Comparing King Lear And Mitch Albom's Tuesdays With Morrie

The attainment of knowledge is an experience that is only found through suffering, In William Shakespeare’s “King Lear” and Mitch Albom’s “Tuesdays with Morrie”, the protagonists suffered from tribulations to attain wisdom. Lear and Morrie found different insights on death, love, family and life. Morrie’s outlook was positive; unlike Lear’s, which was negative. Despite being very different in character, King Lear and Morrie came to acquired true wisdom by experiencing death.
It is important for a person to surround themselves with family and friends. Having trustworthy and loyal people is also vital. Lear’s arrogance had ultimately encouraged the mistrust of his wicked daughters. As he explains, “Which of you shall we say doth love us most? / That we our largest bounty may extend / Where nature doth with merit challenge” (Shakespeare I i 53-55 ).

King Lear’s poor decisions lead to him becoming a wretched man. This resulted in him to reject his youngest daughter and gave everything to his disloyal daughters. Likewise, he ended up regretted the actions that he did to his youngest daughter.
. “This feather stirs; she lives. If it be so, / It is a chance which does redeem all sorrows / That ever I have felt” (Shakespeare V iii 267–268).
As a result, Lear wanted to ask for forgiveness to Cordelia, but it was too late. Morrie does not like to live in a life with regrets. To cope, he looks for forgiveness. He believed that one cannot “get stuck on the regrets of what should have happened... Forgive yourself. Forgive others... Not everyone gets the time that I’m getting" (Albom 166-167).To Morrie forgiving others mistakes helps to get rid or the need of holding regrets. This can allow for a person to have more peace.
