In the world of politics, there are two main political parties in the U.S. These two parties are conservatives and liberals. Conservatives are traditionally the Republican Party while liberals are the Democratic Party. Conservatives want to maintain the traditional values and want to conserve existing structure. Conservatives support limited government involvement in the private sphere, lower taxes, and free market (a disadvantage for minorities). Liberals are more “open to progress and highly reliant in the government to solve problems” (Squadrin 4). Liberals support more active role of government, policies to aid minorities and equal opportunity for all human beings. Both parties have opposing views when it comes to economic, political and social issues. Conservatives and liberals have different views when it comes to economic policies. According to Squadrin, author of “Conservatives vs. Liberals, Liberals believe that the “government should interfere and regulate the economy of the nation in order to protect citizens from corporate power” while conservatives encourage a free market where “the government should not regulate the economic system of the nation” (Squadrin 6). Free market is a system where the prices of goods are determined by the buyers and government imposes few or no restrictions. Another example of their economic difference is when it comes to Taxes. Even though they both support low taxes, liberals “believe that wealthy people should pay higher
There are two main political parties you can choose from in the United States, The Democrats and the Republicans. There are also third parties you can choose from. People can choose to be part of any party. We are divided by the left and right side on the political spectrum. The right are more conservative and the left are more liberal. These two political parties show philosophical differences through their viewpoints on major topics. With so many differences between the parties, finding topics or issues upon which constituents agree on can be difficult.
Liberal Perspective: For the liberal’s perspective they believe in equal opportunity and equal rights for everyone. Liberals are mainly democratic, which is why some of the things that democrats believe, they believe as well, mainly because both of those parties think the system should help more. For example, when it comes to homelessness from both a democratic and liberal stand view you can see that they both are in the interest of helping them. However, in a liberal’s eye, they believe that social issues happen because there should be more help from the system as far as funding goes.
The ideals and the composition of liberals and conservatives are radically different at times, and yet these same beliefs work together to make up the basic framework of American political thought. They both have the same goals for prosperity and yet they have polar opposite ways of achieving them. Ideologically, they are at odds with the size of government and the role that it plays. Some want big government that provides for people, while others elect for a small government that does not interfere with the lives of people. As is expected liberals tend to vote for certain issues that conservatives will disagree with and vice versa. Of course the issues are not random, each side will vote for and against particular kinds of issues.
Views between the two major parties of government in the United States have many differences and few similarities. The Republican side of government tends to be more conservative and more for the people’s freedoms. They also support government intervention only when necessary. The Democratic side of government tends to be more liberal and support heavy government intervention. Views between abortion, gay marriage, and many other controversial topics differ greatly between the Democratic and Republican Party.
The American political system is made up of primarily two parties, Democrats and Republicans. These parties go against each-other for many political positions, such as presidency. Each supports and opposes different issues. The Democratic Party supports a bigger government and believes the government should guide the people. They are known as Liberals because typically they like change. The Republican Party supports a smaller government and believes the people should guide the government. They are known as Conservatives because they are in favor of the core laws of this country. Some people do not consider themselves Democratic or Republican. Not all members agree with the majority vote of their party. Each party has a majority
To begin with, economic issue is the most prominent topic that both liberals and conservatives have opposing views on. Liberals believe that a government should handle the economy in order for it to grow. Conversely, conservatives believe in the system of free market, where individuals decide the price, the products to produce, how to produce, and for whom to produce. The reason why conservatives believe that a government should not get involved in the economy is that, the government cannot determine all of the society’s needs, and because there is
In the United States we are divided by the left and right side on the political spectrum; even further divided into political parties such as Republicans, on the right, and Democrats, on the left side. These two political parties show philosophical differences through their viewpoints on major topics such as the economy, separation of church and state, abortion, and gun control.
