Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone is both an amazing book, released in 1997, and movie, released in 2001. The film attempts to incorporate the book as best as possible. However, there is almost no way for every single detail to be apart of the movie as well as the book. Although all of the die hard Harry Potter fans would love an exact comparison of the book to the movie, it would be way too long. Nonetheless, the film and the novel do have many similarities but not too many major differences.
The movie and book start out with Professor Dumbledore and McGonagall just outside of Number 4 Privet Drive when they “give” the newly orphaned Harry Potter to his Aunt and Uncle Dursley. The entire exposition of the film is almost exact to the

The book states that there were that Each major faculty member – Professors Sprout, Flitwick, McGonagall, Quirrell, and Snape – has offered a protection to the Philosopher's Stone in regard to their subject. Sprout's challenge is Devil's Snare. Flitwick enlarged hundreds of keys and charmed them so that they would fly around the room; only one fit the door to the next room and to capture it one would have to fly on a broom. McGonagall made a life-size Wizard's Chess game. Quirrell offers a troll to guard the next room. Snape made a logic riddle that incorporates seven potions, three of which are poison, two of which are nettle wine, one of which returns the drinker to the previous room, and the last of which advances the drinker to the next and final room. However, the movie, for length reasons, does not include Quirrell’s troll and Snape’s poison. Both the novel and film bring Harry to the climax where Professor Quirrell is found looking into the Mirror of Erised craving the sorcerer’s stone. Quirrell then forces Potter to give the stone to the professor. However, Harry was quick to realize that if he touched the combined Professor Quirrell and Voldemort, his body would turn to ash. While attempting to choke Harry, Harry uses his ability and gets free. In the long run, the climax of both the novel and movie are similar but there are some contrasts that are minor to the …show more content…
In the Hogwarts infirmary, Professor Dumbledore explains that when Harry's mother died to save his life, this act left him with a magical protection which saved him from Quirrell and Voldemort. The Philosopher's/Sorcerer's Stone is destroyed, meaning Nicholas Flamel will die. This happened in both the film and novel. Although there are several minor differences, they don’t affect the plot.
All in all, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone Book and Film are extremely similar. This is probably so because people fell in love with the book and the directors wanted the same feeling in the movie as well. Although there may be some differences, none of them changed the plot
For instance, in the book Joppy knew Albright; Albright knew Todd Carter; Todd Carter knew Richard McGee as well as Matthew Terrell whereas in the movie every character denied knowing each other except Albright and Joppy. Another noticeable difference is that in the book Frank Green, Daphne’s brother ends up murdered and in the movie he lives and they both end up moving. The third noticeable difference is a character name change from the book to the movie; Matthew Teran in the book is Matthew Terrell in the movie and he ends up being murdered in the book whereas at the end of the movie he’s running for mayor. A fourth noticeable difference is the pier scene. In the book Albright and Easy meet at the Santa Monica pier and in the movie it is the Malibu pier. And the last most noticeable difference between the book and the movie is that Mouse knows Daphne Monet or shall we call her by her real name Ruby Hanks; however, in the movie the audience never finds that out. In the movie the only true thing you get to know about Daphne is that she is both black and white. Therefore, due to the many differences between the book and the movie it is confusing to the audience since it is almost like dealing with two different stories because of the plot inconsistencies.
The first major difference between the movie and the book is how quickly the movie reveals some of the flaws of the main character Socrates Fortlow. In fact the movie starts with Socrates appearing
There are also many similarities, or else it wouldn't be The Chronicles of Narnia. The similarities and differences can be due to artistic differences for instance how one person interprets something may not be how another interprets it, budget reasonings, or it may just simply have to do with a time line of the filming. Seeing as a majority of films are not made by the author of the book, it can be extremely hard for a director and movie writer to completely capture the book on film. Another thing that could make it hard to transcribe the book to film is
The plot and the setting of book and movie are very similar. There was a lot of thins borrowed from the book, but there was a lot changed as well. The movie followed the plot of book very closely and portrayed the setting of the book very well. A lot of the dialogue was borrowed and spoken directly as it was in the book.
