Introduction The educational challenges endured by the Ukrainian government and its citizens is a suitable option for the final comparison paper. Ukraine shares a longstanding history with Russia having only attained independence in 1991, and the government aimed to cultivate a relationship with Western Europe, particularly the European Union (EU). Discouragingly, twenty six years after independence Ukraine wrestles with a depleted economy inherited from former and first President Leonid Kravchuk. Leonid Kuchma, the country’s second president, only fared slightly better than his predecessor, but he soon faltered. Kuchma was accused by the opposition of immoderately conceding to Russian economic interests (BBC News 2016). One …show more content…
(The Atlantic 2014). Above all, it will be interesting to dissect how this affects education policies. In spite of pressure from Russia, in 2014 Ukrainian policymakers passed a legislation that empowered universities with more autonomy with their curriculum, finances, and hiring practices. Before its passage, the government was overly involved in the design and implementation of education programs, which inhibited faculty research endeavors (Freedom House 2016). Economic challenges have negatively impacted enrollment and retention rates among primary and secondary schools. Socioeconomic disparities are also correlated to high dropout rates and low post secondary enrollment. Conjointly, the country’s minority population are perhaps at the greatest disadvantage as many only exhibit a rudimentary grasp of the Ukrainian language, insufficient to pass state exams. At Hungarian majority schools, up to 75 % of students fail their end of year exams (Freedom House 2017).
The Electoral System Ukraine’s next presidential and parliamentary election is scheduled for 2019. A mixed election system is utilized to elect the 450 legislative seats. Half of the members of parliament are elected through first past the post voting (FPTP) with a 5% threshold from single member districts, and the other 225 are selected from a closed list through proportional representation. In order for a party to be successful, they must acquire
Many people know that the U.S. does not rank very high in education. You hear about how they are always trying to improve education, but they still fall short of where they strive to be. In Anu Partanen’s “Finland’s School Success, What Americans Keep Ignoring” she addresses this issue. She points out what Americans are doing wrong, what Finland is doing right, and how the U.S. can improve the education system in many ways.
The education system in America has a long history of struggle and change, as we have grown as a nation we have experienced an ever-increasing rise in diversity. In this essay I will assess the outcomes of Additional Member system, First Past the Post system and the Closed Party List system. The F-P-T-P system is used to elect the members of House of Commons and local government in England and Wales. Voters select candidates, and do so by marking his or her name with an ‘X’ on the ballot paper. This reflects the principle of ‘one person, one vote’. The Additional Members system is used in Scottish parliament, Welsh assembly, and Northern Ireland Assembly and Greater London assembly. It is a mixed system made up of F-P-T-P and party-list elements. The Regional party list (or the closed party list) is used to elect the
Is there corruption in your government? I am going to argue that the United States government is corrupt.
Power and corruption seem to be words that most people would say go hand in hand. Why is this, though? Does power lead to corruption or is there some other correlation? Maybe it is powerlessness that actually brings corruption. Everyone to some extent is powerless; even the highest leaders are not absolute. Power is at all times up to question, as anyone could lose it with just a few events. Also the only way to be absolute in power would be complete world domination, which no one person has ever possessed. Thus everyone is somewhat powerless and it is this quality that brings people to corruption as they search for ultimate power.
In the American version of a democratic system, a handful of extremely wealthy individuals and large corporations control the political system. By "funding" or bribing the candidates, they directly influence the election and nominations of presidents, governors, senators and congress members. The money is used for campaign staff, door to door voting operations, and television advertising. The continued influence of the wealthy violates the basic principle of democratic political equality. This cynical political campaign has become part of the democratic system that the politicians are not even required to justify their action. Even though a truly democratic system is too perfect to exist, a corrupted political system destroys the hope for a system that has the public's interest in mind.
In order to prevent governmental corruption and ensure empathetic representation of the common American population, we propose that those elected into any federal government office should live on the yearly income of the average American with an advanced degree.
The Party of Regions are a pro-Russian political party, that hold power in the Donbass and Crimea regions. They, combined with their Russian and communist allies won 45% of the vote in parliament in 2014. (Kuzio 2) The Party of Regions gets its support from Russian sources; though it is not admitted to the public. These relations with Russia have shaped the party to soviet values.
In the United States of America, a large portion of our political beliefs center around a balanced government, where no one group has complete control over the government. Where no man can change the whole of America with a swipe of a pen. But, even America, the Land of the Free, is not free from political corruption. For our government, beautiful as it may seem, hides away the evils that plague our political system. Is political corruption in the U.S.A real? Or is it simply something to laugh at on Snopes? Today, we will go over the evidence, and I think you’ll find that there is political corruption in the U.S.A.
Challenge in the education system today raise concern as to the effectiveness and fairness associated with diverse cultures that compose our school systems today than 30 years ago. Students in our education system are from affluent families and those from below poverty line with limited resources, and those whom are non-English speaking to families whom are of native speaking decedents. Further, in this dilemma some areas have a level of favoritism or zabernism to student performance of personal acquaintances of family members. The percentage of graduates that continue on to college is low in rural communities. Some of these education systems are close to being taken over by the state

The Founders avoided the corruption in the government well, I feel as if they had a very good understanding of human nature. They wanted to make sure the every human was in control and had a say in how they wanted to be governed, The founders belief in "government by the consent of the governed". The reason for a checks and balances system to not have a government just make all the decisions and lead to corruption. The constitution as well is one of the main reason why i believe the founders had a good balance. We had the right to have a say in things and a vote for what we feel is right for us.The people in the position to make the laws couldn't just implement what they felt was right. it had to go through the citizens as well.
Reflecting on past education reform movements, particularly the Sputnik era education reform movement reveals several keys to successful reform. These keys include, but are not limited to, a shared political and economic goal, clear competitor, metaphor, timeline, symbol, and legislative support. The shared goal or contemporary vision of the Sputnik era education reform movement was framed around sending a man to the moon and returning him safely. This large, understandable, and goal specific challenge was spurred by the USSR’s launching of the Sputnik satellite (Bybee, 2013). While the contemporary Sputnik moment remains “poor levels of achievement on national and international assessments, these issues are not major events perpetrated by
