A movie that came out in 2002 was Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone. This movie was based off the best-selling novel, which was written in 1997 by J.K. Rowling, called Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone. If you were to read this book and watch the movie you would find many differences, but the main difference between the two is that the book gives more information to the reader than the movie gives to the viewer. If someone was to watch the movie instead of reading the book, that person would not be able to have an accurate perception of the book because so many things in the book are changed in the movie or parts are left out of the movie completely. The book uses these faculty members to give an exciting look at the school and how it is ran, but by not having them in the movie the storyline is able to give more information on more important teachers like Dumbledore and Professor McGonagall. Hermes is Percy’s, Harry’s friend, owl. The owl is another example of how the book gives more background on the characters than the movie does. At the beginning of classes many students’ names are called out in the book. For example, Terry Boot, Hannah Abbott, and many other students’ names were called at the Sorting Hat’s ceremony, but in the movie only a couple of students are called out because of time restraint. The book is able to have a very profound way of keeping the reader entertained by having many exciting chapters like when Harry Potter battled Professor Quirrell, and the movie tries to keep the story exciting by deleting some chapters that the producer considered “not so important” to the storyline. On the other hand, the movie is shortened in a way of learning all the basics of the story and in an exciting visual way. The fact is that all of the chapters and all of the parts of the chapters were important to the storyline because without that extra information the reader is left without a feeling of complete knowledge of the plot.
