Colour Blind Courage Courage can be found in many different shapes and sizes and in every person if everyone takes the time to dig deep enough inside to find it. Courage is displayed in Harper Lee’s novel To Kill a Mocking Bird. To Kill a Mockingbird takes place in Maycomb, Alabama during the Depression, and is narrated by the main character, a little girl named Jean Louise "Scout" Finch. Her father, Atticus Finch, is a lawyer with high moral standards. Scout, her brother Jem, and their friend Dill are intrigued by the local rumours about a man named Boo Radley, who lives in their neighbourhood but never leaves his house. While Atticus decides to take on a case involving a black man named Tom Robinson who has been accused of rape. Harper Lee illustrates the true meaning of courage through the characters Link Deas, Boo Radly and Atticus Finch. One way Lee shows the true meaning of courage is through the character Link Deas. Link is an employer of Tom Robinson, who is a back man accused of rape, and he attends Tom Robinsons trial. During Tom Robinson’s trial Link stands up and tells the court that he has never had a problem with Tom and he can not see Tom causing any issues: “Mr. Link Deas rose from the audience and announced: 'I just want the whole lot of you to know one thing right now. That boy's worked for me eight years an' I ain't had a speck o'trouble outa him. Not a speck" (Lee 89). This is courageous of Link because he was not called up to the witness stand to
