Edge of Heaven is a two scene film that connects as one, “Yeter’s Death” and “Lotte’s Death.” Both scenes focus on six main characters. In this film, it is difficult to pinpoint a specific protagonist but there are multiple protagonists. The characters in this film pass along the same crossroads and from one path to another it has an influence on the individual. The scenes are connected by loss of family and dysfunctional families, father and son and mother and daughter.
Furthermore, we see in the film that father and son, mother and daughter, are not necessarily next of kin. For example of mother and daughter, Ayten becomes Susanne’s daughter and Susanne begins to love her as she loved her own daughter, on the other hand Ayten has previously lost her mother so Susanne substitutes. Too in the film the return to the birthplace is seen, the first time, Yeter’s corpse is brought back from Germany, and later,

The three interlocking stories take place in the same city yet the characters do not share the same social class. Moreover, the stories become intertwined by the accident, violence, and betrayal. How the boys fight the dogs mirrors violence, the dog fights begin to dehumanize the humans and they become just as violence as the dogs, the violence in Ramiro and his wife’s relationship, and as well as Valeria and Daniel’s verbally violent relationship. Then there is gun violence with El Chivo, he is a hitman, and he gives the gun to the two partners. Octavio betray his brother by trying to get his wife, Daniel betray his marriage, the two partners betray each other and El Chivo betrays his daughter as a child. The scenes are connected through the violence and betrayal because all the characters suffer from these elements, then the scenes become one by the accident scene. The ending result for, if not all, then most—of the characters ends,
Despite the fact that Antonio is only a newborn, the two sides of the family have already predetermined his path in life. His mother, Maria, wants Antonio to become a priest while his father, Gabriel, would rather him be free and follow in his example. Both parents want to instill their own aspirations upon him and partake in a mentalgame of tug of war with Antonio, the youngest and last son of the family, the final chance to make one of his parent’s dreams a reality. At a young age, Antonio is forced to come to a consensus of which parent will he please and which one will he forsake. This fact lingers over him and often resurfaces within his dreams. Though he doesn’t yet have to reach a decision, this dream acts as a cautionary reminder that he will have to soon in the future as it slowly approaches.
Lévi-Strauss discusses kinship, which in todays society is still very clear and important. Firstly when anthropologists discuss kinship “they are concerned with social behaviours and not biological facts and the two sets of data are often so widely discrepant that it is often convenient to discuss kinship without any reference to biology” (Leach, 1973: 96). We have to break down kinship terms into individual systems in order to see what relationship they have. Even though it states that kinship does not have to do with biology there has to be link as it is obvious that a child is related to their mother just like she is to her sister. Lévi-Strauss is interested in in the ‘systems’ and not as much with terms of kinship. He looks at the ties by which people are related, rather this be through siblingship and/or affinal relationships. In society in order for a child to be seen as a ‘legitimate child’ they need to have two parents who are married. Society does not judge this opinion on the relationship between the child and his/her parents but on the relationship between the parents themselves. This extremity has faded into the background for the most part in the contemporary society but is still around in some cases as everyone is always interested in your family dynamic. The way in which people are related is still of great importance. Lévi-Strauss does not look at the basic relationships for example mother/daughter and husband/wife, but he looks at the more complicated types of relationships such as the contrast between father/son and mother’s brother/sister’s son. According to Lévi-Strauss “in order for a kinship structure to exist three types of family relations must always be present: a relation of consanguinity, a relation of affinity and a relation of descent.” (Leach, 1973: 101). Through Lévi-Strauss’ explanation of

