineers.
While redshirting him seems like the best option, Isreal may see the field sooner rather than later.
After Saunders' career-ending injury, WVU needed another quarterback and giving preferred walk-on Jack Bueltel a shot.
Bueltel is 6-foot, 176-pound quarterback out of Barron Collier High in Naples, Florida. He was a three-year starter at the 6A level.
One plus about Bueltel is his toughness. During a high school game in his senior season, he played through a collapsed lung.
Despite being injured, Bueltel threw for more than 100 yards.
In three years for the Cougars, Bueltel threw for 2,465 yards and 18 touchdowns. He also rushed for 648 yards and 13 touchdowns. As a junior, Bueltel passed for 1,259 yards and nine touchdowns.

Next season in his sophomore year he sat out four games with a high ankle sprain. Before declaring himself eligible for the 2007 National Football League draft, he missed seven games with a broken collarbone. Tragedy struck again before his NFL Scouting Combine workout his half brother was fatally shot. He performed well, although the tragedy and was selected seventh overall by the Minnesota Vikings.
He played his college ball at Michigan State University where he was consider a solid if not great wide-receiver and kick return man. In fact, it was his kick returning abilities that caught the eye of several scouts around the NFL. When his career with the Spartans was completed, he entered the 2012 NFL draft.
In his Junior year, 2012, he was capable of being named the St. Louis Post-Dispatch offensive player of the year after rushing for an impressive 1,802 yards and thirty four touchdowns and receiving twenty passes for 401 yards and scoring six times. While he was a Senior, 2013, he had 3,061 all-purpose yards and fifty total touchdowns, in those fifty touchdowns, he managed to get, 2,155 rushing yards and forty rushing touchdowns. He led the football team to three straight title games, but sadly could not manage to lead his team to victory in any of the games.

After briefly leaving for El Camino Community College to pursue a career at quarterback, the 6-foot-4, 203-pound junior returned to West Virginia University last January and settled in at wide receiver.
