Antonio Banderas plays the main character in the exciting and relative film, The 13th Warrior. The 13th Warrior shows many similarities to the story of Beowulf, sharing very similar features that are shown in both of these works. The film portrays the story of Ahmed ibn Fadlan, whom is portrayed by Antonio Banderas. Ahmed ibn Fadlan is a young Arab poet that is living in the area of Bagdad. He is a selfish poet that gets into some trouble by having an affair with the wife of an important citizen from his country, that goes by the name of Sultan. After getting into trouble he was to be banned from his country as a punishment. Getting exhiled places Fadlan in the precesnse of some Scandinavian men who happen to be Vikings. He saw the open land and different hardships that they had to endure throughout the journey. On the way to the kingdom he also learned the ways of Norse. The areas of Hrothgar are being attacked by a group of evil warriors that are referred as Wendol. The warriors arrive to the kingdom, led by the Viking leader, Buliwyf, and are feasted in the great hall. Wigliff, the son of Hrothgar fears that the warriors will take over the kingdom for their own if they beat the Wendol. That night in the great hall the Wendol enter and a great battle commences. Fadlan fights during this first war and kills one from the Wendel group. In the morning after the fight the warriors discover almost no signs of the Wendol remains. Throughout both stories, the scenes demonstrated slightly different ideas that shared the same meaning. The first example that I noticed that was shared between both stories, was the entrances of the story going into the areas in Scandonavia. The leader of the Viking warriors was named Buliwyf, which was very similar to and took the same position of Beowulf, who also led his warriors. The ruler in both stories is both named Hrothgar and there is evils that attack his kingdom are present in both stories. Even though these evils are not the same with them having different physical characteristics, they represent the same terrorizing evil. The warriors in both stories began their stay in the big halls of the villages, where they later met the great evils and had a great battle. Then after the battle there was the last battle with the leader and the mother of the evils, where they go travel to the home of the evil. Once they arrive to where the evil resides, they ensue in a great battle and later die while destroying the evil in the
