Abraham Lincoln once said, “It is easy to see that, under the sharp discipline of civil war, the nation is beginning a new life.” Lincoln thought of this Civil War as a rebirth or rebuilding of the nation. The leaders of the Civil War were different in many aspects. Abraham Lincoln and Jefferson Davis were two very different people who believed in very different things. Jefferson Davis was a good leader, but he often failed inspire like Abraham Lincoln did.

Abraham Lincoln was the 16th President of the United States of America. He served as President when the country was under war. Abe Lincoln was born in 1806 and grew up in the countryside as a pioneer. His mother died at a young age and he had a sister. His father married a widow that had three children and Abe Lincoln liked her very much. Every day he attended school and worked very hard on his father's farm.

President Abraham Lincoln is famous for his involvement during the Civil War. Standing against slavery, he worked diligently towards the unity of all men. Lincoln involvement started as a lawyer, he provided legal services for those who could not be being able to pay for a lawyer. He also worked as a state legislator for the state of Illinois and served for a term at the House of Representatives. The most memorable speech during his time, the Gettysburg Address. This 270 words, two-minute speech that will go in history as one of the greatest speeches of all time.

Abraham Lincoln is born in the United States of America in 1809. The future president of the United States lived in poverty in a family of 5. His father was uneducated and his mom and younger brother died when he was a kid by diseases. He worked really young with his father and faced what a lot of americans were living at this time. He had the chance to receive some education from his step mother, giving him the ability to read and write. After that, Lincoln began his life in the goal to change the world, and he did. As a president, he abolished slavery and made his best to help his country and his population with many policies. He is known to be someone who isn't scare to take decisions, to be honest and with a lot of humanity.

In the North many people agreed that is was fair to let the slaves be free, but for the south who need slaves for picking cotton were not so happy. People in the South, called the confederates hated the idea of freeing the slaves, and this is how the Civil War started.

When you put the two paragraphs together you can see that where Lincoln took a step back and planned his approach to not only the oncoming war but the presidency itself, Davis decided to bull on through and strive to please his own people while slandering those on the other side of the wall.

There were many different Union Leaders and many Confederate leaders. Such as Jefferson Davis (Confederate) and Abraham Lincoln( Union )They both helped shape our country into what it is today. Both Leaders tried their hardest to command their troops as good as they could. They both made many different impacts on our country.

Abraham Lincoln and Stephen Douglas were the Democratic and Republican candidates for the U.S. Senate in Illinois. Their debates are admittedly the most famous political debates in American history. The biggest topic of debate during this time was slavery, therefore Lincoln and Douglas not only differed in their views on slavery, but also attempted to discredit the other candidate’s views by bringing up past speeches. Slavery was not the only topic during these debates, there were also debates on equality and state power over slavery.

The North and South were very diverse, this led to problems with sectionalism. They started to separate economically, socially, and politically. The North had an industrious society v.s. the South which was agriculturally built on slaves(Doc3). The North was also Democratic while the South was mostly Republican, also, the North believed in a strong federal government, and South believe in states rights. These problems in sectionalism led to the Civil War.

In order to understand the American Civil War, one must know more about the leaders who controlled both sides. As many Americans know, Abraham Lincoln participated in the command of troops on the Northern side of the conflict. On the Southern side, a very influential leader was also present; Nathan Bedford Forrest was a well-known general in the South and was renowned for his brilliant tactics in combat. One is known as the great emancipator of the slaves, the other, as the first leader of the Ku Klux Klan (Biography: Nathan Bedford Forrest, n.d.). The roles could have been greatly reversed, had their upbringings been different. Despite their many differences, these two influential figures had a surprising amount of similarities.

Not only did this man strive to unite the country once again, he also had the responsibility of deciding the fate of Jefferson Davis, the former president of the Confederate States of America. Many Northerns believed Jefferson should at least be imprisoned, if not put to death for his actions. Southerners, on the other hand, viewed Davis as a hero and could not bear the thought of their hero being punished. Wanting to keep the recently re-united country at peace with one another, President Lincoln was left in a bind.

Mr. Lincoln was only known to have a few years of formal schooling he had to work to help support his family. He moved to the capital of Illinois and practiced as a lawyer. This is where he earned his nick name of Honest Abe. He was known to help the common man. He met and married a woman named Mary Todd. They had four sons. One of which passed away with Typhoid fever. He was shot by John Wilkes Booth in Ford’s theater on April 14, 1865 and died the very from a gunshot to the head. He never lived to see the Union win the war with the plans he helped devise. He next day is known in history for his moving speeches. Two of the main speeches are the Gettysburg Address and the Emancipation Proclamation. Both of these are remembered today as turning points in history. Honest Abe was not only our president but a leader in that he felt like he needed to protect our constitution and the rights it afforded us but also protect the Union. He was a level headed man in a time of war and conflict. He was elected to office when the Union was in a state of unrest due to the issue of slavery. Several states succeeded when he was elected to office. This set up a series of events that lead to the beginning of the civil war. The steps that he took forever changed the history of the United States.

During the Civil War Lincoln became quite brilliant with military strategy and an excellent wartime leader. With the Union on the brink of victory Lincoln became a martyr when he was shot and killed by a Confederate sympathizer by the name of John Wilkes Booth. Over time Lincoln became known as one of the greatest Presidents of all time.
