Many people, in the course of their life, will have a feeling of uncertainty and trust. In the book Before and After, the parents of Jacob (Ben and Carolyn Reiser) begin to get the feeling of uncertainty and lose trust in their son, Jacob. Ben and Carolyn Reiser first go into denial (as do many people when they are unsure whether something is true or a lie) when they heard the suspicion of their son being accused of killing his girlfriend. Plenty of people, including me, know the feeling of being lied to or thinking a close person is untrustworthy. I can relate the feeling Ben and Carolyn Reiser have toward their son, in dealing with accusing someone of being untrustworthy. My relation to this is with my ex-girlfriend. The parents of Jacob had that feeling during this book. I was told by many people of her unfaithfulness, like how Carolyn was called by a few people to talk about Jacob. “The first call was her friend Annie Dineen, full of concern and sympathy. The book that I connect to Before and After is Homeboyz. Homeboyz is written by Alan Lawrence Sitomer. These books create similar feeling while reading. They also have the characters have similar feelings. Homeboyz is about a 17 year-old boy named Dixon Theodore Anderson, nicknamed Teddy. In the book, Teddy’s sister, Tina, is shot in a drive-by on accident by some of the town gangsters. Teddy feels confused and doesn’t know what to do. In Before and After, Carolyn feels confused as well. “With no way to enter the problem, she sat now, elbows on the table- barred outside, blank, confused. This was an unfamiliar way to feel, as if she’d taken a blow to the head, or was struggling to wake up early in the morning, while it was still dark out.” (Rosellen Brown
