On the other hand, proponents also provide valid arguments for their case as well. Primarily this is done out of sheer compassion for an animal, watching suffering and dying penguin is not a pleasant picture. Their argument is that it is our moral responsibility to do so because this all due to human activity (Tran et al., 2014). Climate change is already causing their population numbers to decline by massive scale (Trivelpiece et al., 2011). The effects of mortalities due to oil spills are unacceptable. If we have the ability to alleviate their suffering, we do should so. The conservation effort is worth the economic cost as many recent cases of rehabilitation have suggested if done right birds are able to live normal longer lives. For
There have been purchases of lands that are becoming protected for habitat space, as well as the large scale recoveries of forests that were devastated and ravaged due to over logging. The recovery of our forests will allow for an increase in the population of prey for these panthers and allow a flourishing ecosystem to help them. Public opinion has also changed. From being scared of them and killing them, people are now aware of the potential that this species could go extinct and have made efforts towards wildlife conservation and more legal protection that is backed by the Endangered Species Act. Furthermore, The Florida Panther Recovery Team has continued to work hard in preservation efforts as well as being able to now correctly assess habitats that are safe and productive for the Florida Panther to once again grow in. Unfortunately, only about 11% of reintroductions end in the species successfully recreating and increasing in numbers. Increases in technology is also however helping this team accurately track and study the patterns of the Panther in hopes of being able to find ways in to increase the odds of the species surviving once it is reintroduced into an
Lost species affect the environment negatively and can disrupt ecosystems. Since the 1940s, many conservation efforts have been successful in helping the whooping crane population increase. By failing to ensure that whooping crane habitats have enough food in their winter habitat, the positive effects of conservation have been set back. The State of Texas breached the Migratory Bird Treaty and is liable for the deaths of whooping cranes. Given the outcome of the lawsuit, this situation could happen again in the future. As Canadian citizens, it’s extremely difficult to impact foreign legal decisions, but we can lobby our own government and legislators to encourage more participation in future international issues like this. We can also work with environmental organizations to work towards common goals for the benefit of the environment. We know that habitats must be properly protected and maintained by all parties involved to help not only the whooping crane, but other species as well, recover their population and thrive. Even just on our own as concerned citizens, we can raise awareness about the whooping crane. Although it might not seem like much, the effort that citizens put in can make a huge difference in the health of our endangered
Conservation of our biodiversity not only demonstrates foresight, it protects the natural resources so vital to our own continued existence. The value of any single species to an ecosystem is immeasurable; the environment will not endure without its species, despite size or niche. These animals are not dispensable. And, they are apt to face extinction in the not too distant future, unless a resolve for their preservation is insisted by the public and enforced by governments internationally.
I can understand why 52.3 million Americans or 39% of us spend money on feeding birds. They’re great company and even pay us back by taking care of pesky insects. Usually when someone starts feeding birds they continue for life and includes people living in small towns, and rural areas as well as big cities. Cornell Lab of Ornithology lists feeding wild birds as one of the fastest growing hobbies. People feeding birds also get involved in other conservation activities and it’s a wonderful way to introduce children to nature.
Mr Campbell Newman was a popular lord mayor as a member of the Liberal Party, who served the Queensland government for three years from 2012 – 2015 (Lewis, 2015). In the recent 2015 Queensland state election, Newman was heavily punished by the public voters of Queensland as a result of treating the public servants unfairly by cutting jobs in contrast to his promises. He also claimed that there would be no forced redundancies and that he would try to lower the unemployment rate, yet these promises were never met. In support of this, the following essay argues that Campbell Newman didn’t interfere with the free market economy of Queensland, which can be beneficial for consumers in many ways because there is no government intervention. Instead,
The audience is left horrified by such glaring numbers, and now understands why there needs to be more enforcement - to eliminate the many deaths of our precious birds. By citing evidence, the author is able to establish that his concerns are true, strengthening his line of argumentation in the
There are steps being taken to help in the survival of this owl specific species. Even though that is so the outlook of this bird does not seem promising. The lifespan of the Madagascar red owl is already unknow. Yet, the Apache people believe seeing this great bird in their dreams means their end and lifespan is about to come to an
Good evening Tinel, good jog responding to this week discussion topic. I agree with your response. The Fourth admendent protects the public from law enforcement officials against unlawful search and seizure. As you stated in your response, the only way this law can be exempt is if the evidence is in plain view. If Law enforcement officials have probable cause which including evidence being in plain view, they are authorize by their policy/procedures to stop anyone, search and seize whatever contraband they have within their possession. The Fourth Admendent does not apply if the officer have probable cause for seaching someone and seizing whatever unauthorize item they have within their possession.
