Cosmetology is the general work on others hair and skin. The area of cosmetology I am going for is hair. I find working on other people’s hair fun and interesting. Makeup and nails are other areas of interest for me. I am going to be studying cosmetology to become licensed as an entrepreneur for hair, makeup, and helping to make the lives of others better. It is important to understand the education or training requirements, skills or training, salary and benefits offered, and the duties for a particular career when making this decision.

​Every since I was a child I have had a passion for doing other people’s hair. When I was little I would use my baby dolls as clients and work on their hair until it was perfect and neat. I have chosen to be in the cosmetology field because I like to help other people with their needs and wants as well as mine. I am aware that while working in this industry I will work with many different ethnic groups and many different hair types. I feel I can do anything as long as I have the determination to do so. Many people go to cosmetology school to work for someone else, but I would like to open up a mini-salon out of my own home someday.

I have never attended college but always felt that I needed to do so to have something else other than my cosmetology license. My father went to college and has been the only person that has completed a degree. He was the one that basically told me that nothing can stop me. I always wanted to do something else in the medical field but never found the “right time” to do it. Doing my own research, I decided to go back to school and start at Valencia College which is one of the most affordable tuitions in florida. I started working on my basic courses required for a college degree. My plan is to keep going as far as I can with my degree. It was very hard to set my mind into school and being a full time mother of three kids and having a full time job. Although I cannot say that I have always known what I wanted to do with my life, I have always had a love and passion for hair, nails, makeup, and really anything to do with beauty. Between four sisters, friends, slumber parties, and formals, I have found my love for beauty and have obtained a large amount of practice. As a result of my experiences, my desire for cosmetology has brought me to Paul Mitchell the school. I have decided to attend Paul Mitchell because this school can help further my future education in cosmetology. I am confident that it is the perfect place for me, it will help me achieve my future goals and dreams, and I believe that I am a good student for this school.

My interest in cosmetology and hair began to develop when I was around ten years old. I have always been in love with hair and makeup, and when I was ten I was finally old enough my stepmother brought me to the shop for the first time, and from that day forward at ten years old, I knew that this was my dream. Although I knew I loved hair and makeup, I knew that I had grown up wanting to be a teacher. Being a teacher is what my grandmother did, what seemed like the perfect occupation to pursue, something to go to college for, and the more stable and reliable option.

When I turned 38-years-old I wanted to make a change in my life. I was tired of working jobs that had me living from paycheck to paycheck. The only option I saw was to return to school to get some sort of formal training. I did not want to spend years in college, so I decided to go to a trade school. After some research, I became intrigued with the field of cosmetology. I liked the possibility of someday going into business for myself. I went for an orientation at a local beauty school, and I was sold on being able to complete the program in a year. I was overjoyed thinking that I would be soon be putting all those dead end jobs behind me. I thought becoming a cosmetologist would be life changing, and it would be, but not the way I envisioned.

Growing up I always use to like doing my hair, as well as my mothers and sisters hair. I began to do my own hair for school at the age of nine. About six months before I graduated high school, I participated in a fundraiser to support breast cancer /scholarship contest at Aveda Institute, which is a cosmetology school. I saw many creative and talented students at the event, it was amazing! I assumed it was a sign, so as soon as I graduated high school I registered at Aveda. I truly believed that cosmetology was what I wanted to make a career out of, because I enjoy making people feel more confident about their physical appearance. However, attending the institute emphatically demonstrated a sneak preview of what life had in store for me.

Hairstylist is a job that will never have a dull moment. You learn something new every day. This is a career I would enjoy doing every day. You get to meet so many new people and help them with so many different things. Even though the money isn’t good, if you love the job, it’s a job for
