Comparing The Empires Of The Mongolian Empire And The Roman Empire

Some people would say the Mongols were a key development to civilization. However, the progress they made is nothing compared to their cruelty and the process they used to conquer the majority of Asia and parts of the Middle East. The Mongols were originally a small, nomadic tribe that originated from the steppes of Central Asia. The tribe placed little value on objects, considering they moved around in yurts and hardly settled. Led by Genghis Khan, they conquered land worth double the size of the Roman Empire. The Mongols were greedy, bloodthirsty barbarians who had little to no regard for human life. They went to unthinkable lengths to conquer land while destroying countless ancient cities.

The Mongol Empire had many impacts on modern day Asia and other parts of the world. Genghis Khan led an empire from the steppes of Asia during the 13th century, called the Mongols. They conquered a lot of land, from to Korea to Poland, and also from Vietnam to Syria. Because they ‘terrorized’ much of Asia, they were known as barbarians. They were thought to live beyond civilization, and known as evil. The Mongolians of the Asian Steppe had a negative impact on the world during their rule of the Asian continent from 1206 to 1368 by influencing violence, destruction, and the falling of cities.

During the early thirteenth century Chinggis Khan and his following successors helped forge various tribes in to a powerful alliance that built the largest empire the world has ever seen. The Mongolian empire reached great in size in such a short period of time. This was basically because of the sturdy Mongol army and many efficient policies the Khan family established. The Mongols were very knowledgeable in military tactics. There empire had a strong sense of unity, helping the empire get so great so rapidly. There allies also contributed to the Mongolian empire. By the time of Chinggis Khan's death in 1227, he had laid the foundation of a vast and mighty empire, which continued to grow with his tactics set in stone.

The Mongols had many positive traits to them. For example, they claimed more than 4,860,000 square miles of land. This is more than the land acquired by Alexander the Great and Cyrus the Great combined (Doc 1). Besides the size of the empire, the advancement that the Mongols

The Mongol Empire was the largest continuous land empire in history, taking control of many Afro-Eurasian societies in the thirteenth and fourteenth century. Not only were the Mongols militarily powerful, they were also administratively powerful. The Mongols had a major impact on societies of Afro-Eurasia during this time period because their conquests ruined cities, their cultural diverse population adopted controlling positions, and their administrative efficiency promoted economy.

Many historians have different views on whether the Mongols had a positive or negative affect on the world during their time period. Over the course of their rule the Mongols had a couple of powerful leaders that brought different views and ideas of what an empire should look like, and how it should be run. Genghis Khan ruled from 1206 to 1227 A.D. He brought great military strengths that helped them conquer a lot of land. After his death in 1227 A.D. many rulers had come and gone. In 1271 A.D. Genghis’ grandson took charge. He had a different approach to ruling the empire. Unlike Genghis he was not a military leader, but rather a “business man” that helped increase foreign trade. Overall the Mongolians of the Asian Steppe had a positive impact on the world during their rule of the Asian continent from 1206 to 1368 by influencing trade, inventions, and unification amongst China.

Two of these places are still here, but the other was taken over and is no longer in existence. Though these places are old, they have played a big part in the growth of humanity. They have played a major part in our culture, religion, and everyday activities. Many of the things that we do today are based upon what they did way back in these times. Without Rome, China, and Persia: Do you think we would be the same as we are today? They are all different, but they have one thing in common, they helped evolve the human species.

The Mongols were nomadic pastoralists who originated in the Eurasian steppes but eventually conquered the largest contiguous empire in history. The first ruler Genghis Khan was able to unite the loosely-bound nomadic clans in 1206 AD and begin seizing land through ingenious military tactics such as base-10 warrior organization, trickery, and terror. Later, his grandson Kublai Khan continued conquering new land and adding it to their vast yet relatively decentralized government. Although there were a few positive effects of Mongol rule, they still had an overall negative impact on Eurasia because of the large quantities of deaths they caused and their weakening of Chinese power in their own government.

They started a lot of things that governments do today. Like the fact that they were religiously tolerant. Like in document 4, it states, “An important legacy of the Mongols’ reign in China was their support of many religions. This evidence shows that they were religiously tolerant. This would mean a lot less conflicts and people would want to settle in this land.

In order for the Mongolian Empire to thrive, trade needed to be dominant throughout Eurasia so they could get basic resources. At the same time they had full control over China which expanded their empire even though they had to sacrifice many resources. They restricted religious rights and dismantled their Civil Service system. They also enforced laws that forbid intermarriage and the Chinese from learning the Mongolian language. They were also violent to others especially during their invasions. However, under all the brutality they helped do some great things for Eurasia. Thus the Mongolian empire had a positive effect on Eurasia because of the Pax Mongolica, the support and spread of religions, and the inventions created by the Chinese.

The Roman Empire lasted from 201 BC to 476 AD and conquered many lands bordering them, including Mediterranean and covered all of western Europe and half of Britain. On the other hand, the Mongol empire lasted from 1206 AD to 1386 AD and conquered much of Russia, Islam, and many of the Slavic peoples. Their conquests were swift and brutal, often leaving thousands dead behind them and successfully becoming the civilization who had conquered the most land. Although both of the two empires were highly successful, but in my opinion, the Roman empire was more successful because they lasted much longer, was ruled by many successful and powerful leaders such as Julius Caesar and Alexander the Great, and also because it left behind many positive

The Roman and Han Empires were among the greatest empires in history. The Han prospered in 202 BCE - 220 C.E and the Roman Empire in 27 BCE- 476 C.E. By the early second century CE, Rome controlled the entire Mediterranean coastline and had to use military force to set up borders against their adversaries, the Huns. During the Han, colonies were established in Korea and military campaigns were mounted in order to control their neighbors, the Xiongnu. Both of these empires had similar rises by using strong military power and expansion, which helped them both strive in economic trade. Although there are many similarities in the reasons that contributed to the rise of these empires, there are also several contrasting reasons for their decline. These two empires differ because Rome allowed plague to end their empire while the Han kept ruling.

In 1200 a Mongol leader by the name of Temujin rose to power. Under his rule the Mongol Empire flourished and conquered many enemies and occupied a large amount of land. Throughout his reign the Mongols continued to be a major power house.

The Mongols were excellent in learning from obstacles, doing without, and making the best out of what was given with them. Their ingenious thought process led to them being one of the most successful empires of all time. Unlike no other empire of their time, their war-like way of life is what brought them to the top and is what they’ve left in history. The rise of the Mongol Empire can be attributed to a famous emperor, Genghis Khan. He led his armies through the Great Wall of China and crushed the Jin Dynasty. “In the twelfth and thirteenth centuries the Mongols were far from more barbarous than their neighboring tribes. For this reason Genghis Khan, as the cultivated Chinese put it, was nothing more nor less than a barbarian. However, this barbarian possessed a number of qualities that enabled him to become one of the greatest conquerors in the history of the word” (Hartog p.139). Unfortunately, he has a sudden death in 1227 while in the war against the Xia Dynasty. Before his passing Genghis ordered his second son, Ogedei Khan, as his inheritor to split his empire into four khanates between his children and grandchildren to complete his invasion. Many years pass after Genghis Khan died, and several Mongol leaders attempted to continue the mission of the Great Khan. It isn’t until his grandson Kublai Khan, succeeded in creating a more powerful domain during his establishment of the Yuan Dynasty
