Batman proves to not only himself but to the city that he does not allow for murder unless it is necessary. If the criminals are not an immediate threat to Bateman, he will let them go. Tolkien addressed heroism in Beowulf regarding the warrior’s traits, as well as his battles and burial. The author of Beowulf defines the hero through Beowulf’s three battles with Grendel, Grendel’s mother, and the dragon. In this poem, each monster possesses a specific quality undesired by heroes. Beowulf battles anger/jealousy, vengeance, and greed/selfishness for the good of his Geat nation. As Beowulf fends off these anti-hero traits, he becomes capable of being a great leader of
Heroes bring a hope to people whom they protect. Heroes bring people joy and bring a sense of relaxation to the people of their society because they play such an important role in lives everywhere. Heroes are complex rather than unembellished because they can fight dragons to defend their kingdom, or create a non-profit foundation to enhance the quality of life for more than 2,000 underprivileged kids. Heroes in our present day can be very complex because a person’s viewpoint on a hero’s life can be a completely different than the way another person looks at that same hero. Thomas Davis Sr. can be extremely comparable to Beowulf but they also have major differences.
Next, Both heroes posses much strength and endurance: Beowulf is said to have swam seven days while fighting off sea-monsters and he tore off Grendel’s arms using just his hands; Batman, too, single-handedly fights off big groups of gangs and criminals on many occasions. Today, a hero is a brave and selfless individual who helped during the September 11th attacks. Out of all the people that died during September 11th, over 400 were first responders. “Over 2,600 people died in the World Trade Center and its vicinity, including a staggering 343 firefighters and paramedics, 23 New York City police officers and 37 Port Authority police officers who were struggling to complete an evacuation of the buildings and save the office workers trapped on higher floors” (“A History of the 9/11 Attacks”). These people are considered heroes because they risked their lives to save others. Facing death was something that probably scared them, but they cared more about the trapped, helpless people inside. Beowulf and the 9/11 responders are similar because they protected people.
Beowulf and Sir Gawain and the Green Knight are tales about two brave heros. While both Beowulf and Sir Gawain are heros in their own stories, both men are portrayed differently. In each story, both heroes possess similar traits such as courage, loyalty and honor. A hero may be unchanging to his values when a situation crosses his path. However, when it comes to comparing these two great men, I would consider Sir Gawain the true hero.

Beowulf and Batman are textbook heroes and thus have similar qualities, but they have differences as well. His success is attributed to skill and insight into the criminal mind. He is called to do good deeds by the needs of others. He is also driven by a desire for revenge on those who killed his parents. “Geats used to say that he has in his handgrip the strength of thirty men." (32) Beowulf is
