Consumer Profile Segments in the Spokane Metropolitan Area Cameron Hashagen Jacob Scott Brittney Wold Eastern Washington University The city of Spokane is located on the eastern side of Washington State about 20 miles from the Washington-Idaho border. It is one of the only major cities in the inland northwest, the closest being Boise, Idaho. The area surrounding the city would be considered rural farming land. In the 2010 United States Census it was determined that Spokane had a population of 208,916 residents. The population estimate for 2013 is 210,721 (US Census, 2010). As compared to the rest of the state, Spokane has a significantly lower median household income, $42,274 as compared to $59,374 which is the state’s median income. In addition to having a lower household income, this area also has a high percentage of people who live below the poverty line, 18.7 percent of Spokane residents (US Census, 2010). The majority of Spokane residents identify themselves as white at 89.2 percent, followed by those who identify as two or more races at 3.8 percent (Pitts, Tyga, 2010). In the Spokane area, 67.7 percent of the population are homeowners, and the other 32.3 percent are renters. This makes the Spokane area an ideal place to target consumers looking for an affordable apartment to rent. Profile One Profile one is primarily young to middle aged adults having no kids. The state of Hawaii has approximately 8,000 homeless people as of 2016. Have you ever imagined yourself being in that position? Homelessness is a serious problem in Hawaii since we have the highest rate in the nation per capita of homeless. In order for our economy to be fixed, specifically Downtown Honolulu, land, time, space, and especially money are things state officials should consider because rather money being put to Ala Moana, Honolulu Rail Transit, and the new International Market Place, it should be used towards homeless.
The Gap Inc. is a global specialty retailer that operates stores selling casual apparel and accessories for men, women, and children (Yahoo Market Guide, 2001). Under the Gap, are the Old Navy and Banana Republic brands (Yahoo Market Guide, 2001).
First, government provides housing assistance to low-income families. Low-income families just need pay 30% of their total income for rent. Second, mainstream programs provide a safety net for homelessness. This net makes mainstream programs like housing assistance, welfare, and substance support could provide what homelessness need quickly. Third, Communities created a data system to record information about homelessness. These information could be analyzed to help people know the cause of people become homeless, how long people become homeless, what exactly homeless people need, and the effect of mainstream’s support. Government already saw some positive influence of these programs. The number of family homelessness decreased 43 percent in Hennepin Country. New York creased 11 percent of homeless families was placed by a permanent housing. (National Alliance to End Homelessness, 2010)
One of the causes of homelessness in Baltimore City is lack of affordable housing, this includes subsidized housing from the state. Lack of affordable housing in Baltimore City is due to an increase luxury housing and Baltimore’s decrease desire for rental housing (Mayor’s Office of Human Services, 2013). Available housing is not proportional to the wages of people living in Baltimore City. Nearly half of renters in Baltimore spend 35% of their income or more on their rent. The waiting list for Baltimore City opened in 2014 and 74,000 households applied for 25,000 available slots for up to six years to own a voucher (“Homelessness in Baltimore,” 2017). For the extremely poor population there are only 42 available homes for over 100 people who identify with the population (Public Justice Center, 2015). Therefore, Baltimore needs to make affordable housing for their population or there should be an increase in jobs and wages. However, the private sector is not interested in developing houses for the low-income population because it is not profitable compared to selling a building to a company to make luxury housing (Richman, 2015).
I agree with your post. Perception is highly important when determining if products are worthy of purchasing. We want to know if the product has a wow factor and appeals to our tastes, likes, and ability to get the job done with minimal effort and time. Furthermore, how we perceive value such as image, prestige of the company and product, will we be satisfied with our purchase, and whether the product is safe and reliable play a major role in deciding upon if a product meets our expectations and needs.