The species is recorded as fundamentally jeopardized and perhaps wiped out by the Universal Union for Preservation of Nature. The American Birding Affiliation (ABA) records the ivory-charged woodpecker
Severely restricted inside the barren cages, the birds are unable to engage in nearly any of their natural habits, including nesting, perching, walking, dust bathing, foraging, or even spreading their wings” (HSUS, 2009).
Harm can be understood by many individuals in a multitude of ways; however, one theory that would not agree with Donald Trump’s claim concerning the American Flag would be Mill’s “Harm Principle,” as the only harm that constitutes regulation is physical harm when it concerns our rights. Mill states that limitations cannot be placed on one’s freedom of liberty if no injury is created thus (Mill, “On Liberty” 71-75). Being offended by the burning of an American Flag, for example, would not require any form of regulation of this symbolic, since it does not cause physical injury. Mill also supports the acceptance of this symbolic speech, as a form of maximizing social utility and happiness, while lowering government coercion/control. In addition, Feinberg expands upon this utilitarian ideal to include the other forms of harm that fall within the extent of our rights, where he scrutinizes various instances of emotional/psychological harm (e.g., embarrassment, disgust, fear) to make the individual question if the harm
Case of opponents of rehabilitation is based very little and outdated evidence; for example, A researcher, Brain Sharp in 1996 analysed rehabilitation reports from 1964-1994 and concluded that “The cost and effectiveness of rehabilitation efforts for oiled seabirds need to be reexamined in the light of results showing low post-release survival”. Moreover, much has changed over time, organizations have learned from their previous experiences are able to provide a better care for animals and more recent studies e.g. Goldsworthy et al., 2000, and Chilvers et al., 2015, suggests that improvements in rehabilitation techniques have increased the chances post de-oiling survival. De-oiling procedures of birds have evolved and are becoming more sophisticated.
If a leader took initiative to show others the seriousness of global warming, we could save animals lives. The penguins from the book Our Iceberg is Melting, had a mixture of emotions while dealing with change. Some embraced the change of moving icebergs while others tried to convince the others moving was a bad idea. The penguins embraced change by having Fred discover their iceberg was in danger. He then told Alice, who is a penguin with higher authority and they formed a bigger team of penguins. “None of those with whom Alice spoke showed any enthusiasm about the idea of swimming into a big dark cave” (Our Iceberg pg 20). The team of penguins brought the idea of changing icebergs to the colonies attention and had their scouts search for a new home. After searching, the scouts found a new iceberg which was safer for the penguins and in the end, most of the penguins adapted to their new home and made new traditions. The move was a success and some of the penguins who were originally against the change are happier with the new iceberg.
In order for us to help the wildlife during global warming we need to decrease the amount of pollution we put in the air. We can do this by reducing the amount of energy we use and how many times we use our vehicles in a day. We could also stop littering and start recycling. Land development is also a cause. All of these ways can lead to deterioration of certain species’ habitats. This is a serious problem and i want to persuade and and inform you what we can do to stop it and how it is affecting everyday life lives all the way to to the littlest things to the biggest thing. Global warming is growing at a faster and faster rate. Society thinks global warming is not a big deal and is okay with it. Nobody should be okay with this. Global warming is a horrible way of how we treat yourself, our planet, and the animals.
“(i) Assisting in achieving the conservation and survival of species must be the aim of all members of the profession. Any actions taken in relation to an individual animal, e.g. euthanasia or
