Hannah Williams 1st period October 6, 2017 Poem one, which is called “Ducle Et Decorum Est” and it’s written by Wilfred Owen. This poem is about a soldier who is vividly describing his journey as a soldier in World War I and all of the horrendous events that he recalls. The second poem is called “The Charge of the Light Brigade,” is written by Alfred Tennyson. Tennyson is writing about 600 soldiers riding into the battle of death, but he was not a soldier in World War I. Due to the authors lack of experience in dealing with war, we are going to see a lot of different opinions and views on the topics when we compare the two poems.

We know that this author is against war, he does not mention anything positive about his time in service, it’s like he sees the fight as hopeless and not worth the pain he is having to endure.
“The charge of the Light Brigade” is written by an author that was not in the war. Since this man was not in the actual battles he was saying things like they were not afraid to die. He was saying that 600 of them died and made it almost like it was no big deal, that it was such a great thing. In the first poem, the solider would disagree that 600 men dying is a great deal, mentally and emotionally. In the second poem, we see how no brutality is described. He turns every death into such an honor like every man wanted to go fight and even die for their country. He was saying that this army would not break they were strong, but we know if he would’ve been able to feel what the soldiers were feeling he would’ve had a very different.
The two poems compare because they are both two men from the World War I era, describing their input on the battles. Though not said in a positive light in poem one, there

Hannah Williams 1st period October 6, 2017 is bravery performed by soldiers in both of the stories. No matter if it was because the men wanted to or because they were enlisted it took a lot of bravery regardless to have to go fight and kill. They also both emphasize that war is an ugly event.
