George says that he and Lennie is cousins even though he knows it's not true. He also says that Lennie was kicked in the head, by a horse. He explains this because when there were having a conversation with the boss, Lennie didn't answer any questions that the boss ask. Infinitely George decided to answer for him because Lennie seems frightened of the boss. Then after he notice he wasn't going to talk and that the boss notice that something wasn't right. He decided to say that Lennie wasn't very bright and that he got kicked in the head by a horse so that the boss wouldn't be suspicious of them
“Warren Lee Hill, a man with an IQ of 70, Was put to death Tuesday despite international protests that Georgia was executing a man with a child’s intellect.” Both Warren Hill and Lennie Small from John Steinbeck’s Of Mice and Men, suffered the same fate of death. Both men suffering from Mental Retardation. George Milton murdering Lennie and, Georgia wrongfully “executing” Warren. Some people believe George was justified because he killed Lennie out of love, and it was the right thing to do for that certain moment in time. However, the opposite is true because George was not justified and should be punished for killing Lennie because he didn’t let the police handle the issue, Lennie is like a child in his own way and shouldn’t face death, And they could have just locked him in jail or prison instead of taking a life.
Nelson Mandela, the first black president of South Africa, once stated that “we owe our children, the most vulnerable citizens in our society, a life free of violence and fear.” Mandela’s belief reveals that society has a great influence on the minds of its youth. If children are protected from a life of violence, they will grow up to be a strong, healthy, and ideal representation of our world; in contrast, if the youth are exposed to violence and fear, they themselves will become destructive. Books, for instance, are a common influence on the youth due to their varying content. A case in point of books’ effects on young adults is the controversy over John Steinbeck’s Of Mice and Men because
The rabbit was telling the truth he should of just listen to him. but George was trying to put him to rest because he was struggling in life.If he would not killed him they would killed him and Lennie. The rabbit was telling him the true. But if Lennie was still alive the cops would been looking for them because they are not supposed to be there. Lennie trust George because in the past they been together that the only friend that Lennie had. George has always told Lennie if he was in trouble to hide be hind a bush. Also in chapter 1 there was a snake trying to kill a rabbit but now on chapter 6 the rabbit was trying to kill the snake because he wanted to get revenge. When George tells Lenni “Gonna do it soon ...Ever’body gonna be nice to you.
In life you make many sacrifices, for loved ones, friends and the community… Sometimes there are sacrifices that might hurt a lot, but they are made to protect others. George’s choice to shoot Lennie after he had unintentionally killed Curley's wife, had its own personal reason.
Although it would seem George betrayed Lennie’s trust, George was justified in his decision to shoot Lennie because of Lennie’s actions and safety.
Nobody but the reader knows what happened between Lennie and Curley's wife in the barn. George was not there. He only saw the girl's dead body. To everyone it looked like a case of murder in connection with an attempted rape. What actually happened, as we know, was different. Lennie got panicked when Curley's wife started screaming for help. The men were playing horseshoes right outside the barn. He was desperate to make her stop struggling and screaming. It is noteworthy that something similar happened in Weed, but that time George arrived on the scene in time to intervene. The fact is that Lennie's crime was probably more like accidental manslaughter, since there was no intent to commit murder, or to commit rape, for that matter. But he would have no way of defending himself in a court trial because he didn't have the capability of explaining the circumstances, and there was nobody else to tell what actually happened. It looked much worse than it was. If it ever came to a trial--which was highly unlikely--the prosecutor would have to insist that Lennie was trying to rape the girl. It would be hard to establish that he was trying to murder her.
Human’s are individuals who thrive when met in cooperation with another, and individuals who can’t thrive when met with distractions that stop them. The book “Of Mice and Men” had many features of conflict that contrasted each other. Although Lennie made George feel special, Lennie’s accidental mistakes made George question himself of whether he should stay with Lennie or go on with life by himself.
When Lennie talks about how George has never hurt him, he was proven wrong later in the story. They were both having a conversation of how they wanna live on the "fatta the lan".When George heard the voices getting closer he got the gun and shot Lennie in the back of the head.He shot him in that spot so he wouldn't have to suffer.I think George did the right thing by killing Lennie. He had killed Curley's wife and he had killed a puppy. And George only did it because he didn't want him to suffer or get punished. They would have put him to jail or even taken him to an insane asylum.George did it for his own good.Lennie was pretty upset though but he knew he did the right thing. When Lennie and the imaginary rabbit were having the argument, the rabbit
George is Lennie’s best friend and his only friend. He looks out for Lennie and takes care of him. George is a much smaller guy than Lennie but is like Lennie’s older brother. He does all the thinking for Lennie; he feeds Lennie, and does what’s best for Lennie. Unlike Lennie, George is all there in the head that is why George watches over Lennie and protects him. George does what’s best for Lennie.
The essential question is based off the book “Of Mice and Men” by John Steinbeck. Should mentally disabled people be punished for crimes in the same way that non-disabled people are? Mentally disabled people should not be punished for crimes in the same way that non-disabled people are because mentally disabled people are mentally challenged and non-disabled people are not. Mentally disabled people can’t think and act for themselves. They need people to think and act for them. Non-disabled people don’t need people to think and act for them because they can think and act for themselves. Mentally disabled people and non-disabled people are different compared to each other
Throughout the history of the world, people with mental disabilities have been wrongly punished for their behavior. Unfortunately, this continues even today. Lennie Small in John Steinbeck’s novel Of Mice and Men along with Miguel de Cervantes’s Don Quixote from The Ingenious Gentleman Don Quixote of La Mancha are both examples of this unjust treatment. Don Quixote sees himself as a gallant knight in a world where knight-errantry has become extinct. On the other hand, Lennie is a child in an adult’s world. Due to not seeing the world as it is “supposed” to be, both are punished by the people for their misguided actions.
When Steinbeck describes the barn at first it was quiet and nature taking its course, but after it had a more darker atmosphere and everything was more sad and depressing. Steinbeck also talked about the horses because no matter what environment they are in they did the same thing they always did. I think the author is trying to portray Lennie as a horse as he put it in that way in chapter 1 and no matter what he does the same mistake over and over again no matter what it is.
George and Lennie are two men on a journey yearning to find a place of their own. This movie portrays two characters reaching for the american dream and tells about the struggles along the way. John Steinbeck's novel Of Mice and Men is an extraordinary book and is an American classic. The movie is nothing short of the book and is highly recommended for teenagers and adults.
The story of Of Mice and men takes place in John Steinbeck’s birth town Salinas, a town in California close to the Salinas River and Salinas Valley. Being born and raised in an agricultural society managed by Capitalism, Steinbeck witnessed the effects it had on the working class. Jay Parini, the writer of John Steinbeck – A Biography, tells us that John Steinbeck sifted through his whole life, all of his experiences, while writing this book. So of course when Steinbeck wrote Of Mice and Men it easily assumed that he was greatly influenced by his own experiences and personal interactions with migrant laborers. (Parini)
This stanza is from a poem called “To a Mouse,” written by Robert Burns in 1785. This poem is where the title of a short story, Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck comes from. In the story Of Mice and Men, the protagonists, George and Lennie, are two good friends who do everything together, whether that be work or travel related. Lennie is a kind-hearted, strong and mentally disabled adult who relies on George for everything, whether that be money or food. Also due to these disabilities, he often forgets things from the name of his aunt to the previous events in his life. He likes to pet things from mice to puppies, so when he is petting a woman’s hair, with her permission, and does not want to stop, grabbing onto her head and snapping her head
