Compare and contrast Macbeth, Macduff, and Banquo. How are they alike? How are they different? Is it possible to argue that Macbeth is the play’s villain and Macduff or Banquo its hero? Is the matter more complicated than that? Macbeth is the “bravest” soldier, very noble, courageous. He is also the honorable Thane of Glamis, but he is not a virtuous one. Macduff is very loyal Scottish nobleman, courageous and is also a Thane of a city. Banquo is a brave, courageous noble general who like Macbeth thinks ambitious thoughts. Also, when Banquo’s ghost came to banquet, Macbeth shows fearing of Banquo and denies Banquo’s murdering. “I do not forget. - Do not muse at me, my most worthy friends; - I have a strange infirmity, which is nothing – To those that know me.” (Shakespeare 3,4,99-102) Macduff’s family, a symbol of innocence, was destroyed because coward Macduff has departed to help to Malcolm, so Macbeth finds him as a traitor, unfortunately, Macduff lefts Lady Macduff with her son unprotected, but knew that it is dangerous to stay at home, as Macbeth was hunting him.
The main interest of the character of Banquo arises from the changes that take place in him, and from the influence of the witches upon him. And it is curious that Shakespeare's intention here is so frequently missed. Banquo being at first strongly contrasted with Macbeth, as an innocent man with a
These are represented by his fear and horror he sees by someone taking him place on the throne. “There is none but Banquo Whose being I do fear, and under him My genius is rebuked, as it was said Marc Antony’s was by Caesar”(Shakespeare 3.1.55-57). In the first act, Macbeth met the witches whose prophecies claimed Macbeth would be made thane of Cawdor and eventually King of Scotland. At the same time, they claimed Banquo, who was with Macbeth, would be the father of kings. Shortly after, Macbeth and Banquo were greeted by two noblemen who announced that King Duncan had appointed Macbeth the new thane of Cawdor for his brave actions. Macbeth became consumed with the witches’ premonitions. Their vision for the future coupled with his ambition drove Macbeth to make choices that ultimately destroyed him. With significant influence from Lady Macbeth, he decided to take action and murder King Duncan. As part of their plan, they get the King’s attendants drunk so they’d black out then they could blame them for the murder. Macbeth ends up killing them the next morning when Duncan’s murder is discovered, pretending he is enraged by their crime. This ultimately led to his demise as Macduff sought revenge and ends up killing Macbeth in battle. This choice of blood and battle to feed his ambitions of

Banquo was his good loyal friend, after he killed him we know that he was out of his mind. Each person he has killed
While the witches prophecies Macbeth would be king, the also said Banquo would be the father of kings, “Your children shall be kings (Shakespeare Act I. SC. At this point in the story Macbeth has murdered Duncan, Duncan’s guards, Banquo, and attempted to murder Banquo’s son, but Macbeth learns that Macduff and gone to find Malcom, one of King Duncan’s sons, to convince him that he is the one who should be ruling. Macbeth saw fit to murder Macduff’s family since he was threatening his throne; but, according to the witches prophesy Macduff happens to be the only one who can kill Macbeth since he was “QUOTE ABOUT HOW MACDUFF WAS BORN”. Macbeth is a general in the scottish army of king Duncan. At the beginning of the play when Macbeth was returning from a battle that he had won, Macbeth and his friend Banquo met three old witches that told them strange prophecies. The witches greeted Macbeth as the thane of Glamis and that was his present tittle, the witches also greet him as the thane of Cawdor and also as the future king. The witches also predict that Banquo will never be a king but that his sons will be kings. Within a short period of time, a messenger sent by king Duncan came to announced that Macbeth has been crowned the thane of Cawdor.

They told him that he should beware Macduff, that no one “born of woman” can harm him, that no one shall harm him “until Birman Wood moves to the Dunsinane Hill”, and that Banquo’s descendants will be king. Macbeth listened to the witches because he believed they’re there to help him. To heed their warnings, Macbeth sent a man to kill Macduff’s family and servants. But it was too late; Macduff had already began plotting Macbeth’s dethroning. When the news of his family’s deaths, Macduff’s hatred for Macbeth grew enormously.
In the beginning, King Duncan is faced with an invading army and fortunately has a prodigious noble on his side- Macbeth, the Thane of Glamis. Macbeth with the assistance of his friend Banquo steered Duncan’s forces to triumph. King Duncan happy with the victory, states that "What he has lost, noble Macbeth has won." (27. 75). Soon after, King Duncan declares Macbeth the new Thane of Cawdor. Macbeth can be summarized into a character that is strong
One person who is Macbeths opposite is Banquo. He makes Macbeth look like a really bad and horrible person. Banquo is very self-less he thinks of others people but Macbeth is very selfish he only thinks of himself. During the play these two characters become more and more different. Macbeth is a very ambitious character. After he became the Thane of Cawdor he is becoming mad about a prospect of becoming king. Banquo is much stronger then Macbeth. He has a strong personality he is very equitable and respects other people. Macbeth on the other hand respects no one and he murders anyone that doesn’t respect him or anyone who gets in his way like Duncan and Banquo. When Macbeth and Banquo are leaving the witches Banquo is told that he won’t be
In this play there are three most important characters, Macbeth, Banquo and Macduff. They have some different and alike things about their characteristic. They all conducted important roles. Some of the characters conducted a villain role and some conducted a more brave role. Macbeth was once good but turned evil and he is a scottish general. Banquo is general in the scottish army and loyal to the king. Macduff is thane of fife and Macduff wants what is best for his family and country. I am going to compare and contrast these three important characters in my essay.
The story of Macbeth is a heartbreaking story in which a valiant hero, known as Macbeth, is transformed into a corrupt and wicked ruler. He ends up driving himself so insane from his own guilt of murdering others that he actually makes his guilt so obvious that he ends up getting killed. The one who slays Macbeth and saves Scotland from Macbeth’s terrible reign is a noblemen known as Macduff. It is fair to say that Macduff was in Macbeth’s same position before he came to power in which he had killed the traitor and become a hero. Even though the story ends with Macduff killing the wicked and villainous ruler that is Macbeth and becoming the hero of the story, Shakespeare instead foreshadows his tragic fall, rather than continuing the heroic

The captain reports to Duncan and his son Malcolm of how “all’s too weak; /For brave Macbeth(well he deserves that name)” and Duncan is eager for Macbeth’s victory as he is a “valiant cousin, worthy gentleman” (I,2 17-27). Slaying a traitor for Scotland, Macbeth was seen as a hero and Duncan rewards Macbeth for his bravery. However, Macbeth’s nobility fades as he meets destruction from being too captivated for kingship. While returning to Scotland, Macbeth and his friend, Banquo, encounter witches claiming prophecies of Macbeth becoming king. After ensured king of Scotland by the witches’, Macbeth is tempted to take the crown. Macbeth whispers to himself while meeting with other lords and Duncan, wanting the “stars, hide your fires; /Let not light see my black and deep desires”(I, 4, 55-58) After being granted Thane of Cawdor, Macbeth became more motivated to become King. While
