Comparing Liberty, Moral, And The Puritans In The United States

In the 21st century the American people have the choice to do whatever they want because they are free. Even though the American people have freedom we do have laws to keep us in order. John Winthrop’s, Speech to the Massachusetts General Court, explains that there are two types of liberty “Natural” and “Moral”. “Natural” liberty, or acting without restraint, suggested”a liberty to [do] evil”. “Moral” liberty meant “a liberty to [do] that only which is good.” (Foner,30). As of that statement we can establish that the Puritans and the American people were not so different after all. I agree with John Winthrop that there is a division between liberty, because it depends on how people see it, you can have the freedom to do as you please but
