In the movies, Superman Man of Steel and Wonder Woman, Clark Kent and Diana Prince have to maintain a front of a “normal” life whilst hiding their true selves at some point throughout the films. They both have superhuman powers and are destined to be great heroes; however, at the start of both movies, they are not aware of their powers. Both Kent and Diana experience isolated origin stories. For Kent, it proved to be difficult as he was growing up realizing who and what he really was. Kent’s “Earth parents” (snyder 2013) found him and raised him as their own, by the name of Clark. Kent is sent to Earth by his birth mother and father: Jor-El and Lara after his home planet, Krypton, is incinerated. Kent was sent to protect Earth's fate and …show more content…
They are proud of who and where they have come from where as Kent has to hide how amazing he really is to ‘fit in’ on the planet that he was sent to by his birth parents. When he finds out his true identity he is clearly confused and doesn’t want the pressure that comes with him being the world's savior. Wonder woman's mindset is completely different she is proud of who she is and knows about it from a young age. She is surrounded by strong women and sees it as being normal to be super. This helps her make the decision to go with Steve Trevor after she rescues the American pilot Captain when his plane crashes off the Themysciran coast. Steve tells the women of a War that is troubling the outside world. Lois goes back to England with Steve to help them in World War 2. I believe that because Lois grew up knowing not to hide her powers and that she is strong helped her have the confidence to go and help save the world. Whereas superman, after not knowing who he really is for so long, is being told that he is the answer the end of the world would be a shock. Leading to thought like “i can't do it” and “why me.” (snyder 2013). When Kent is young it is clear that he doesn't want the responsibility, he has got used to a …show more content…
Superman has to learn to trust humans, as he grown up he gets comfortable with the human race and even though he is not from this planet he wants to save humans all around the world. Kent flees home after the grief of his father's passing, he leaves home looking for work and hopefully to find answers. Wherever he seems to go he always found himself having to move on as he used his powers. Starting at an oil rig that Kent was working at going up in flames, Kent saves all the workers. He then has to move onto another city as he was spotted saving the rig. He doesn't trust what they will do to if they find out what he can do and where he has come from. Several months later, Metropolis, Daily Planet reporter Lois Lane receives an assignment to investigate the discovery of a Kryptonian scout ship in the Canadian Arctic. Disguised as a worker, Kent enters the ship and activates its central computer using a key left by his birth father which was found in with Kent. This allows him to communicate with an artificial intelligence modeled after his father. The ship explains that Kent was sent to Earth to guide its people, and presents him with a Kryptonian uniform bearing his family's symbol. Lois accidentally triggers the ship's security system, while she is following Kent. He uses his powers to rescue Lois before wearing the uniform and testing his flying abilities. Unable to

He fears that she would, as Boas states, feel “intense displeasure ” (607) were she to know his true identity. For Clark Kent, truly, “the teachings of earlier childhood remain…the truth which is never doubted (Boas 609). Ultimately, his love for Lois Lane forces Superman/Clark Kent to choose which life to live. Deciding to live life as a mortal with Lois Lane, he must give up his powers. Unknown to the pair, at the same time a trio of evil Kryptonians, all possessing the same powers as Superman, have begun to enslave all of mankind. Upon hearing this, the powerless Clark Kent decides that he must set aside his own feelings, and even the feelings of Lois Lane, in order to act for the benefit of the majority. He acts against the desires of Clark Kent, and therefore the culture of his Earth upbringing, and instead acts according to the responsibilities of a hero, therefore embracing the culture of his Kryptonian parents. Clark Kent undergoes a rebirth as he succeeds in regaining his powers, becoming Superman once again. Empowered with the strength and determination to defeat his opponents, Superman conquers the evil Kryptonians and returns peace to the world
Superman is represented as a symbol of strength and courage, representing the heroic act of destroying barriers and overcoming adversity.
Batman and Superman are poles apart, but, when it comes to certain aspects of their lives, they can be found to be similar. Both Batman and Superman are extremely popular comic book superheroes who have had multiple television shows and movies made about them. Batman and Superman show up at similar times in the comic book world and are published in the same comic book brand: DC Comics. Moreover, they both have superhero costumes and despite the color themes, the costumes follow the pattern of having their logo on their chest followed with a cape in the back. They are also alike in terms of their secret identities. Batman is actually Bruce Wayne and Superman is actually Clark Kent and they both live normal lives when they are not out saving them. Both of these characters have childhoods where both men did not know their parents very well because their parents died when they were young, making both of them orphans. When they start
Saying “Superman” instead of a more generic “superhero” made the story seem real and relevant to this word instead of just a piece of fiction with little connection to readers.
