The importance of this issue to the development of social welfare policy is that personal safety falls under the umbrella of social welfare. Female citizens have a right to feel safe and protected, and the violence being committed against women is negating this right for women. Thankfully, the VAWA has recognized the past failure of society to provide protection for women, and so it has been enacted to improve these conditions.
Domestic violence seems to be a never-ending problem from state to state with every state having its fair share of domestic violence. The Texas Council on Family Violence was formed to serve three focal points when dealing with domestic violence in the State of Texas implementing prevention programs that are focused in ending the root cause of domestic violence, providing victim services of domestic violence and promoting support to victims and the violent offenders to help them deal with their issues in domestic violence.
Once the 1980’s came, a lot of different changes took place. If the police were called for help with domestic violence, they no longer ignored it. They would arrest and convict those who were guilty of domestic violence. If we look in today’s society although, some changes has been made on this topic; there are still a lot of work to do to prevent domestic violence and to raise awareness of this inconceivable social problem as we can see in the statistics of the state of South Caroline that makes this state No 1 for deadly violence against woman as was announced by the Washington Times in September 15, 2015.
On the day of the beginning of 2016, Texas Government legalized the citizen to carry a gun to public under Open Carry law. Supporters said, the carry gun to public would help to prevent and reduce crime, but I don't believe it. I think this law makes the job of the security more difficult: how does police officer distinguish between good people and bad people? How the police can keep security in an area where people have guns and are protected to use it? Police officer still encounter such dilemmas, how about citizen to face with these above situations? Thus, many people will choose to fend for themselves and their families by buying a gun and bring it out to the public like everyone else in order to feel less dangerous. Consequently, a number
I took a look at gun control and how society feels about it. I looked at if people thought that you should have a permit to carry a weapon. I looked at age, income and if they owned a gun. This is a small survey that looks at my classmates thought. This survey was conducted by Survey Monkey.
In the year 1910, the Los Angeles Police Department named the first “policewoman” in the country; her name was Alice Wells (Flanagan, 1984, p. 7). Less than 100 years later, in the years 2007 and 2008, there was a combined total of nearly 100,000 females that were sworn in as officers in federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies (Langton, 2010). Over the timespan from 1987 to 2007, there was a great increase in how many women police officers were being sworn in across all three federal, state, and local agencies. All of the women who now hold the title as an officer or a higher position were motivated to continue to break the barrier ever since Lola Baldwin and Alice Wells stepped foot into the realm of law enforcement in the
Shall issue states are states that citizens may apply and be considered by the state for a gun permit which is also known as concealed carry. John R. Lot, is an economist and has received his Ph.D. in economics from UCLA. He claimed "shall-issue" concealed carry laws reduced murders by 8.5%, rapes by 5%, aggravated assaults by 7%, and robbery by 3%, according to a 2000 analysis of FBI crime data”(John R. Lot). This refers to how concealed carry reduces crime and information was reported by the FBI compared to the other states that don’t allow concealed carry. All states need to allow every citizen that qualifies to carry a concealed weapon. Police are there to protect, but are not fast enough. Good citizens with guns can save lives. You need
Second of all, concealed weapons give people the ability to defend themselves in case of an attack. Yet, critics argue, specifically on Armedwithreason.com, that allowing weapons onto premises can result to more guns landing in the hands of criminals, because supposedly criminals are more likely to carry a gun if they suspect their victim is also armed. Despite this idea, it is the right of the people to carry a gun, so that they may protect themselves in case of an attack. Guns resulting in the hands of criminals is the gun shops fault, but that is a whole other debate. If a criminal were to walk into a store armed and threatened to attack, or managed to attack, the victims, so many lives could be saved in that scenario if a person was allowed
Concealed handguns increase safety for the public when properly and effectively trained. However, faced with the call to reduce the number of weapons amongst the public comes due to concerns of public endangerment, excessive risk and improper handling. Yet in review of the statistics these concerns can be mitigated through diligent vetting, training, and the need for an annual qualification to maintain safety, reaction, while increasing responsibility.
Carrying a concealed handgun in public is permitted in all 50 states as of 2013. The entire United States has experienced an increase in CPL (Concealed Permit License) sales after mass shootings including the Sandy Hook Elementary shooting, Colorado Movie Theatre Shooting, and the mass shooting in Oregon Community College, and mass killing spree in Virginia Tech. These incidents have raised the bar for concealed weapons and have led to an increase of overall gun sales. Many people say that carrying a concealed is bad however that is not true if they are used properly and for the right reasons. People should have the right to carry a concealed handgun.
Following the church shooting in Charleston, and the killing of five servicemen in Chattanooga, debate over gun ownership and homicide rates in the United States has begun anew. Less than a month has passed between the two attacks that have shocked the nation.

I agree that in some cases, if the victims have a gun they could defend themselves against armed criminals, but in most cases they can’t. There is a big percent of people in the US that have a gun or more in their house. They argue that they own a those guns just in case someone comes into their homes trying to hurt their family. Most people have their guns lock away in the closed or inside a safe. I think it’s not going to be possible for victims can even to get their guns. If the victims realize their home is being robbed or attacked before they criminals get in, maybe they will have a better chance of chasing out the criminals or defending themselves, but most people realize they have become victims when the criminals is already inside
I would be very interested to hear the reasoning behind a sniper’s perspective of self-defense in a combat zone. I believe that it is a very irresponsible justification for taking a life. I believe self-defense to be the right to prevent suffering force or violence through the use of the reasonable amount of force or violence. Most individuals accept the concept of protecting themselves from harm under the right conditions. Generally speaking, a person can explain self-defense and its use of force directly when responding to an instant threat. I can not see how a highly trained marksman who is two hundred meters away feel justified in killing an unarmed person and then claiming self-defense (Self-Defense Overview, 2017). However, as I continued my research the fascinating concept of “Just” and “Unjust” combatant was revealed in the Innocence, Self-Defense Kill In War. It is the belief that you are fighting in a war in which you feel to be necessary, where there is the need to attack the innocent to affect the guilty. Where the innocent Unjust Combatants may be regarded as Innocent Shields of the criminal; and it is often held that in attacking someone who is screened by an Innocent shield the intent is not for the shield. In a time of war, an individual must intend to kill each Unjust combatant. Therefore killing them all, means killing the guilty as well. The idea is attacking the innocent person part of the intention and means of attacking the criminal. It is this idea that the knowledge that some those that they intended to kill
Domestic violence has been a main issue throughout history and all over the world; it can evidentially affect children, the elderly, women, and even men. Although abuse can affect many individuals, a significant portion of domestic abuse cases are against women. Globally, women are constantly facing physical, social and mental abuse by men and/or their significant others. In past years, the issue of domestic violence has gained the attention of researchers. In fact, studies have shown that it is a global issue negatively impacting the social and health status of individuals, particularly women. A survey of domestic abuse in Canada signifies that 29% of married women have been abused by their partners at least once (Nwosu, 2006). Many argue