In his first novel, the story takes place in an under privileged and impoverished neighborhood of East Harlem New York. The main character, Julio Mercado who is called by his nickname “chino” is an Ecuadorian/Puerto Rican husband and father to be who is working part time at a local grocery store while attending community college. He dreams of somehow making something of himself, owning a home and escaping the grasp of the neighborhood and hardships associated with it. Throughout the novel Chino struggles with where his loyalty should lie, with his wife and unborn child or with the streets he had grown up in and his friend “Sapo” who was his friend since childhood. He in some way feels guilty about dreaming of getting out of El Barrio and making a better life for himself and his family because everything he loved and learned in his life came from there. His best friend Sapo who he loved and respected was a high school dropout who turned out to be a drug dealing street hustler who aligned himself with who Chino referred to as the slumlord of the neighborhood, Willie Bodega. Sapo introduces Chino to Bodega, who has a love interest in Chino’s wife Blanca’s Aunt Vera. He wonders if he could upgrade his lifestyle
1 & 2) The chorus arrives and gives us a concise version of the play we are about to read. The story commences in the Italian streets of Verona, where two upper class families have been feuding for as long as anyone remembers. The prologue indicates that further in the plot the two children of these contending families will eventually fall in love, however, to avoid bringing dishonor to their families, our forlorn lovers take their own lives, to finally bring an end to the everlasting feud between their rivaling families.
Ultima , Antonio , and Tenorio all are independent people who turned their life around by making the right decision and getting away from the people that had a bad influence on them. The simple fact that decision making can turn your life around is amazing because it shows if one decision can turn your life around one decision can also destroy it. Antonio was the hardest person to change because he had to get over cool guy act before he could be independent , it took him a very long time , but he got it done and that’s all that matter. Ultima positive influence rubbed off on Antonio and Tenorio , there right and smart decision making help them turn their life around in a positive way. The overall message of the novel was the moral of independence and all the characters went through a wild journey to find out what it means , some journeys were harder than others some were easier , but the most important thing is that it got done. After reading this novel i make sure that i make the best possible decision that will help me at the time. I really connected to this novel because i had the same problem when i was younger , that why i was always in trouble. As i grew into a young man i started to figure it out and ever since that my life have been easier because i know how to make the right decisions for myself. Rudolfo Anaya point came clear with this novel , His message to everyone about how much decision making can affect your life also came clear with this novel. He uses a lot of words that give you a visual of what he explaining , you can see it if you close your eyes - i
The Afterlife in Song of Solomon Throughout Song of Solomon, we hear over and over again about black men that fly in the air. They get tired of their cooped, sad up life in America and they just fly right back home to Africa. Historically, there have been rumors, legends, and songs of this exact thing, but in reality we know that people can not fly in this way. No, not even Pilate, Macon, Solomon, Milkman, or Mr. Smith can literally fly in the air.
In The Angel of Death with the Proud King and the Devout Man in Arabian Nights, Shahrazad is trying to convey the importance of faith and faithfulness to the king. In the past, he has always overlooked the importance of religion and faith, and how it can affect the choices he makes. Shahrazad conveys this when she tells the king the story of The Angel of Death with the Proud King and the Devout Man. In this story, when the proud king, who does not consider himself a devout man, is chosen by the Angel of Death, he asks for some time to take leave of his children, family, and people. This conveys that he does not put his faith first and that this will eventually have a negative impact on his outcome in life. The second time the Angel of Death
Undoubtedly, one of the greatest masterpiece ever made, The Seventh Seal, Ingmar Bergman’s finest analogy about the human condition, seems quiet timeless and deeply familiar with the world that it takes place in. Set during the Middle Ages during the Black Death (plague) era, The Seventh Seal begins with a narrator’s voice that reads from the Book of Revelations from the bible: “And when the Lamb opened the seventh seal, there was silence in heaven about the space of half an hour.” The said silence in heaven or rather the silence of God in the world is Bergman’s major theme, along with death. This film sets a high level of ambition by using a theme that is mainly universal, which is the quest for the meaning of life.
What began as a story of alligators, a washed-out bridge and unrequited love turned into a tale with explicit sexual and violent content. Not one of the five characters showed any redeeming behavior in the end. Each characters values and attitude were revealed in the story.

Edge of Heaven is full of subtle missed encounters that would be entirely lost if not for the mis-en-scène, cinematography, and editing. Much of the movie happens outside of chronological order, which immediately gives the viewer the sense that maybe even the characters feel out-of-place or lost in their world. One of the best examples of this combination of missed connections and feeling lost is the scene where Ayten is driving in a car into Germany and passes directly below her mother, Yeter, who is riding on an elevated train. Earlier in the movie, there was a scene of Yeter being harassed on the same train because she is Turkish, so the audience already understands that the train is a potentially dangerous and hostile place for Yeter, which is the opposite for Ayten, who is driving
The memorable novel Romeo and Juliet, authored by the brilliancy of William Shakespeare clashes with the theatrical film West Side Story, written by Arthur Laurents . When the two films compare it’s evident that both share a variety of similarities. To the extent of storylines, characters and importantly themes. The main themes that interacts between the two worlds are Love and Conflict which is illustrated amongst that characters as they mature along the story. As the game comes to a conclusion, the player is asked to make one more moral decision. Niko has the option of either working with Dimitri Rascalov, a man who sold him out to a Russian crime lord, or killing Dimitri. If Niko works with Dimitri, he tries to kill Niko at Roman’s wedding, and accidentally kills Roman. If Niko takes revenge on Dimitri and kills him, Niko’s business partner kills Roman’s wife for thwarting his plan. Whichever path the player takes, the game concludes with Niko killing the man who killed his loved one. Although both endings are very tragic, they are representative of the huge sacrifices immigrants face and the price they must pay to achieve the American dream.