Conservatives and Liberals are two different political parties that have similarities, and differences. According to the Student News Daily website, Liberals believe in government action to achieve equal opportunity and equality for all. It is the duty of the government to get rid of social problems and to protect civil liberties, and individual and human rights. Conservatives believe “in personal responsibility, limited government, free markets, individual liberty, traditional American values and a strong national defense.” Liberal policies generally emphasize the need for the government to solve problems. Conservative policies generally emphasize empowerment of the individual to solve problems.
Liberals and conservatives greatly differ in opinion. Liberals tend to be more open-minded and believe it is the duty of the government to provide equality to all. Conservatives, on the other hand, are typically more anxious and independent. They often support a small limited government. These two groups shape help shape America in regards to the political system. Liberals and conservatives differ on their opinion of the role of the government and in how they manifest in the media, the court system, and congress.
Many people have a strong belief in what side they take a part of, but some others may not be as informed, thus putting them in the middle of the two sides. A few of the topics that liberals and conservatives usually have different views on include abortion, affirmative action, death penalty, the economy, education, stem cell research, climate change, gun control, homeland security, healthcare, immigration, religion & government, same sex marriage, social security, taxes, and welfare. Although many college students do not have a full knowledge on many of these topics, they do have enough to form an opinion on them. Their opinions on these tops are usually what persuade them to fall under either the liberal or conservative category.
Republicans want to limit the number of social programs and encourage the individual states to be more active in their own social welfare. Democrats feel that more government is better, where the Republicans feel that the individual states should have more power. Democrats favor gun control legislation most of the time. Republicans do not seem as interested in that issue, and many Republicans can be viewed as pro gun advocates. Democrats favor affirmative action for minorities and women. Republicans favor helping the entrepreneur and tend to give tax breaks to big business. Democrats champion the cause of labor unions, while Republicans realizing that union votes are important, at the same time feel that labor unions have too much power and cost big business too much money. The next set of political differences about the issues of capital punishment and abortion rights are quite paradoxical. Democrats favor a woman’s right to choose, at the same time they are against the death penalty and want to rehabilitate prisoners. Republicans, many of them are pro-life as well as in favor of capital punishment and being tough on crime. Democrats want the government to be more involved in public education, and want more money dispersed for student loans. Republicans want the states to take the responsibility for educating their children and also want to provide vouchers as an alternative to public school. This issue is also tied to how Republicans are
Democrats and Republicans are two major parties of the United States. Both of them played the important role in U.S. government, both support endless war, develop U.S. economic and education. However, there are some difference in the belief between each party platform. Democrats believes that government should improve political point of view, economist view, historical viewpoint, and laborer’s view point to make everyone’s lives better, while Republicans tend be conservative initial view point. The most different between two party platforms is their view on the social issues such as climate change, Iran, Islamic state, gay rights, healthcare, abortion, immigration, and money in politics.
Everyone has heard the following words at one time or another "Democrats are liberal, while Republicans are Conservative". Is this really true? In order to resolve this question, two questions must be answered, what do the two terms mean? What is liberal and what is Conservative? Some Democrats are conservative and some Republicans are liberal. In this time of turmoil, Democrats and Republicans must work together to promote the common welfare.
America is occupied with lots of liberals and conservatives which are two distinct beliefs. These two beliefs create controversial opinions in the country economically, politically and socially. Nowadays, most important decisions people make is based on their belief reflecting which belief they would be categorized into. “Conservatives and liberals - just as Republicans and Democrats - have opposing views on several key issues” (Squadrin, 5). Liberals tend to consider everyone’s voices and opinions while conservatives tend to listen to what they want to hear.
During the late 1920’s and 1930’s, the government of the United States followed both conservative and liberal policies. Conservatives policies of the 20th century were small government action and limited regulation of the economy. Liberal policies of the 20th century were regulation of the economy and the use of government for social welfare. The presidents during this time, Herbert Hoover and Franklin Delano Roosevelt (FDR), practiced these policies during their terms. Some of Herbert Hoover’s policies followed liberal ideals and some of FDR’s policies followed conservative ideals, however; Herbert Hoover was primarily a conservative president and Franklin Roosevelt was primarily a liberal president.