Today, Homelessness in the US is becoming one of the top challenging issues to fix. Recent available data shows an increase the number of the homeless between 2014 and 2015. On a single night in January 2014, 578,424 people were experiencing Homelessness — meaning they were sleeping outside or in an emergency shelter or transitional housing program. From 2014 to 2015, a period of ongoing recovery from the Great Recession, overall homelessness decreased by 2.3 percent and Homelessness decreased among every major subpopulation: unsheltered persons (10 percent), families (2.7 percent), chronically Homeless individuals (2.5 percent), and veterans (10.5 percent). Yet a recent report by the Department of Housing and Urban Development, says homelessness decreased by nearly 4% over the past year.. The reports shows:
According to the Census Bureau 25.6 percent of White Center residence live in poverty, which is greater than the national average. A leading cause of poverty is not having access to higher education. I believe this is a problem because children are the ones affected most by poverty. According to the Census Bureau, 42.4 percent of children in White Center under the age of 5 and 49% of 16 to 17 year olds live in poverty. The families that face the most poverty are single female households with no husband present, at 51.3 percent. Unemployment is a leading cause of poverty. The unemployment rate at White Center, WA 26% higher than the national average. I believe this is a problem that needs to be addressed because housing prices in the Seattle
60 residents were selected from a pool of homeless individuals. Residents will be compared to a control group of homeless individuals in Denver to analyze the impact of supportive housing on homelessness.
Homelessness in Seattle has proven to be a tremendous issue. Fighting for years, Seattle has not been able to make any significant improvements when it comes to homelessness. Although eliminating homelessness may seem to have a simple solution, more housing, the causes of homelessness determine how difficult eliminating it will be. Seattle’s homelessness stems from many complex issues that can be traced back many years. One of the most significant causes of homelessness in Seattle is cuts in funding towards low-income housing combined with raised rent prices in both previously affordable housing and housing geared towards the affluent.
Rent in the Washington metropolitan area is rising faster than income, especially for lower-income and working-class renters living in the District of Columbia where rent has become unbearable. Rent has increased, but a lot of renters' ability to pay has not. Majority of the residents in our society are in need of affordable housing. There has been a drastic growth in number of households, having housing affordability problems in our community. According to evidences from Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments 2015 Reports, homelessness has erupted tremendously in our communities. The District of Columbia has about 63 percent as it homeless population, which is the largest amount homeless population in the region. Frederick County, Maryland experienced a 26 percent increase, while Montgomery County experienced a 23 percent increase in it homeless population compared to their homeless population of 2014.This increase occurred primarily due to an increase in homeless families. Statistics confirm that the homelessness trend is rising. To the people who are associated with the homeless environment, I strongly believe that everyone deserve to have a place to call home. My home is my source of happiness, I am truly grateful to have a place to call home, at least for the time being. An individual in any county should have access to a standard form of shelter that

In today's society, we are faced with many problems. One of the biggest problems that we are facing, specifically in Seattle, is homelessness. Housing is one of the most important basic needs for a human being, but due to certain circumstances, some people are unfortunate enough to end up living on the streets. The government should build more homeless shelters in Seattle, and lower the cost of rent.
Our policy issue in this paper concerned the homeless in Baltimore city. The research also emphasizes the issue of concentrated housing prices, lower-income people, which research indicates has a deleterious impact on the life of numerous people. Homelessness is a public issue that should be addressed because it raises many negative than positive implications and it is a current issue that has never been resolved. Today, the percentage of numerous homeless people have grown (increases). As a result of that , there are 3000 people qualified as homeless and many causes of Homelessness such as the lacking of affordable houses, lack of financial support, unemployment, lack of social support, low-incomes, and residential instability, poverty, mental illness, domestic violence. According to the Department of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) defined homelessness as individuals who lack a accommodate housing or a stay (Sheila Dixon, Mayor 2008). The homeless people are the one who suffers here to get a shelter or aid (Sheila Dixon, Mayor 2008). As a result of that homeless is considered as a choice of individuals. Our choices can lead us to the right or wrong paths.

For Subway Sandwiches, the global leader in franchised subway sandwich shops, the segmentation criterion that affects target market selection varies significantly within each community, city and metropolitan area chosen for expansion. At their most fundamental level, segmentation strategies at Subway are based on a broad base of assumptions with regard to socio-economic and demographic factors including age, income, mix of genders in a given region, ethnic composition of a community, vehicle ownership versus mass transit use, and media habit including social media use. All of these factors are included in the foundational elements of the Subway Sandwich market planning, marketing strategy and store planning. Additional factors that segmentation strategies are often based on are discussed in this analysis.