Both share the same plot, and there are very little differences between the two. These are a few of the differences that I was able to notice between the book and the movie. There are several others throughout the story, but they are all just as minute and in the end they have no effect on the outcome of the story. Overall, I was very impressed with the movie and it was very true to the book. I have seen my share of movies that were adaptations from books that did not do the book justice, but this one is almost exactly like the book, so it was very
A minor difference between the movie and the book was concerning the scene about Sir Henry going to the moor. In the book he was pretty upset that people were trying to keep him from going there, but in the movie he showed the least bit of emotion. This was not a major impact on the story but it definitely added character to Sir Henry. In the movie Sir Henry was somewhat timid and in the book that scene showed he was not afraid to stand up for himself.
Both the novel and the film share indistinguishable qualities. For example,They both have the same places as the novel. There were the DX,Tasty Freeze, the lot,the church, and the characters houses.Since they had the same places the same things happened. They have the same places so,they have the same scenes. However, they seem identical, they have a lot of differences.
Foremost, it is very recognizable that the overall flow of the story is same, but most of the plot events are not the same. Though, there were same events happening in both novel and the movie. For example, in both
You compare and contrast, the movie from the book an example would be when in the movie thresh finds clove into the cornacopia because she found rue's death humorous. But in the book thresh finds clove and stones her head.Things to compare are in both the movie and the book is clove dies by thresh. That's the comparison but,the difference is the way she died. When Katniss receives the “mockingjay” pin she in the book gets it from Madge Undersee. But in the book she gets it from Mrs.undersee.
The film Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone would fall into Chapter 29 of Roger Hickman’s Reel Music: Exploring 100 Years of Film Music (Second Edition). This is because the chapter is titled, “Blockbusters Fantasy and Adventures” and the film is set in a fantasy world where magic exists and the main character, Harry Potter goes through many adventures. The genre of the film is fantasy and adventure and, according to imdb.com, the film has won multiple awards including, a Saturn Award, a BMI Film & TV Awards, Young Artist Awards, and many many more (imdb.com). Additionally, J. K. Rowling was the mastermind author behind the entire Harry Potter series and there are no other versions of this film as of now.
A movie that came out in 2002 was Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone. This movie was based off the best-selling novel, which was written in 1997 by J.K. Rowling, called Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone. If you were to read this book and watch the movie you would find many differences, but the main difference between the two is that the book gives more information to the reader than the movie gives to the viewer. If someone was to watch the movie instead of reading the book, that person would not be able to have an accurate perception of the book because so many things in the book are changed in the movie or parts are left out of the movie completely. This is mainly because the book has more characters and chapters, which are
Harry Potter has lots of differences between the movies and books. Even if they may appear similar on the surface, they are very dissimilar once you look beyond the outer similarities. The best movie/book to contrast is the first movie of the deathly hallows and the book, mainly because it has the greatest similarities between the book and the movies. The possible reason why the movie has the least amount of major differences is because, It was split into two parts which allowed it to remain more loyal to the original text. There are ten differences between them but there are some noticeable differences which do not contract very much from the overall quality of the movie.
One major difference in the movie that was not in the book was the starting scene of the movie was set in the moor with Sir Charles being attacked by the Hound. In the book the starting scene
Many people have watched the magical movies of Harry Potter, but, with the books being longer than the movies, how much magic was lost in translation? To answer this question, I want to go over what the bigger differences are between the films and movies. While the overall plot stayed the same, there were plenty of changes made for the movie adaptation which I believe made the books much better by comparison.
Have you ever read the Harry Potter series? I bade you to read the Harry Potter series. I have three reasons why you should read the novel, and they are: if you like magic, if you like wizards and witches, if you like suspense, then read the Harry Potter series. However, if you haven’t read the series, here is a brief description of the first book of the novel: “The Fantasy Novel, ‘Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone’, By J.K. Rowling is about a boy named Harry Potter who was a one year old that was left on the doorstep of his mother’s sister’s house, (Petunia Dursley). His Aunt and her husband, Vernon Dursley, accepted Harry. Eleven years later Harry Potter receives a letter from one of the best schools of Witchcraft and Wizardry named Hogwarts, a school for magic people. When Harry finds out he is a wizard, he sets off for Hogwarts, where he finds that he is very famous because of his lightning shaped scar and his great Quidditch skills. He also meets many kind people and his very first best friends, named Ronald Weasley and Hermione Granger. Harry, Ron, and Hermione survive all the way to the end of the novel, where they discover that the Sorcerer’s Stone is about to be stolen, so Harry Ron, and Hermione try to save the stone. Finally Harry Potter alone reaches the stone where he meets the thief of the stone, the Dark Lord. There he most importantly finds a path he must take later in the series to overtake the Dark Lord, if he could survive his destiny.” After reading