Batman sees the destruction of Superman and Zod who happened to have the same powers as Superman because they were from the same planet, Krypton. Then Superman acknowledges that Batman has a brutal kind of justice and wants to get him through his work at the news network, Daily Planet. I also found connections to their progressions in the film. Bruce starts off wanting to kill Clark, and along the way he finds Wonder Woman, according to the end of the movie, Bruce realizes that Superman is good for humanity because he sacrificed his life by killing the mutant. In turn, Superman comes to Batman’s aid because he saved his mother from Lex Luther. Both characters have arisen to be friends, and understand that they both need each other. Extra elements from the journey is the fact that the object that was almost used to kill Clark by Bruce’s hand is the object found by Lois to destroy the mutant and sadly Superman. Through this scene we recognize that there are two katabasis’, one is the fight scene where Superman is almost killed by the bat, and the other is when they both fight the mutant together.
And as another symbol, superheroes are often depicted of as secret identities of people who try to act normal and yet conceal great power to help others, like for instance Clark Kent and Superman. Thus seeing the protagonist's obsession with superheroes and his fantasies of exacting justice upon the bully implies that he too wishes he were like that, that he could use that power stand up and not be afraid. His superhero persona also has a star-shaped mouth hole evocative of Captain America, who has stars proudly portrayed all over his outfit that symbolizes truth, justice, and freedom.
Throughout Clark’s whole childhood his dad, Jonathan, tells him that he can’t use his powers because humanity would see him as an outcast out of fear. As Clark was growing up he was slowly becoming more and more anxious to use his powers. Well one day he got his wish and a tornado came stampeding through the highway him and his parents were driving on. Everyone on the highway started to panic and were running to the underpass for cover. Clark took his mom to the underpass but Jonathan was still trying to grab the family dog. He got stuck at his car with a twisted ankle with the tornado dangerously close to him. Clark looked at Jonathan knowing the only way he was gonna save him was if he used his powers. But Jonathan held out his hand signifying no to Clark, that he should not use his powers because then the world would know his secret. With a quick scoop the tornado hurled around Jonathan and he was gone. Superman conformed to his father and let him die so that he would not be exposed of his
Since the creation of “The Invincible Superman”in 1938 he still remains to be one of the best and most well-known heroes.“Telling their sorrow, telling stories /Of their dead King and his greatness, his glory” (831-834).Beowulf has died, showing how he is mortal and able to die. Superman is not, he is invincible--indestructible from any and everything. Another huge difference between the two heroes is Beowulf is a human from earth. While Superman is inhuman and was exiled from the planet Krypton. After the battle with Grendel Beowulf must swim to the bottom of a murky lake to take the life of the one who took his men’s lives, Grendel’s Mother. Similarly, Superman must travel to other planets and other galaxies to help those in need of him. As a child, Superman is sent away from the planet of Krypton, to the town of Smallville,Kansas where he then realizes all his supernatural powers. Superman defends Metropolis against disaster but also flies into outer space to fight off Brainiac and save a city from his own planet. Many times, he makes the trip to other universes to help those in distress. This is a resemblance of how both men are able to use their remarkable abilities to better the lives of
He even has a disguise for himself so he can live a normal human life just like everyone else and not be noticed or recognized. Superman is also Clark Kent, a normal person just trying to live life who works at the Daily Planet. Superman has no fear and will never back down from evil.
During the 1920’s and 1930’s many families immigrating to America were enduring strong abhorrence towards them because of their religion, beliefs, and where they were from. Two of these people experiencing hardship were the creators of Superman, Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster, whose Jewish parents had immigrated to America before having them. Siegel and Shuster wanted to create a superhero to give immigrants entering the United States a kind of hope since many Americans did not want them there. During this time the Great Depression was going on as well, and many immigrants got bullied because of the fact that they were unwanted in America. Today, superheroes are mainly used to entertain us, so it makes sense that many people do not seem to understand
(3) simply for politely asking to use the restroom. Furthermore, Superman helped assist immigrants and provide them with the resilience and boldness to stand up for themselves and what they believe in. People could not do this before because they felt they were too weak, but, because of Superman, they finally had the confidence to do what they had always wanted to. Superman himself was a minority since he was the only one of his kind left, and he was always surrounded by many normal human beings. Even though he was that much of a minority, he never lost strength
